To say the scales are lying to me

Lighthearted of course! Just before getting in the bath yesterday, I weighed myself stark naked. I wallowed in the bath for about an hour watching tiktok, got out and weighed myself again, with wet hair and a towel on my head, but otherwise not a stitch on me.

In that hour I apparently lost 4lbHmm

it's not the first time. Every time I have a bath I "lose" at least 2lb!

My only conclusion is that osmosis is taking place. Vaguely remembering my gcse definition, it's when water moves from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration... so clearly I'm made up of at least 101% water Grin

So if I spent 7 hours in the bath, do you think my scales would say 9st?

I'd have to spend about 7 weeks in the bath for mine to read that Grin

14 minutes in and I'm flagging. Send prayers.

There are two types of people in this world @TerrifiedandWorried ... those who have shit to do and don't have time to indulge in lying in a bath for ages, and those that delight in languishing like a hippo in a muddy river for as long as possible.

I am definitely a hippo.

I like the idea of a bath diet.

Instead of 3 healthy meals a day.

3 long soaks in the bath!

With the cost of food and electricity is a competition to know which would actually be the cheaper option Grin

This is the best idea I have ever heard Grin

Three types, because I've got things to do but I've been in the bath for 45 minutes already and struggling to get out Grin

OneTC · 05/06/2022 10:02

And I forgot to weigh before I got in. Damnit

Itsmyturn2222 · 05/06/2022 10:02

Same here I always feel fat annd round after a bath!! Like my body has absorbed water!!

I've always assumed your skin soaks up water, and you get heavier! I have very soft spongy skin after a bath!

Meant to quote this!

TerrifiedandWorried · 05/06/2022 11:03

45 minutes and weight exactly the same.

45 minutes and weight exactly the same.

Oh that's disappointing Sad maybe next time keep the hot water topped up and slowly boil yourself, or maybe scrub yourself with bleach and a wire brush to remove several layers of skin?

just to confirm, I did neither of these things!

I could chop a leg off?

I could chop a leg off?

As a pear shape with chunky thighs one leg would drop me at least a stone tempting

Osmosis would mean you Gain weight, not lose it.
Water moves across a semi permeable membrane from a lower concentration ( the bath water) to high solute concentration ( Human tissue fluids)
I don’t think we absorb water though via skin.

Just remembering old biology classes.

The osmosis comment was tongue in cheek, I do realise I'm not a higher concentration of water than... water! Wink

You must have lost more than the four lbs because you had the towel on your head. I haven't had a bath in ten years, maybe that's where I'm going wrong, (nothing to do with the jam butties!)

HollowTalk · 05/06/2022 15:17

Could it just be that the scales you bought from Argos for £9.99 15 years ago just aren't that accurate?

It could, but this is a new set bought sortly after Christmas, admittedly not top of the range but not poundshop equivalent either!

Maybe I should just accept my medical marvel status and order a pizza.

Did you have a HUGE wee in the bath?GrinGrinGrin

My diet starts today. I must have a shower before I weigh myself. Thanks for the tip!
