Registry office wedding - white dress or no?

I am getting married in August. Very small town hall jobby with just our 2 dc and mothers in laws as witnesses.

Will probs be only ceremony we have, no later date celebration in mind. Would you wear a casual white/ivory dress or just a nice coloured dress?

I feel like I might be a bit embarrassed in a white dress for such a short low key occasion but also think it will feel just like any other day if I don't make a nod to it being wedding specific by wearing the white.

What do you think?? Or anyone who did a small wedding what did you do and did you regret your dress choice?

All that matters is what you want to wear.

Hugasauras · 31/05/2022 13:53

I didn't wear white but that's not because I felt it wasn't appropriate for registry office or anything, just that I don't particularly like it. I wore a gold sequin dress instead because I loved it. But if you want to wear white go for it. Definitely no need to feel embarrassed about it. It's your wedding, regardless of where it's taking place!

PurpleButterflyWings · 31/05/2022 13:53

Of course. Why wouldn't you?'

MissConductUS · 31/05/2022 13:54

If you want to, absolutely wear white. It is your day, wear what you like and would want to have in the pictures.

Congratulations. 😄

purplecorkheart · 31/05/2022 13:54

I would wear exactly what you want. It is your day. Hope you all have a wonderful wedding.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 31/05/2022 13:55

I didn’t at the time (very low key ceremony in March) but rather wish I had. There are some lovely cream or white cotton dresses, doesn’t have to be long or silk.

RoomOfRequirement · 31/05/2022 13:56

I would definitely wear white!! If you don't want to you don't have to go full 'bridal' - there are a million in between styles.

Congratulations!

kittythames · 31/05/2022 13:57

We had exactly the same set up and I had a white dress. Long straight monsoon bridal thing. We wanted a low key wedding but still wanted to mark some of the usual traditions. Just because it's low key (or in our case on an absolute shoestring) doesn't mean you don't cherish the memory of a very special day. A tiny wedding is still a wedding.

However I agree with pp, wear whatever you feel fabulous in.

Penguinsaregreat · 31/05/2022 13:57

Of course you can wear white. You can also wear any colour.
Same applies to wherever you get married.
Personally I wouldn’t wear a full on wedding dress for this type of ceremony but a simple white or ivory dress sounds fab.

PinkWisteria · 31/05/2022 13:57

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in. My DiL wore a cream lace above knee dress, the person arriving as we left was in white ankle length dress - both had flowers and looked lovely, neither looked out of place.

Ponoka7 · 31/05/2022 13:57

Wear what you want, it's still your wedding day.

Crunchymum · 31/05/2022 13:58

Do you want us to find a dress for you? 😉
Monsoon is always lovely for not too OTT wedding stuff.

Doesn't have to be white but you should buy yourself something new, that you love and feel good in - why not??

Crunchymum · 31/05/2022 13:59

The all seem very bridal though! You may be better to look at formal wear?

CrotchetyQuaver · 31/05/2022 14:00

Wear it if you want to, a lot of brides do at registry office weddings, nobody will think it odd.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 31/05/2022 14:03

I wore the middle dress to my registry office wedding. There were only 7 of us in attendance. I felt amazing 😃

I've had two register office weddings. First wore an ivory dress and the second an icy pink silk, both full length. No regrets apart from the first marriage. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't go the whole meringue if you want to - people do! Personally, for August, I would wear something like Carrie Johnson wore.

Dowhatdowullywup · 31/05/2022 14:06

Thank you ladies I think I will go for the white 😁 needed the pep talk!

Size doesn't matter
It is a wedding
Please wear white.
Youll feel like a bride. Which is what you will be.
You are getting married
That is fabulous. Congrats.

I got married in my favourite shocking pink mini dress and have never regretted it.

10HailMarys · 31/05/2022 14:09

Loads of people wear white for register office weddings. It's totally normal! You don't have to wear white, obviously - you can wear whatever colour you like. But if you'd like to wear white, absolutely go for it. It wouldn't be inappropriate at all. I've been to register office weddings where the bride's been in a wedding gown and veil and I've also been to register office weddings where the bride has chosen a nice outfit that she could wear again to another occasion. Whatever you feel would work for you and your wedding will be lovely :)
