DH and the pressure washer...

Last night we had a rare child free night so I planned on having a long lie this morning because I can't remember the last time I did. DH is very much a morning person and will be up at 6am regardless to wether he has work or not but I assumed he'd just quietly take himself downstairs and watch tv or something.
8am comes and I'm woken to the sound of DH washing his car on the drive with the pressure washer. I am FUMING and the neighbours must also be, so I got up and went down to ask what the fuck he was doing. Apparently iabu to even question him as I "shouldn't just be laying in bed all day anyway". He wanted to get it done before the kids get home which I get but washing your car at 8am on a weekend is a nope surely!?

It's not something I'd do myself, but I wouldn't have a problem with DH or the neighbour get washing their car at 8am at the weekend. If ppl choose to live close together then there will be noise.

Sewaccidentprone · 28/05/2022 16:04

And this is why I now wear ear plugs for sleeping!

NrlySp · 28/05/2022 16:08

Ear plugs are the answer.

Cherrysoup · 28/05/2022 16:15

Mine would creep round so as not to disturb me. 8am is way too early, IMO. I’d be angry at the neighbours if they did that.

CharlotteSt · 28/05/2022 16:20

We used to have a neighbour, known as Psycho Water Man who would jetwash anything that moved from 7am on a Saturday morning.

One of his many vehicles (and bikes) was a plain matt silver Land Rover. We joked that he must have jetwashed all the paint off it.

Tosser.

@girlmom21 - Bit defensive bab.

Indeed, noise is very triggering for me. It can make me want to drive an army to London and burn it to the ground, à la Boudicca

MarvellousMay · 28/05/2022 16:58

Tedious bellend
This.

Me too, surprisingly, although it's noise in close proximity that infuriates me

For me, it's noise I can't get away from. It makes me feel panicky. Power tools drive me crazy. Start up a chainsaw or a leaf blower and I get instant Boudicca. Jet washers aren't quite as bad, but they're still up there.

Pmsl at the ad on this thread 😂

8am is too early. If its anything like our pressure washer, it's noisy!! I feel guilty using it in the middle of the day!

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/05/2022 17:44

Thanks think he was trying to annoy you OP. It is a reasonable thing to do but he knew you'd be annoyed.

We always get our food shop delivered between 8 and 9 am on a Saturday. Our CF neighbors complained it woke them up and could we move the time. I

Are you my next door neighbour, OP? The guy next door to us is known to jet wash for up to eight hours a day some weekends and it drives me crazy. Sometimes he'll be jet washing for the entire day on both Saturday and Sunday and only stops when it gets too dark to see.

That’s were my ex neighbour moved to! @Cranefliesthinkthecarroofiswater There can’t be two of them like that, surely?
He spent the morning of his wedding jet washing his car. No, it wasn’t used for the wedding.

fossilsmorefossils · 28/05/2022 18:04

I never make noise before 10 AM. I'm
up early due to having a toddler but for some reason I think that 10 AM is reasonable enough time to make noise that the neighbours can hear. I can't explain why though...

Darbs76 · 28/05/2022 18:06

I get up at 5-6am but wouldn’t be out making a noise on weekends before 9. Some people like a lie in, me included 5yrs plus ago. Just can’t sleep in these days

Same. 10am is my time also before we make any noise that can wait. Also I don't know why I have 10am as the magic time noise is allowed after. And I am up at seven.

XingMing · 28/05/2022 20:44

Before 0900 at the weekend is uncivilized behaviour, IMO.

XingMing · 28/05/2022 20:48

1000 on a Sunday!

Delinathe · 28/05/2022 20:51

In my world no noise before 11 am at weekends is civilised.

9 am is the minimum for good manners. Some people work late on a Fri. They deserve some peace too.

AlisonDonut · 28/05/2022 20:52

My old neighbour Bob used to do this. But the patio slabs. 6 ft under my bedroom window. Every fortnight. One my one day off. They never ever got dirty in the first place because there were zero plants and he would spend all day getting drunk in the shed. Hardly every used the garden.

So we moved. Countries. Twat.

ATadConfused · 28/05/2022 21:01

I'm always awake stupidly early 4:44 currently!

a neighbour jet washing their car at 8 am woukdnt bother me, but the inconsiderate dog walkers shouting out to each other across the road winds me up no end! & ther other thing that really kisses me off is people sitting idling their cars.

Your inconsiderate OAF of a husband is horrible though! One chance at a child free lay in & HE ruins it!! Then accuses you of sleeping in ALL DAY. TWAT.

I am awake stupidly early, but I'm as quiet as a field mouse & never make anyone feel guilty for actually getting some sleep!!

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 28/05/2022 21:03

If the job needs doing and is being done by an early riser, so be it.
I'd be annoyed by the noise but I'd probably put the radio on , to mask the noise, and snooze.

Your neighbours might be a bit grumpy though.

Cas112 · 28/05/2022 21:14

8am is stupid for a weekend, does he have no respect for your neighbours. He should have tried to wait till least 9, half 9. 10am would be kind to people wanting a lie in

BigOldBlobber · 28/05/2022 21:30

Tbh hard to say as 8am would be my maximum lie in (and chance would be a fine thing 😂) as I hate wasting the earliest part of the day.
Also I'd be buzzing if DH started doing more jobs of his own accord.
8 am isn't too bad, 8.30/9 would've been a bit more considerate

allboysherebutme · 28/05/2022 23:31

I don't think you should do noisy jobs like that until at least 10 on the weekend not fair on the neighbours. X
