To wonder when the whininess stops?

Help! I have a 3 year old (4 in October). He whines SO much. Is this still normal at this age? It's worse when he's tired (fair enough) but it just seems like all the time really! He'll whine and seni-cry over the tiniest things. At what age do children usually get less whiny??

Not by almost 4.5 I'm afraid 🤣 Joking aside I don't think this is age specific. I have started to literally ignore it with my dd. I don't get cross or punish but I tell her I can't understand her whiny voice and persist with this until she tells me properly what she wants. It's definitely improving. Good luck xx

TheGriffle · 22/06/2022 21:59

Normal. But it never ends. My 9 year still has a good whinge to be honest!

Dartsplayer · 22/06/2022 21:59

12YO DD stillwhines now when she's tired, upset etc. It's just not as frequent as when she was little

UndertheCedartree · 22/06/2022 22:06

My 10 yo still whines ever bloody morning! Sorry!

Jalisco · 22/06/2022 22:23

Around about 67....

dottymac · 22/06/2022 22:31

My 8 year old still whines the nips off me, drives me nuts - pretty sure it's a personality trait they may not necessarily grow out off...soz 🤦😬

5zeds · 22/06/2022 22:34

Some do some don’t. It’s quite tiring

VladsPants · 22/06/2022 22:39

Never.

DecimatedDreams · 22/06/2022 22:40

As a teacher, I find y4 to be peak whine. Only taught y4 for 1 year, never again.

EllieFAnt82 · 22/06/2022 22:53

For some people it never stops…🤣

ClinkeyMonkey · 22/06/2022 23:00

My eldest DS has never been much of a whiner. But Sweet Holy Jeez, his brother more than made up for it and he's still going at 9yo. He's lovely in many ways, but the whining is pure torture. I can't see any end in sight. It may last for all eternity.

EmmiJay · 22/06/2022 23:10

My DD is 8 and hasn't stopped whining yet. Oh and do not get me started on the fxcking vibrating in great annoyance that she does. She did it in tesco the other day, so I mimicked her.😐 Right in the biscuit aisle, I vibrated like a lunatic, arms flailing and everything. She was shocked at first then did the biggest laugh. Stopped that tantrum in its tracks. Still can't believe I did that tbh.

MushyPeasPrincess · 22/06/2022 23:16

I think you either have a whiner or not. My dc wasn't but one of his little nursery chums certainly was and is still going at nearly 16 ... maybe I shouldn't tell you that Grin

strivingtosucceed · 23/06/2022 00:07

Never OP, i'm almost 30 and still whine most days, brace yourself!

GrandRapids · 23/06/2022 00:29

My 7 yr old can be very moany at times. The difference is that now I can tell him to bloody well pack it in - and for the most part he does....

This tactic would not have worked when he was 3!

coffeecupsandfairylights · 23/06/2022 06:24

DH likes a good whine and he's almost forty Grin

surreygirl1987 · 23/06/2022 20:29

Haha. Good to know it's normal. Bad to know it never ends! But thank you. Your replies have really reassured me.

I nipped this in the bud from very early on! My friends 9 year old whines all the time. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever heard him talk in his normal voice and I just could not cope with that!

surreygirl1987 · 23/06/2022 20:33

But how do you 'nip it in the bud'? I've tried all sorts with my son!

Yr10 is peak whine in secondary.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 23/06/2022 20:40

46 and counting, at least in my XH's case! Both my 11yo and my nearly 8yo still whine like buggery, it drives me BATSHIT.

TheVillageBaker · 23/06/2022 20:42

DD is 5.5 and is honestly getting worse!

orwellwasright · 23/06/2022 20:54

Most memes are meh but I did smile at...

Every time your kid whines have a drink...
... Actually, don't do that. You'll die

NotMeNoNo · 23/06/2022 20:57

There's a glimmer of hope at 18, on a good day

Fulbe · 23/06/2022 21:35

@Labdo please tell us how to nip it in the bud.. my 2 year old has just started
