To be chuffed I ran 2 miles

I ran 2 miles today without stopping and I enjoyed it!!
It's not much obviously, but I've never enjoyed running. I'm short and bottom heavy, so it doesn't come naturally for me. Last summer I ran a lot to loose weight, and always struggled with it. Now I've stopped trying to loose weight (don't even weigh myself) and found myself enjoying it! Woohoo!!

Congratulations! Well done you.

BobbinHood · 13/06/2022 20:48

Well done! I’m envious, I’ve never been able to get myself to enjoy it.

HouseOfRunners · 13/06/2022 20:49

Well done 👏🏼 2 miles is brilliant!

TheVolturi · 13/06/2022 20:51

dizzydizzydizzy · 13/06/2022 20:53

Fantastic! I love running too.

FromAnotherPlanett · 13/06/2022 20:54

Thank you ❤️❤️ @BobbinHood i'm 42, and I've tried all my adult life to get into running and I think I've finally cracked the code 😂

I can feel your enthusiasm! I love it at this time of year, the dappled light through the trees and freshly cut grass in the parks plus running past fragrant plants. You'll get the running bug now! Enjoy Smile

AutieAdult · 13/06/2022 20:55

Well done - two miles is great 😊

If the emoji don't show...they are dancing lady and hands up....

I've started walking a lot and I enjoy it too. Not loosing any weight annoyingly but I am enjoying the solitude.

PurpleButterflyWings · 13/06/2022 20:58

Fuck me that's amazing!!! 😘 Makes me wanna go for a little jog now. You're an inspiration lass!

I bet you'll be toning up, and slimming down a bit though. Smile

Very well done.

If you want to, the longer distances should start coming more easily now. You’ve done the hardest part.

FromAnotherPlanett · 13/06/2022 20:59

@Lennybenny I love the emojis 🤩 And who cares about loosing weight! Enjoy your walks 🤗

Well done! I always hated running, probably because I always tried to go too quickly them burned out after a mile but my DD signed us up for Parkrun 5 years ago (I was 43!) and learned to pace myself. I've run ever since. Parkrun is a thing of the past for me but I can run around 5-7k now with a little stop or two and love the feeling it gives me. It also really helps to have a running partner to take your mind off it!

Well done, that's such an achievement!!

FromAnotherPlanett · 13/06/2022 21:04

@NotKevinTurvey you know what I've started to do on my runs sometimes?! If there's an uphill, I speed up and run full speed til I reach the top. I'm exhausted, but I think that's built up my stamina ☺️

Adamantspants · 13/06/2022 21:07

I would be mighty proud of that!!

FromAnotherPlanett · 13/06/2022 21:08

@Funkyslippers I sometimes go running with my aunt. She's nearly70, so I've had to up my game a bit cause I can't be more unfit than her 😂 She's a former top athlete though, so not your average pensioner 🤭

It does. As you progress interval training like this is extremely effective at improving your capacity. Taking it sensibly for the most part but throwing in the odd 1 minute flat-out bit increases your capacity much more than a longer but gentle run.

You do need to pay attention to how you are running, it’s easier to pick up an injury when going flat-out.

You should be so proud of yourself, it’s a real achievement.

FromAnotherPlanett · 13/06/2022 21:17

@NotKevinTurvey oh there's a name for it 😅 good to know. I really think it's made a difference. And it's easier to motivate myself to go flat out for a bit rather than think of running for an hour, say..

This is such an encouraging thread.

What “cracked the code” for you? It was couch to 5k for me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/06/2022 21:20

I'd be ecstatic if I could do that!

Do you have a fitness tracker / running watch? I use one of the Garmin ones, and do like seeing my improvement in numbers.
