Second toe longer than big toe

Not an AIBU but wanted to see poll results plus it’s a Sunday evening and I’m bored…

My second toe is notably longer than my big toe.

It’s called a Morton’s toe its recorded prevalence varies in different populations, with estimates from 2.95% to 22%.

Doesn’t really bother me but none of my friends have it so was wondering if any MNers have it. I seem to have inherited it from my father and apparently it is more common in men.

It is supposedly associated with naturally athletic people, which fits with me but definitely not my father!

So, is your second toe longer than your big toe? (YABU - No, YANBU - Yes).

Surely everyone can pick up things with their toes?

Thestoppedfan · 29/05/2022 21:51

Yes I do and my third ones are too. I’m fairly athletic but always have a black nail or a missing one because I am so clumsy (lost count of how many times I have broken toes too!).

I constantly have a bruised or missing toenails too - I suspect because it's impossible to find shoes that fit me and don't give me blisters because my other toes are sliding all over the place!

JemimaPuddlegoose · 29/05/2022 21:57

Yes, mine are, though weirdly my second toe on my right foot is very very substantially longer than my right big toe, while my second toe on my left foot is only fractionally longer.

taylorsdoinapart · 29/05/2022 21:59

Yes me, and all three of my DC

TenoringBehind · 29/05/2022 22:04

Dh has this. He is not and has never been athletic.

I understand that Bill Oddie has such toes too.

Lalliella · 29/05/2022 22:09

DS’s third toe is the longest! Weird huh?

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2022 22:10

HardStareBear · 29/05/2022 20:27

Yes. And I'm about as athletic as a bag of tatties.

Only on my right foot.
It's a pain in the ass buying shoes because of this since my right shoe has to be a bit bigger than my left. When I was a child, my parents had to buy specially made shoes to accommodate this and it made me feel like a freak.

As for being athletic, that would be great if it were true. I get winded getting off the couch.

MercyChant66 · 29/05/2022 22:17

Yes, longer second toe on both feet and I've given this to my daughter too.

MercyChant66 · 29/05/2022 22:19

It can be tricky buying wellies as the second toe rams up against the rubber and is painful!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 29/05/2022 22:20

@Galaxyheart i was just about to write exactly the same first sentence. I have no idea what my siblings toes look like but might now ask them to send a photo.

Yup, very long second toe on both feet. I do run, but then, so do hippos, so I’m not sure I’d class myself as ‘athletic’.

I pick things up with my feet without thinking. I’ll never forget DH’s face the first time he saw me pick my knickers up with my foot and drop them in the laundry basket. I thought it was normal until that point 😂

Yes I can spread toes and pick things up. So can many of my family.

polarisation · 29/05/2022 22:21

Remembered a diagram like this (hopefully the picture has worked) from when I used to do ballet. I think I'm more Roman than Greek, but my 2nd toe is slightly longer than my 1st and 3rd.

Second toe longer than big toe
Aprilx · 29/05/2022 22:22

DH and I both have longer second toes than big toes. I am not even vaguely athletic, he is, or was rather, slightly athletic.

AMindNeedsBooks · 29/05/2022 22:23

Yep...but I am certainly not athletic! Annoys me because if they were 'normal' sized my shoe size would be smaller!

oviraptor21 · 29/05/2022 22:24

Definitely Greek here.

This is the same for me!

FredaFox · 29/05/2022 22:25

Yes on both feet, I was told it's a Viking thing called Nordic toe and being a redhead I thought it made sense 😂

SchoolThing · 29/05/2022 22:28

I interviewed a tow reader once and was informed that a long second toe means ambition. Since then I have noticed lots of celebrities have long second toes.

Goatinthegarden · 29/05/2022 22:31

My second toes are longer. I keep very fit and active, but don’t think I’m a ‘natural athlete’.

My feet are incredibly dexterous though.

Fleamaker123 · 29/05/2022 22:33

I've found my people 😂

My second and third toes are both longer than my big toe. Inherited on my mum's side of the family. Summer footwear is a nightmare. Never wear open toe sandals.

And if I don't pick my feet up properly when I walk, sometimes my second long toe drags on the floor.

Dubbin · 29/05/2022 22:35

Yes, ‘Greek toe’ on both feet, and toes generally long and thin. I’m a runner, so I suppose athletic! Can be tricky finding footwear 🤪

oviraptor21 · 29/05/2022 21:48

Surely everyone can pick up things with their toes?

Depends on whether you have really tiny toes.

SoggyPaper · 29/05/2022 22:42

How does it make wearing pointy shoes harder though? Surely the more diamond shape of the toes would make it easier.
