How often do you have people in your house?

Sometimes I feel like inviting people over for a social but I always get nervous that I am the host or that they won't go home once I've had enough.

I probably have someone round once every other month.

As often as I can. I live hosting. We had 5 additional kids and 2 additional adults last weekend overnight, then cousins for the weekend before, and people in for a cuppa two or three times a week if we can.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 07/06/2022 10:25

5 or 6 times a week, more pop inside for tea over a social event.

My home is the meet up hub for my family, drives me insane at times.

RenegadeMatron · 07/06/2022 10:29

About every two-three weeks. Sometime more often.

I have some friends where we rotate Friday nights, and it’s just a few drinks and takeaways for the kids - super casual.

And then Saturdays are a bit more organised - friends over for dinner. Occasionally it might be a more casual impromptu get-together for a few drinks.

Our friends are like-minded and so the hosting is shared evenly amongst all of us. It doesn’t all fall one one family.

Never.

Can't stand it.

Hate being invited over to other people's house too and can't remember the last time I did that.

Forinara · 07/06/2022 10:37

Since Covid, never. Lots of tradespeople though.

RollOnWinter · 07/06/2022 10:39

Never. Family come round, of course, but I tend to meet friends in cafes. No reason other than I like to get out of the house, not be in and have to cook for people.

MrszClaus · 07/06/2022 10:43

Probably weekly. I like having guests, enjoy hosting and enjoy going to other peoples houses too.

Zpoa · 07/06/2022 10:52

Rarely. Think the last time was two years ago.

Not keen on people in my space.

jay55 · 07/06/2022 10:56

Once or twice a year

Botoxbotox · 07/06/2022 11:10

Hardly ever, I am beyond fed up of inviting someone in for coffee and they are still there 2 hours later, or god fobid a bbq or suchlike and you're trying to put the kids to bed with people not leaving.
I'm more than happy to have the children's friends over to play as I'm happy to say "get your shoes on, I'm taking you home" but you can't be quite so blunt with adults.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 07/06/2022 11:12

About twice a month. We tend to meet up outdoors with the dogs or go to a pub or restaurant or the beach instead.

LondonQueen · 07/06/2022 11:17

It's more rare it's just us in our house! DC constantly have friends over for play dates, me and DH invite friends over, relatives visit (very occasionally...) I love hosting.

playtest12 · 07/06/2022 11:23

About once a month. I'm not a huge fan of having people in my house.

Spitescreen · 07/06/2022 11:27

I think Mn has a higher than average proportion of people who don’t like socialising in or out of their own houses, so comments will reflect that.

We currently live on a building site (long, ongoing house renovation) with a tiny, temporary kitchen and living rooms stacked with stuff from the part of the house we’ve knocked, so not ideal, in that there’s nowhere comfortable for people to be, plus outside is partly blocked off and full of diggers and cement— but we still have friends or family over. Maybe twice a week?

SirenSays · 07/06/2022 11:31

Hmmm it varies for me. Sometimes just one or two people a week, sometimes it's a full house every single day. This is always a busy month as lots of birthdays and have friends coming to stay.

Lizzieismagic · 07/06/2022 11:35

Never..no family except dc and no friends.
Genius really as never have to be Guest Ready!!

Stevienickssnickers · 07/06/2022 11:39

Rarely. I'm not a natural host.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 07/06/2022 11:41

Never. I'm embarrassed of our house

EileenGC · 07/06/2022 11:45

Never. But then, I have no living room and my kitchen is tiny. People would need to eat standing up, in the corridor.

I do very often organise dinners out, or picnics, or just larger gatherings for coffee or ice creams. That, I can do.

I do have relatives or friends that visit overnight every 3-4 months, but it's much easier when it's just a couple of them and we don't need a fully set table for breakfast. I have space for an air mattress, people get some cereal or fruit in the morning and off we go. Come back again to sleep.

KitKattaktik · 07/06/2022 11:51

We have friends over for a meal about once a month, and they do the same. Two of my friends pop in 2/3 times a week for a chat etc and we have a joint bbq (weather permitting!) every couple of weeks in summer. Love village life!

Dalekjastninerels · 07/06/2022 11:54

Rarely - just my parents and very occassionally very close friends.

I am very unsociable and my home is my sanctuary.

InChocolateWeTrust · 07/06/2022 11:55

Loads. My house is located centrally vs friends and near school,so people are always welcome for a coffee etc

pastaparadise · 07/06/2022 12:00

I love having people over, though house a tip so it's always an effort to tidy up. I'd love to be 'house ready'. But dp is very unsociable sadly and hates having people over.

So it's a compromise- maybe every fortnight or so for play dates/ my friends over.

Needsomethingtoread · 07/06/2022 12:04

In the summer quite a bit as I have a lovely garden that I love being out in but not so much in winter.

Airyfairy03 · 07/06/2022 12:04

Probably averages about once every 2 weeks? Family or friends?
