Do you have anyone to go for an impromptu pint with?

It's Friday

The working week is done.

The sun in shining.

There's a few quid in the bank.

Do you have anyone / the kind of friendship where you can call them up to go for a swift one?

I'm probably being sexist here but feel like guys find it easier to have these kind of friendships whereas, for me at least, going for a couple of drinks takes an enormous amount of planning and scheduling.

Therefore it's unlikely that on the odd Friday I fancy an hour out for a quick drink that I'd actually have a friends to go with.

Same for you or no?

No, but my chosen pint partner would be dh anyway tbh.

easyday · 10/06/2022 17:01

One friend who i regularly meet up for a coffee or drink after work before going home to cook dinner. We might meet at a cafe or each other's house. Not on the day, but usually a call the day before to ask if she's free.
Before we all had kids it was obviously easier.

12Thorns · 10/06/2022 17:04

Yes. Probably. If I wanted to. Mostly I just want to go home at the end of the day though

mosesisnotyourfriend · 10/06/2022 17:05

Fancy a drink, OP? Smile

mosesisnotyourfriend · 10/06/2022 17:05

There that was easy

JasmineAndSalt · 10/06/2022 17:11

Have this issue too. Always so much planning needed even for a quick drink or coffee. I wish it wasn't the case but I guess that's just life when almost all my friends have both jobs and families.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/06/2022 17:14

Yeah a few locally

Mangogogogo · 10/06/2022 17:17

That’s hilarious because the person I immediately thought of is a guy 😂

SeriousAlligator · 10/06/2022 17:17

Yes. But I got this way by going for drinks alone in the first place, which I'm still happy to do. Now I know lots of people in my local so don't usually even have to arrange it, just turn up, or if I want to meet someone I msg them and we usually manage to schedule ourselves within a few minutes.
I'm gay. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Ragwort · 10/06/2022 17:19

Yes I could ... but I rarely do because I prefer drinking in the comfort of my own home but I have plenty of friends I could invite round for a glass of wine.

Startuplife · 10/06/2022 17:22

No not really. My girlfriends and I are all planners so generally have plans well in advance and aren’t free at short notice. Also quite a few of my friends have moved out of London recently so it feels like there’s less people around to go out for impromptu drinks with.

I definitely feel like this more in the summer when we have lovely sunny evenings. Plus DP works long hours and Saturdays so I spend quite a lot of time at home alone. Perhaps it’s time I found some more local friends.

Yodaisawally · 10/06/2022 17:25

Impromptu is usually a drink with colleagues after work.

Scuttlingherbert · 10/06/2022 17:27

Completely agree and it pisses me off. Wish I had more impromptu friends

KatherineofGaunt · 10/06/2022 17:28

No. I have started to become friendly with a couple of local women, but one has a small baby and the other doesn't really drink, so popping along somewhere for a pint or two isn't happening! Unless it's DH. He doesn't have anyone either.

Life is hard.

usernotfound0000 · 10/06/2022 17:29

No, all my friends live too far away to do anything spontaneous, we have some friends locally but not with that kind of relationship. I would go with DH but can't because of the kids.

InChocolateWeTrust · 10/06/2022 17:30

Yep. I live in a tight knit village, I've got at least 10 options with a 100m radius.

Oblomov22 · 10/06/2022 17:32

Yes, a couple.
Is it the norm to not?

iklboo · 10/06/2022 17:32

Probably not going out for a pint but a few I could invite round or meet up at their house. Mind you, I'm at that age where anything impromptu fills me with horror 😄.

Woolandwonder · 10/06/2022 17:32

Not really. Tends to need a bit of planning just in terms of other peoples childcare/work schedules etc. DP does though and they are mutual friends really so I sometimes tag along. I find it quite hard to do things spontaneously though so usually don't bother.

Bluebellbike · 10/06/2022 17:35

No. My drinking buddy died last November. Really miss his company and our impromptu pub crawls.☹

pippinsleftleg · 10/06/2022 17:37

No, but I’d love to.

@Bluebellbike sorry for your loss

LubaLuca · 10/06/2022 17:38

I can highly recommend making friends with the landlord or landlady in your local. There's always a friend to talk to when you just fancy dropping in.

mosesisnotyourfriend · 10/06/2022 17:38

Anyone in Brighton? I've had one glass on my own but im bored and fancy a chat

TheChosenTwo · 10/06/2022 17:43

A couple. Rarely do it though as I don’t have much of a chance really!
Not really work colleagues as I work in a school where everyone tends to stay late and then drive back to family commitments or pick children up from childcare etc - no one really lives locally to the school.
