Friend ill - covid ? Wants a lift

JoanCandy · 23/06/2022 12:35

My DD and I are meant to be seeing two friends this evening to go to an open air event as part of my DD's birthday.
First of all, my friend kind of wangled a lift from me which takes DD and I out of our way but, okay, I relented to that (it's a surprise for my adult DD who has SEN, I said initially we'd meet them there).
Now my friend is saying she's been ill since last night, feels worse today (very covid sounding symptoms), she's done two tests (negative) but I'm a bit reluctant to share a car with her now, I don't want my DD to catch anything (covid or not) also I sing in a band and we have a big gig coming up next weekend that's been sold out for ages ... AIBU to ask that they make their own way there ? At least we shall be outside once we arrive at the event.

Could be hayfever?
People are suspicious of my hayfever. It could be nothing sinister.

Hiya - she doesn't usually get hayfever, she's described today that she's 'totally out of breath and delirious' 😳Yesterday she had 'sore throat, cough & headache'.

Doesn’t sound good with the delirium! Hmm…

She doesn’t sound fit to attend full stop

SandyWedges · 23/06/2022 12:43

If she's delirious she needs to rest not be going anywhere

durianeater · 23/06/2022 12:44

She would be massively inconsiderate to even think about going in your car. I'm just getting over a miserable bug with sore throat, coughing etc. It wasn't covid but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be inconsiderate to spread it around.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2022 12:45

I wouldn't want to share a car with her either. I didn't test positive until a few days after I started to feel unwell. Even if it isn't Covid you don't want to be catching any other virus. If she has other means of getting to the event then I would suggest to her that you travel separately and meet there.

purplecorkheart · 23/06/2022 12:45

I have never known Hayfever with Delirium. When I tested positive for Covid I was negative in the morning despite feel slightly unwell. I tested positive a few hours later as I tested again before before boarding public transport.

Bollindger · 23/06/2022 12:46

Can you afford to cover her taxi there and back?
Yes I know you don't have to, but if you could, it might save your friendship, and tell her your worried she has a BUG starting and you can't chance being ill before a Gig and disappointing 100's.

JoanCandy · 23/06/2022 12:48

Cheers folks ... I think I'm going to suggest that she stays at home for this, we can re-arrange when she's better.
You don't think I'm being a massive, paranoid bell-end then ? 😂

BiddyPop · 23/06/2022 12:48

I'd definitely be saying you will meet her there then.

Lobelia123 · 23/06/2022 12:49

Doesnt have to be Covid to mess up your evening and your work commitments - she has no right to expect you to take her in the circumstances. Honestly, im cross on your behalf - this is really selfish stupid behaviour! Not much of a 'friend'

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/06/2022 12:50

Don't feel bad about cancelling
She should be staying at home whatever her virus is!

Hiya - not really but they have a car each anyway and it's not that far, 10 minutes ?

BiddyPop · 23/06/2022 12:50

Suggesting she stays at home is even better in terms of not passing it on to you or anyone else.

Yodaisawally · 23/06/2022 12:51

Covid or not, if she actually feels that bad she should stay at home.

BlanketsBanned · 23/06/2022 12:51

If she is out of breath and delirious then she needs to call for medical help

No.

She is, though, for not withdrawing.

pigsDOfly · 23/06/2022 12:52

No way should you be giving her a lift in your car.

She sound very ill if she's delirious and should be staying at home not spreading it around, whether it's covid or something else.

My son had covid and the whole way through the lateral flow tests showed negative even when the PCR test was positive; lateral flow tests are not that reliable.

HollowTalk · 23/06/2022 12:52

I wouldn't give her a lift, but I wonder why you were going to drive out of your way to pick her up and take her back when she had her own car!

JoanCandy · 23/06/2022 12:56

Update - she's just texted me to say that she's tested again and she is positive for covid 😬
I thought it sounded worse than your average cold or flu.

OOAOML · 23/06/2022 12:56

I had Covid last month and the early symptoms were like bad hay fever.

OOAOML · 23/06/2022 12:57

Ah cross post - not surprised!

Startuplife · 23/06/2022 12:58

This has happened with so many people in our office. They feel ill but test negative so come to work and then the next day they’re positive.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 23/06/2022 13:21

I felt rough all weekend. Headache, sore throat, stuffy nose, runny nose and itchy eyes. Assumed it was hay fever did a test anyway and it was negative. Sunday night I started with the shits. Monday morning same symptoms but test still negative. Same on Tuesday morning. Tuesday night I nipped to Aldi to get some stuff throat still killing so had a jakemans throat sweet. Which didn't ease the pain. Due back at work the next day so I did another Covid and bam instant positive. Felt rough as shite all day yesterday constantly going hot and cold. My legs were aching like anything and my head felt like it had been run over by a Truck. Today feel great just a bit snotty, even managed to do a bit of tidying up. Yet my tests are getting stronger and I now can't taste fuck all
