To ask why are you awake still

I've been up since 3am yesterday so almost 24h. I'm absolutely knackered.

3x DC who are all poorly. I'm stuck between 2 DC and keep having to settle the other one every hour.

Meanwhile my DH is in our guest bedroom snoring away as he has a very important meeting in the morning. Funny how these important meetings only seem to pop up when the children don't sleep 😂

Why are you awake? Please make me feel like I'm not alone. All of my neighbours houses look dark like they're soundly asleep 😭

I've had 2 hours sleep across 3 days, just can't settle. Vicious cycle that keeps repeating...

Outwiththenorm · 07/06/2022 01:45

DS also poorly here. He’s had croup, which I didn’t know wasn’t just a Victorian illness. On the mend but has been howling every night and I can’t get back to sleep after it. x3 I cannot imagine so hang in there.

I stupidly had a coffee in a cafe at lunchtime, I'm menopausal and prone to insomnia so should have known better. Of course the menopause has also made me more prone to anxiety so when I'm lying awake I go over things that are worrying me, today minor issues with two of my young adult children and DHs lack of work life balance.
Just got up to have a bowl of cereal, awake so long I got really hungry!
I remember the days of childhood illnesses, the time all three got Norovirus (followed by DH and I) was particularly memorable. I hope they feel better soon.

Ladywiddio · 07/06/2022 01:49

Always awake until gone 2am,retired and no need to be up early.

Biscuitandacuppa · 07/06/2022 01:52

I have intermittent insomnia which weirdly is often worse when I’m really tired. I have had a week or more of disturbed sleep due to a poorly dd, my cat thinking that 4.30/5am is now waking up time and pain in my ankle (post fracture surgery). I’ve got a hospital appointment tomorrow morning and I know I need to be up early so my brain won’t switch off!

Insomnia

TeapotsLoveYouLots · 07/06/2022 01:57

No idea why I'm awake other than I feel utterly crappy and weirdly my armpits hurt 🤷‍♀️

I could have fallen asleep many times whilst battling terrorising toddler throughout the day but now its way past my bed time and I just can't settle

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/06/2022 01:59

Night shift worker.

popcornfrenzy · 07/06/2022 02:01

Had a nap on the sofa earlier - was lovely but I'm paying the price now Hmm

swedex · 07/06/2022 02:04

Was asleep and then as usual the day before I go back to work after 2 weeks sick leave bang 2am I'm wide awake. Try to get back to sleep but mind starts to overthink...tonight's joys is have we got asbestos in the house?! Why is it always the middle of the night when these random thoughts come to you!
Now sat on guest bed scrolling and realizing I've got to be up in 3hours 😫

Speccybibliophile · 07/06/2022 02:08

39 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Irregular cramping plus pelvic girdle pain and heartburn topped with nausea. Five year old daughter has had most settled night in a fortnight since recovering from a nasty ear infection so I should be catching up on sleep.

Also just found out today that our childcare for when I go into labour (MIL) has Covid. Our only other options live further away and have kids of their own/work commitments.

As if that wasn't enough, husband has started new job with a period of training so can't take more than a day or two unpaid leave.

It's strange but despite everything I am still excited to meet this much longed for baby and have him here safely delivered.

MissM94 · 07/06/2022 02:09

Up with my newborn and having a fucking awful time. I absolutely hate being a mum and hate my child atm, who has been screaming for the last 4 hours, maybe 5, he will not go to sleep & is feeding every 2 hours. Absolutely hate my life

Polpette · 07/06/2022 02:12

@MissM94 so sorry you're struggling. Lack of sleep will make it all a thousand times worse. I've been there myself, it does get better I promise but I also know from experience hearing people say that doesn't really help in the moment!

I just have boring old insomnia and work stress, my sympathies with all of you that are desperate to sleep but struggling with children.

JoanThursday · 07/06/2022 02:12

'D'H came crashing into the bedroom at 1am. I'd already been in bed for 2 hours and he was still up doing 'stuff'. Hmm

Now he is snoring away next to me and I'm wide awake worrying about work.

dalmatianmad · 07/06/2022 02:18

Awake with 7 month old DGS. He hardly ever wakes at night. He's pulling himself up and walking up and down the cot holding onto the side like a bloody crab giggling to himself.
I'm sorry you're all awake too.

Mallowmarshmallow · 07/06/2022 02:24

I have insomnia at the best of times but my DD was sick last night so my husband and I are doing shifts on the sofa with her. It's currently my shift to 'sleep' in bed but I can't sleep. I'm also worried my DS is going to wake and be sick too. I've also managed to persuade myself that maybe I feel a bit sick too....

I seem to have a phobia of impending sick, despite when it actually happens, I'm fairly ok with it.

Aphrael · 07/06/2022 02:25

Just took some meds (acid reflux), 20 mins then food, music and sleep attempt 256!

Sorry to those of you struggling with little ones, I remember those days well! DS was a nightmare, DD was an angel!

ChampagneLassie · 07/06/2022 02:26

My newborn is feeding. We got 3.5 hrs this eve so I'm taking that as a win 😂.... but hoping I get some more sleep.

MissM94 · 07/06/2022 02:28

@Polpette ahh thank you 💙

rocksonrocks · 07/06/2022 02:28

The danger nap on the couch at 5pm seems to have tricked my brain into thinking I don't need a full nights sleep!

Wishing the sweetest dreams to you all when they finally arrive. Star

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/06/2022 02:29

Made the mistake of reading a work email with not great news and now my mind is racing.

mamaneedsanap55 · 07/06/2022 02:29

I'm feeding my 6 week old. She'll probably be up again at about 5.I don't mind the night feeds so much, it's certainly preferable to her screaming all day. Dh is snoring next to me. He isn't hands on with her and I am struggling but don't like to admit it. She is such harder work than my other dc. I love MN at this time as there's always someone up and it's nice to feel you're not alone.

PeppaPigOinkOinkOink · 07/06/2022 02:30

Work, In charge in A&E, really busy shift tonight and short staffed, but just managing to eat my tea and sit down for 5 glorious minutes.

theMedicinalPorpoise · 07/06/2022 02:34

DD(6) has been up with growing pains and cannot settle as her legs and feet are so achy. She's got my long hot water bottle, fingers crossed that's it for tonight.

To all who are struggling with babies - it's hell on earth. Do whatever you need to get through it. You WILL get through it, you've got this (even if it feels like you haven't) FlowersBrewCake
