I live about 5 mins away and was walking home from tea when I saw a neighbour protesting

purplesequins · 06/06/2022 20:17

Just Tory MPs.

According to the BBC, 141 MPs said publicly they intended to vote for Boris Johnson, with other sources quoting up to 160. Some no comments and, as it's a secret ballot, we can't know for sure of anyone's vote, of course.

He'll have schmoozed the MPs in his address earlier and romp it. I think the fact it's a secret ballot will benefit him.

DirtyteaCup · 06/06/2022 20:26

The bell has just rung I think !

'Red Wall' MP votes against Johnson
Dehenna Davison, elected in 2019 for Bishop Auckland in County Durham - one of the so-called Red Wall seats the Conservatives took from Labour - says she has voted against Boris Johnson.
"This is not a decision I took lightly. I listened carefully to all sides, and particularly to the many constituents who contacted me sharing their thoughts and experiences," she wrote on social media.
"Weighing it all up, I voted against the prime minister tonight."

So some MPs do listen to their constituents.

You hear them better on the other side

Flumpaphone · 06/06/2022 20:28

No I've met Dehenna, she's generally nuts. Not my MP but nearby.

She had the gig presenting with Nigel Farage on GBeebies and is in a very wobbly parliamentary seat.

Flumpaphone · 06/06/2022 20:29

I doubt she's listened at all. More like the TV Presenter job isn't working out how she thought and she needs the day job as a fall back

WaitroseWoman · 06/06/2022 20:30

Another one listening to constituents:

We need a new direction, says Tory MP who quit as aide to Truss

John Lamont - the Scottish Conservative MP who resigned as a ministerial aide this evening - has been explaining why he's come to the decision to vote against Boris Johnson.
"I'm clear that we need a new direction, a new leader, and a new style of government," he tells the BBC.
He said that he had found some of the events that took place in Downing Street particularly shocking and sickening, and that many of his constituents in the Borders felt the same.
Lamont refused to speculate about this evening's result, but said "clearly a lot of MPs are very unhappy,"

On the basis that I really really want the Tories to lose the next election, I actually want Boris to win tonight's vote.

I genuinely think he is one of the best electoral assets that Labour and the Liberals have right now.

@DirtyteaCup Is there any white smoke?

Oh, hang on, that might be a pope or spoilt ballots

😂

The fact Boris couldn't even get public declarations from people he'd actually given jobs to in the Tory Party speaks badly: he really might lose, by which I mean more than 140 of his colleagues vote against him, and then even if he stays, he is totally useless, no power, no ability to reshuffle, nothing.

160-170 are on the payroll, as I understand it, so I'd be surprised if any of them voted against him.
