I’ve stupidly accepted 2 jobs - Help deciding please 🙏🏻

Ok so I know I’m being unreasonable but I need an outside perspective on which job I should actually go through with.

Job A - 40-50 min drive, £26k, 4 days a week working 8.30-5; with 1 day WFH.

Job B - 5 min drive/15 minute walk, £27.5k, 4 long days working 8-6 OR 5 normal days working 9-5 where I could fit the morning school run in.

Job A is my preferred choice in terms of job satisfaction, client group, and the team I’d be working with.

But Job B is obviously more convenient in terms of juggling childcare and involves less travel/fuel costs etc.

Help me decide please?

I think job B sounds like the best option long-term

Excited101 · 26/05/2022 13:10

B

Choufleurfromage · 26/05/2022 13:12

Why accept 2 jobs? Very unfair on one employer who will have to through recruitmeny shit again

ModerationInEverything · 26/05/2022 13:14

Job B. Commuting is getting more expensive every day.

Sidhdbej · 26/05/2022 13:17

Personally I would want to do 4 long days for more money because essentially job A and B will take the same amount of time out of your day if you factor in commuting to A

DDivaStar · 26/05/2022 13:20

Job B.

Being in a good team etc is all very well but the convenience of B is hard to match. You also never know what a work environment is like til you're actually there, A could not be as good as it appears.

Astralis · 26/05/2022 13:20

Job A.
You think you'll enjoy it more.
Your hourly rate at job B is lower.

orwellwasright · 26/05/2022 13:21

Commuting is soul destroying.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 26/05/2022 13:23

Job B. It is less pay and also currently massive commuter costs. Increased car wear and tear but also the cost of daily running the car. Also the commute time is lost Time:

Stokey · 26/05/2022 13:26

How old are the children? Have you got existing childcare? Is there a partner that can pick up the slack?

I'd be tempted by the job you're more interested in. The commute is 3 times a week as you have one day wfh and one day off where you can do school run, it sounds more flexible. They may allow a second wfh day once you start or you could ask before you start as a bargaining chip?

bananaskinny · 26/05/2022 13:28

B- I work an hour away from home and would do anything to be closer for nursery pickups/drop offs, etc. plus you'll be saving money on petrol, etc.

Snowflakes1122 · 26/05/2022 13:28

This. Plus it is very unfair on other candidates to reserve both jobs whilst you mull over it.

Snowflakes1122 · 26/05/2022 13:29

Was trying to quote Choufleurfromage there. #fail 😆

girlmom21 · 26/05/2022 13:29

Job B. Do anything you can to avoid the commute.

Randomness12 · 26/05/2022 13:31

Job B without a doubt on the 4 long day option. Commuting is soul destroying, I will never return to it. You’ll have a “spare” day, earn more and get home earlier.

I’d also ask if they could be flexible and let you do 4 long days most of the time but then perhaps the 9-5 over 5 days on the first week of term or so depending on how old your kids are etc. Flexibility is a VERY valuable benefit and they are already demonstrating that 😊

I agree. Massively unfair. Job B everytime. If there is an emergency at home you will be on the door step. Ditto in bad weather as you can walk to work if needs be

KarrotKake · 26/05/2022 13:44

Is job A (4 days commute plus 1 wfh) or (3 days commute plus 1wfh).

If A is a 3 day of commute, I'd do that. If A is over 5 days, I'd do B with the 4 long day option.

redheadmary · 26/05/2022 13:45

B

tokyotea · 26/05/2022 13:46

B

Isabella83 · 26/05/2022 13:48

A is 4 day commuting and 1 day WFH

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/05/2022 13:48

B is for Bleeding obvious choice!

Isabella83 · 26/05/2022 13:48

It may seem obvious but this is my first job post qualifying and it’s important to me that I get it right

I'm sure whichever employer has to recruit all over again will be really sympathetic to that.

Your behaviour is disgraceful.
