DH and the pressure washer...

Last night we had a rare child free night so I planned on having a long lie this morning because I can't remember the last time I did. DH is very much a morning person and will be up at 6am regardless to wether he has work or not but I assumed he'd just quietly take himself downstairs and watch tv or something.
8am comes and I'm woken to the sound of DH washing his car on the drive with the pressure washer. I am FUMING and the neighbours must also be, so I got up and went down to ask what the fuck he was doing. Apparently iabu to even question him as I "shouldn't just be laying in bed all day anyway". He wanted to get it done before the kids get home which I get but washing your car at 8am on a weekend is a nope surely!?

Yes, I’d be pissed off with him too.

Antarcticant · 28/05/2022 09:26

I'd be pleased mine was up before me (rare) and doing something useful!

FAQs · 28/05/2022 09:28

8am on a Saturday isn’t unreasonable.

WouldBeGood · 28/05/2022 09:29

Are you my neighbours? 😃 I’ve just been ranting about the early morning pressure washing here.

He's being unreasonable.

FullBush · 28/05/2022 09:29

Tedious bellend.

Clarich007 · 28/05/2022 09:31

I would feel lucky that mine was washing it, instead of me.

You would feel lucky that your husband was washing his own car, instead of you? What?

Ifailed · 28/05/2022 09:39

What's the problem, 8am is a perfectly normal time to do household chores?

WouldBeGood · 28/05/2022 09:40

Not noisy household chores on a weekend, it’s not.

Fairislefandango · 28/05/2022 09:48

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest tbh.

Tithebarnacle · 28/05/2022 09:57

I don't think you should do those noisy things before 9am on the weekend.

Mydogisagentleman · 28/05/2022 09:58

Wouldn’t be bothered.
my DH has only been up for an hour or so, I was downstairs at 6am

Hugasauras · 28/05/2022 10:15

A lot of people on MN think that 8am is far too much of a lie-in and no one can possibly be asleep after then Grin

I think noisy pressure-washing at that time on a weekend morning is a bit shitty, no one does that round here (and we have a lot of people who love their pressure-washing).

Cranefliesthinkthecarroofiswater · 28/05/2022 10:23

Are you my next door neighbour, OP? The guy next door to us is known to jet wash for up to eight hours a day some weekends and it drives me crazy. Sometimes he'll be jet washing for the entire day on both Saturday and Sunday and only stops when it gets too dark to see.

Blondebakingmumma · 28/05/2022 10:26

I think 8am is reasonable time for noise on the weekend. Any earlier would be rude

Glitterspy · 28/05/2022 10:28

Why didn’t he want to be in bed with you instead??!

Why? Can't you wash yourself? Wink

Blaze1886 · 28/05/2022 10:40

Do you live next door to my dad?

His neighbour is always doing something outside really noisy. Ten hours jet washing the block paving recently. He even uses a petrol hedge cutter to trim a 3 metre wide hedge

I'd say 9:00am onwards is okay but 8:00am is quite early

Yourearealboy · 28/05/2022 15:00

I’m an early bird, up at 6am regardless, but that would even piss me off & I’d feel sorry for any neighbours trying to have a lie in.
Our neighbour started his up at 9am the other weekend &, even though I’d been up for hours, I still think a jet wash can be too noisy for a quiet weekend morning.

What kinda new creepy stuff is this? 😂😂😂

girlmom21 · 28/05/2022 15:43

I think it's fine.

If he'd have clattered around emptying the dishwasher you'd have been pissed. Vacuuming? Pissed. Shower? Pissed. Washing and tumble dryer? Pissed.

Cranefliesthinkthecarroofiswater · 28/05/2022 15:49

I think it's fine.

Good for you, but not everyone reacts to noise in the same way.

Bit defensive bab.
I have extreme sensitivity to certain noise, as it happens.
Doesn't mean I'm not entitled to an opinion if it's different to yours Grin

8 isn't horrendous in general, but seeing as he knew you were fast asleep, he's a bit thoughtless for doing something so obviously noisy!
