Passport in maiden name and covid pass in married name - help!!

Lottie2267 · 22/06/2022 15:09

just wondering if anyone is / has been in the same situation.

we are meant to be travelling to France in august and my vaccine pass is showing in my married name. My passport is still in my maiden name and I don’t want to send it off to change it with all the delays at the passport office.

I have asked my GP surgery if they will change my name back to my maiden name and they have refused!

can I just take my marriage certificate with me? I have a while to figure it out but would rather get it sorted sooner rather than later.

grateful to anyone who can offer any advice! Thank you xx

I went to Spain last year and just took my marriage certificate with me!

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirements

Says you should be OK with your marriage cert!

Justwanttobebythesea · 22/06/2022 15:18

I have flown (Switzerland) and driven (France) in this situation -I took my marriage cert both times. Flying they did check my marriage cert but driving they didn't.

Catlitterqueen · 22/06/2022 15:20

Thanks for asking OP! I’m in the same situation but not travelling until September.
I’ll make sure I take my marriage certificate with me 🙂

SummerLobelia · 22/06/2022 15:22

heavens I never even thought of this! I am in the same situation.

Thanks OP and thanks @namechange30455 for the gov link.

Wouldyouever · 22/06/2022 15:24

I explained the situation to my GP receptionist and they were able to change my name back to my maiden name on the NHS system. That changed the name on the NHS app which has your covid passport.

HelloSunshine11 · 22/06/2022 15:25

When we went to Spain in May no one even looked at our covid passes. I wouldn't worry, just take your marriage cert with you.

purpleboy · 22/06/2022 15:27

I had this but my go happily changed my name on the system.
Why has yours refused?

fishonabicycle · 22/06/2022 15:30

I've changed names for this for people at work (GP). Can't see why yours won't?

MaliMom · 22/06/2022 15:32

Yep we went away in the half term just gone and my passport is in my maiden name and Covid pass in my married name.
I just took my marriage certificate and it was fine.

PoleFairy · 22/06/2022 15:34

You need to get your GP to change it back. I have heard situations where marriage cert has been refused (admittely this was in April when things were maybe more strict. It was Spain though and they still require covid cert)

Lottie2267 · 22/06/2022 15:34

Thank you everyone, really appreciate your responses and made me feel a lot better about the whole situation.

I don’t know why the surgery won’t change it, they said it’s not something they would do? I spoke to one of the ladies on the phone so I guess I could call in in person and see if that makes a difference? Seems like a marriage certificate should be ok though 😀

I had this at the end of May, also flew to france. No one asked to see my covid pass.

Abridget7 · 22/06/2022 15:55

My GP changed mine. Did take a bit of persuasion but they finally succumbed.

CloudPop · 22/06/2022 16:20

My GP changed mine, sent them a copy of my passport and once they got their finger out it happened on the main NHS record within a day or so. Does your GP surgery have an online query facility where you can set out your requirement and a copy of your passport ?

Of course they have to change your name, they do it all the time when people get married so what's the difference ?

GrandTheftWalrus · 22/06/2022 16:24

My covid pass was in my old name and passport in my new name. I just phoned the docs and asked that my name was changed, all she asked what was changed and my date of birth and it was updated about 2 days later. Didn't have to give proof or anything.

MirandaWest · 22/06/2022 16:26

My passport and records were in different names. Took my passport to the GP yesterday, it got copied and when I looked at the NHS app today my name had been changed.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/06/2022 16:28

I used to live in France. They are used to checking marriage certificates, lots of French women keep their maiden name as I did . No problem.

TibetanTerrah · 22/06/2022 16:32

Not exactly the same but a friend of mine doesn't use the first name on her birth certificate, it's literally on her passport and bank statements and that's it. She goes by her middle name everywhere else, including all her GP records/NHS app.

She went to Turkey last year and was in a last minute panic that the first names were different, thinking they would think that she had borrowed a relative's covid pass. It was absolutely fine, they didn't even question it and she didn't bring any additional docs. It was stressful for her though!

Lottie2267 · 22/06/2022 19:11

Thank you again all and thank you @CloudPop I used the online facility this afternoon and they have changed it already 🤯 not sure why the lady I spoke to earlier refused.

thanks again everyone xx

I went to Spain last year and just took my marriage certificate with me!

We did similar when we took my divorced sister on holiday-bought her ticket in her married name& didn't realise her passport was in her maiden name. We rang the airport and they said just to take her divorce papers with her.

sken92 · 22/06/2022 19:35

I had this travelling to Rome a few months ago (only dawned on me when we landed!) I had a screenshot of my marriage certificate on my phone anyway but no one actually checked the covid pass 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cyclingforcake · 22/06/2022 19:42

Take your marriage certificate with you. You almost certainly won’t be asked for it in France and then all they’ll want to see is your QR code. For the journey go on the live chat function for whoever you’re travelling with and they’ll be able to validate your pass for travel. Both the tunnel team and easyJet did that for me. Far far quicker than trying to get the nhs to change your name!!
