Second toe longer than big toe

Not an AIBU but wanted to see poll results plus it’s a Sunday evening and I’m bored…

My second toe is notably longer than my big toe.

It’s called a Morton’s toe its recorded prevalence varies in different populations, with estimates from 2.95% to 22%.

Doesn’t really bother me but none of my friends have it so was wondering if any MNers have it. I seem to have inherited it from my father and apparently it is more common in men.

It is supposedly associated with naturally athletic people, which fits with me but definitely not my father!

So, is your second toe longer than your big toe? (YABU - No, YANBU - Yes).

My dhs family on his mums side and both of our kids do. They are very dexterous too. They pick things up with their big toe and the longer toe.

SingleHandSue · 29/05/2022 21:09

DS1 has this too and is quite athletic. He inherited it from his grandad on DH’s side.

DS can also use his ‘monkey feet’ to pick up anything and everything. The biggest and heaviest he managed was an old style Sky remote 😆

H1Drangea · 29/05/2022 21:10

Yes , on bothered feet
I have long toes and a short first ( thumb ? ) toe
Not athletic , not athletic at all
It also makes buying strappy sandals a nightmare as little toes get caught in the straps and long toes fall off the front

H1Drangea · 29/05/2022 21:12

OFGS ! Both feet , not bothered feet

ItWasntMyFault · 29/05/2022 21:18

Yes, but only on one foot. I'm definitely not athletic.

Nottogetapenny · 29/05/2022 21:19

Mine is too! I can’t wear Birkinstocks, because my second toes goes over the ridge at the front on these sandals!

Skinterior · 29/05/2022 21:20

I have Morton's toe too. It was considered very attractive by the ancient Greeks and Romans. If you got to Athens most of the statues from that period have longer second toes (which you'd only ever notice if you have them too)

However I'm sure it makes them easier to stub

ShirleyJackson · 29/05/2022 21:22

Yup, very long second toe on both feet. I do run, but then, so do hippos, so I’m not sure I’d class myself as ‘athletic’.

I pick things up with my feet without thinking. I’ll never forget DH’s face the first time he saw me pick my knickers up with my foot and drop them in the laundry basket. I thought it was normal until that point 😂

Theala · 29/05/2022 21:23

Yes, and on both feet too. Looking at my feet too much freaks me out slightly. I have a normal size big toe and little toe, and then three freakishly long toes in the middle that look more like fingers.
I am really excellent at climbing trees, though, so maybe PP who mentioned us being "closer to our ancestors" is correct. 😄

TheJubileeLion · 29/05/2022 21:25

Me, on both feet. I always wondered if it was because my mum was a committed wearer of high, pointy stilettos from a very early age and had somehow genetically engineered me for court shoes.

Dh can't cope with the way I can flex and separate my toes. Again, I thought this was normal.

Incidentally, if anyone else has hyper mobile feet, it may explain any ankle injuries and why your feet get so sweaty. Everything's moving too much in your foot. Or so my podiatrist told me.

tineys · 29/05/2022 21:27

Yep, and even more embarrassingly, my third toe is too Blush I remember watching the film Shallow Hal (where his friend dumps his gf because of her too long toe) and I've had a complex about it ever since haha

SevernEleven · 29/05/2022 21:29

Second and third toes are both about 1cm longer than big toe. I can't wear peep toe shoes as it just looks weird.

Thereyougo10 · 29/05/2022 21:30

Same, on both feet!!

SoggyPaper · 29/05/2022 21:31

TheOriginalEmu · 29/05/2022 20:29

No, but all of my toes are stupidly small and I’ve always blamed my ridiculous clumsiness on them. They’re not long enough to hold me up 😂😂

I have tiny toes too. Small feet but still teeny tiny toes.

Galaxyheart · 29/05/2022 21:32

I have it on both feet my DH calls them my finger toes , I get it from my Dad and so do my siblings

TitInATrance · 29/05/2022 21:33

Yes, on both feet. My big toe isn’t that much shorter but I’ve never been able to wear pointy shoes. I developed a huge bunion in middle age nonetheless, and I think the shape of my feet (big toes joint below the level of the others) might have contributed to that.

ClinkeyMonkey · 29/05/2022 21:36

Just had a look! My second toe is longer on my left foot, but the same size as big toe on my right foot.

20viona · 29/05/2022 21:37

Yes

waitingpatientlyforspring · 29/05/2022 21:37

Yes mine are, I got it from my mum and we are both as far from athletic as it's possible to be 😂

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 29/05/2022 21:38

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/05/2022 20:43

I reckon mostly people whose second toe is longer are going to click on the link, so you’ll get a misleading poll 😁

Ssshhh. I was hoping to use this as a snapshot of how misleading survey responses can be. 🤓

OneCup · 29/05/2022 21:40

No but I can still pick things up with my toes. I didn't realise one precluded the other? Didn't realise either both feet could be different!

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 29/05/2022 21:42

I have this and so has my dd. Never liked my feet as a result. And I am about as athletic as Johnny Vegas!

Seedoftime · 29/05/2022 21:43

I have it. I run, but I'm not athletic. Same. 'Tis clearly an icon of beauty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(Michelangelo) Grin

oviraptor21 · 29/05/2022 21:45

Yes. Noticeably so on one foot where the third toe is also longer.
Less noticeably on the other foot and third toe is about the same as the big toe.
Yes, it's probably fair to say I'm athletic.
