Registry office wedding - white dress or no?

Dowhatdowullywup · 31/05/2022 13:50

I am getting married in August. Very small town hall jobby with just our 2 dc and mothers in laws as witnesses.

Will probs be only ceremony we have, no later date celebration in mind. Would you wear a casual white/ivory dress or just a nice coloured dress?

I feel like I might be a bit embarrassed in a white dress for such a short low key occasion but also think it will feel just like any other day if I don't make a nod to it being wedding specific by wearing the white.

What do you think?? Or anyone who did a small wedding what did you do and did you regret your dress choice?

Although it is small it is still your wedding day.

You will look at the pics forever as will your DC.
Don't have any regrets-if you want a white dress/carry flowers/have flowers in your hair etc then 100% have it!!!!

Pick what you love and feel fab in-
loads of brides wear white to registry office wedding.

Many congrats!! Flowers

We had a very small wedding, less than 20 guests. I wasn't going to wear a big white dress, but as its my only wedding (I hope!) I felt I'd regret not doing it. I felt absolutely amazing on the day and am so happy I went for it.

pinkyredrose · 31/05/2022 14:35

Why do you think you need to wear white to be 'wedding specific'?

It's a load of made up nonsense, most wedding rules are. Wear what you like!

Alaimo · 31/05/2022 14:37

I didn't want a white dress, but found two versions of a dress I liked: a more casual (knee-length) one and a more formal full-length one. I'm so happy I chose the formal one. Because I usually never have reason to wear such a dress it really made me feel extra special on my wedding day.

But the OP WANTS to wear white

Well yes but only because she thinks white is 'wedding specific'

DogsAndGin · 31/05/2022 14:43

I had a tiny wedding - no guests at all, the photographers were the witnesses! I wore a white dress, which I adore, and don’t have any regrets at all 😊

Redannie118 · 31/05/2022 14:44

I had a tiny town Hall wedding with about 12 people and wore a very dramatic scarlet satin ballgown! The lady who got married just before us had a full princess dress with loads of crystal, full skirt, veil the lot ! She looked lovely. Its your day, wear what you like. If you are not the wedding dress type thats fine, but dont let what other people think put you off, its the one day you can do whatever YOU want !

I walk past a registry office almost every day so have seen a lot of weddings walking in and out!
I've been noticing outfits lately as a friend is getting married in a town hall next month and is stuck for an outfit.

The other day I saw a beautiful dress that was quite fitted, knee length, had long sleeves and a belt. There were just a hand full of guests but the looks of it. I thought it was a lovely outfit very elegant but not OTT for the town hall. It was a bit like a smart work dress but in white/cream.

Well, it kind of is. Confused For the bride anyway............

PurpleButterflyWings · 31/05/2022 14:53

I think if it's a second or third wedding and the bride is 45+, and smart suit or smart/pretty flowery dress or similar is OK. But for a first wedding, (even in a registry office,) I would absolutely wear a white 'wedding dress.'

A neighbour of mine (aged 27) got married for the first time in April. In the registry office. Her dress was like this white wedding dress (pic 1.) Should she have got married in a dress like the one in pic 2, because it's not a big 'Church' wedding?

Check out phase 8. They have lovely wedding outfits. I love this wedding jumpsuit.

Wartywart · 31/05/2022 16:15

Wear white! I did - in a similarly small wedding. How about this dress from Mango:

I would of been super offended if anyone had suggested couldn’t wear white for a registry office wedding, why on earth not???

PinkWisteria · 31/05/2022 16:18

Have a look at Chi Chi - they do offer a bridal range but also some lovely less formal dresses - affordable too.

Wartywart · 31/05/2022 16:19

No, not that one, sorry - this one (can't get the link right):

What do you want to wear?

You can turn up in whatever you fancy as long as you're happy with it.

motogirl · 31/05/2022 16:36

White is fine but personally I would opt for no longer than mid calf. Do go for dinner afterwards though, don't miss out it's still your wedding

Maxineputyourredshoeson1 · 31/05/2022 16:44

When we got married in a smallish ceremony - 23 including us and DD1 I wore a full on wedding dress, and almost 13yrs later I’m glad I did. I absolutely adored my dress (still do) and I’m so glad that I decided to wear what I wanted.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 31/05/2022 18:26

I wore white in a registry office but we did have quite a few guests plus party and everything. Wear what you want to wear though.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/05/2022 18:45

I wore an enormous bridal white frock for my registry office wedding

A580Hojas · 31/05/2022 18:50

I think unless you are actually a virgin a white wedding dress is very dated and old fashioned. But I think I'm in a tiny minority. Personally I hate them and the whole "fairy tale" romance idea surrounding weddings.
