To say the scales are lying to me

Lighthearted of course! Just before getting in the bath yesterday, I weighed myself stark naked. I wallowed in the bath for about an hour watching tiktok, got out and weighed myself again, with wet hair and a towel on my head, but otherwise not a stitch on me.

In that hour I apparently lost 4lbHmm

it's not the first time. Every time I have a bath I "lose" at least 2lb!

My only conclusion is that osmosis is taking place. Vaguely remembering my gcse definition, it's when water moves from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration... so clearly I'm made up of at least 101% water Grin

Jockeys and boxers sit in a hot bath in an effort to shed pounds to make weight so something scientific must take place.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 05/06/2022 07:02

You sweat in the hot water and lose that weight

itsgettingweird · 05/06/2022 07:05

I like the idea of a bath diet.

Instead of 3 healthy meals a day.

3 long soaks in the bath!

With the cost of food and electricity is a competition to know which would actually be the cheaper option Grin

Ugh this is so true Grin I've lived in my flat for nearly four years and it never had a shower. Such a basic thing as washing was.. expensive. My landlord recently refurbed the bathroom and I can't tell you how delighted I was when a surprise shower had been installed!

So now I have to decide what I want more, to lose a few lbs having baths, or lower energy bills Grin

This.

It's very straightforward!

picklemewalnuts · 05/06/2022 07:46

I've always assumed your skin soaks up water, and you get heavier! I have very soft spongy skin after a bath!

Next time before being so smug, read the OP and realise i did not lose 4lbs of sweat in one hour, it just didn't happen Grin

I'm sticking with the theory that I'm 101% water tbh, makes more sense than 2 litres of sweat oozing from me in 60 mins...

@TibetanTerrah

Er, why not?

Not exactly 'sweat' but absolutely you did lose that amount in terms of water loss, through your skin, so it's not wrong to say 'sweat'. 🤷🏻‍♀️Soon to be restored when you drink a glass of water, eat, rehydrate.

You were there an hour. It makes perfect sense.

Odd that you can't understand it. I know you're being 'lighthearted' but your osmosis understanding is wrong too & the explanation about water loss is perfectly correct. No-one being smug 🫤

sparklefarts · 05/06/2022 08:29

Osmosis.

sparklefarts · 05/06/2022 08:30

Or would that be the other way round 🤣🤷‍♀️

Greatoutdoors · 05/06/2022 08:31

I think you dissolved a bit

Sorry, I realise my post reads a bit rudely, it wasn't intentional. It was just the "duhhh it's sweat" and I was like the equivalent of a 2l bottle of coke (almost)?! Really!? Grin

OneTC · 05/06/2022 08:38

You didn't sweat 4lbs in an hour.

Are they digital?

If you wish yourself 3 times in a row does it give you the exact weight every time?

My ones are so crap that I wish myself 3 times and do an average Grin

EatYourVegetables · 05/06/2022 08:39

Maybe the 4 pounds was all dirt? 😁

OneTC · 05/06/2022 08:41

*weigh ffs not wish

Pounds and litres are not the same thing......

TibetanTerrah · 05/06/2022 08:44

I wish myself lighter every time I weigh myself Grin

they are digital, and I didn't move the scales because apparently that can screw with the calibration. Maybe it really was 4lbs of grime and skin cells Envy

🤦

Peregrina · 05/06/2022 08:55

Now when you said the scales were lying, I thought you meant like the ones in my bathroom which insist on saying 11st when really I know it is 9st. I had to give up weighing myself, I couldn't put up with the dishonesty.

DolphinaPD · 05/06/2022 08:58

Why do people on here always have to take everything so literally?

Some real fun sponges on here. Life must be fun in your houses, not!

2 litres weighs approx 4lb 4oz though...

TerrifiedandWorried · 05/06/2022 09:02

In the interests of science I am taking one for the team and spending an hour in the bath.

Peregrina · 05/06/2022 09:04

So if I spent 7 hours in the bath, do you think my scales would say 9st?

FedUpWithInLaws · 05/06/2022 09:04

Oh I love this diet! I'm starting tomorrow :) (do you think it still works if I eat a box of chocolates while.in the bath?)

TerrifiedandWorried · 05/06/2022 09:15

14 minutes in and I'm flagging. Send prayers.
