To not leave a review for my noisy trip?

Badgirlgonegood · 23/05/2022 20:14

I treated myself to a mini break alone a couple of weeks ago, it was a private rental in a city that I am unfamiliar with.

The listing stated that the apartment was on the high street so noise was to be expected in the EVENING.

This had me imagining restaurants and bars that close around 11-12 at the latest at a push.

It was above a NIGHTCLUB that closed at 2. I could feel the bass vibrating on my single glazed windows, everyone yelling outside smoking and music blasting in my bedroom. Even with ear plugs.

I had a terrible 2 nights sleep.
Apart from that the apartment was incredible but if I had known bed time would have been post 2 am and not much sleep after that I wouldn’t have booked it. My neighbours were also really loud but that’s not the hosts fault.

I decided I wouldn’t write a review because I’d have to be honest that I feel the host underplayed the noise but cba to be negative.

She is now asking me to leave a review but I’d rather just forget about it.
It was not a cheap option either and quite a luxurious listing if that makes a difference.

What would you do?

P.S I did used to be fun honest.

I would leave the honest review.

Ask her if she is joking?

But seriously, I would have complained.

cansu · 23/05/2022 20:17

Just write a factual review saying the appartment was nice but that the noise went on late into the early hours.

Amoozbooze · 23/05/2022 20:18

Write an honest review, it will help other travellers. Say how nice the place was and all the good points about the apartment and the host but there was a nightclub underneath so the noise was later than you had anticipated.

TheHaka · 23/05/2022 20:18

Write a review, it will save others having to go through this.

Fairyliz · 23/05/2022 20:18

I would leave an honest but factual review. So mention the good points, location/size/decor/furnishings? But also say it was above a nightclub that didn’t shut until 2 so not suitable for visitors who like an early night.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 23/05/2022 20:19

I would leave an honest review - people can make their own mind up if they want to stay in a place where the bass shakes the windows until 2am. It doesn't have to be "negative" but it can be truthful.

tkwal · 23/05/2022 20:19

I would give her a synopsis of the review you would leave if she insists and ask if she still wants you to post it 😏

I did consider complaining, I can’t even describe how loud it was, it was a beautiful old building so no double glazing which is don’t know about. I could hear all the conversations of the smokers and every song louder than my own music would have been. I was bloody knackered on my return home and the point was for me to have a break so a bit gutted I spent the money really.

As others have said, send her the review you would submit and ask if she wants it to be submitted.

Who like an early night? So is 2am a normal time to retire then?

JemimaTiggywinkle · 23/05/2022 20:25

Agree with pp. I don’t understand why you don’t want to leave a review, which includes the very important fact it’s above a nightclub.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 23/05/2022 20:26

Write the review and save other people from the same bad experience. Why wouldn't you??

FictionalCharacter · 23/05/2022 20:27

Not sure what the AIBU is, but please leave an honest review so other people can avoid this awful place.

Badgirlgonegood · 23/05/2022 20:35

Thanks all I think you are right, I should leave the review. I can say so many nice things about the apartment itself.

I am a bit of a worrier so thought I should just forget it but actually you’re right, I don’t want someone else to be in the same situation and this could save them the bother.

Blinkingheckythump · 23/05/2022 20:43

Why wouldn't you have left a review in the first place, surely you want others to not have to experience that unknowingly

Vikinga · 23/05/2022 20:45

Leave an honest review - the good and the bad!

Badgirlgonegood · 23/05/2022 20:54

I think I felt bad because they have done so many nice finishing touches to make the place lovely.

I also thought maybe I was being naive about the evening noise description but evening is very different to early hours of the morning.

I had this recently. Other reviews mention 'some slight noise' but I wish people were just honest. I would have saved me a lot of grief.

It was above a motorway and insanely loud 24/7. I barely got any sleep

I left in the review that I needed air plugs to sleep at night.

EileenGC · 23/05/2022 21:04

Definitely leave a review - mention all the positives but be honest about the noise.

I travel a lot and sometimes need to be in bed by 8pm. Other times I get back at 3/4am as we can finish very late, so depending on the trip a warning about the noise won't put me off booking. I would actually prefer that option sometimes.

Maurepas · 23/05/2022 21:14

Just say '' no ear plugs were supplied so bring your own''.

Dearmariacountmein · 23/05/2022 21:21

I’d leave a positive review that mentions the nightclub I.e
3 stars
Apartment was really beautiful and comfortable and is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the city late at night. Not really the place for those who want an early night as the night club and outside noise go on well into the early hours including bass felt in the apartment. It’s clear it’s priced to reflect that (hence giving 3 not 1 star)but the listing should really make it clear how late/ early the noise goes on to and just how loud it is in the apartment.

ScruffGin · 23/05/2022 21:35

Please leave an honest review, I'd be so upset to end up there for a restful break! Maybe some people who will be partying until 2am won't mind!

girlmom21 · 23/05/2022 21:48

If someone else had left an honest review would you have stayed? Save someone else from a crap night.

Pootle40 · 23/05/2022 21:51

It's not like you'll ever see/meet the host again. Be honest and save other people the pain. That's my idea of absolute hell.
