Would you be pleased to get this?

Or annoyed because it's below inflation?

Accepting because money doesn't grow on trees and something is better than nothing?

Would the type of employer make any difference? (Ie if it was in a struggling industry or not-for-profit where funds were tight vs a big profitable company?)

Just curious about people's views, and wondering what the "average" increase has been for people in recent months.

Sorry, didn't mean to enable voting, but since I have, voting is as follows:

YABU would be glad of any pay rise right now
YANBU 5% would be an insult when inflation is heading towards 10%.

It's more than I would have expected (in my industry, etc)
The union often strikes & achieves nothing.
March announcement was 1.5% increase this year.

Thursday37 · 21/05/2022 15:32

We’re (probably) getting 3%, it’s ok but not enough. I’m in HE.

Ilikewinter · 21/05/2022 15:33

Well its better than the 2% im getting and realistically employers aren't going to be giving 10% pay rises so Id accept the 5%

Motnight · 21/05/2022 15:34

For me it's would be a really good payrise.

Themidnightpig · 21/05/2022 15:34

As a civil servant I'd be utterly delighted 😆unlikely though, I'll get 1% if I'm lucky but likely nothing again.

KatherineofGaunt · 21/05/2022 15:34

I'd love 5%. I doubt I'll get anything over 1-1.5%, so it's definitely a case of taking whatever I can get.

NoSquirrels · 21/05/2022 15:35

Think I’m getting fuck all, so 5% would be delightful, frankly.

I'm public sector and am likely to get 1.8% if I'm lucky, so I'd be massively pleased with 5%

Floralnomad · 21/05/2022 15:38

If it’s 5% or get nothing I’d be pleased with the 5% - not everyone gets a pay rise .

Mumwantingtogetitright · 21/05/2022 15:38

Thanks, really interesting responses so far.

I'm getting 2% so qould be delighted with 5%.

The thing to remember is your employer is not obliged to give you a payrise so I Don see why you would be insulted to get one, even if you consider it too small.

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 21/05/2022 15:40

I'm fairly happy with the 5-ish percent I'm getting. It was announced in February though before we knew how bad things were going to get. I also work in the charity sector so much more would be seen to take the piss.

Abra1d1 · 21/05/2022 15:41

I’d be delighted.

Muuuuuuuum · 21/05/2022 15:43

Ours hasn't been announced yet but I will be amazed if it is over 2.5%

Would be thrilled with 5%

Canyouengineerfreespeech · 21/05/2022 15:44

I think it depends on how sought after your skill set is and how easy it would be to move to a better paying job you want.

Public sector offer for 2022 is an average of up to 2% - so compared with that it is pretty good.

HobnobsChoice · 21/05/2022 15:47

I think we are in line for 1.5%. I've never had an increase over about 1.8% so 5% would have me delighted

ATadConfused · 21/05/2022 15:50

It's 5% more than I'll be getting. It's 5% more than I've had in the past 8 years.

it wouldn't make a huge difference though 5%, but better than nothing I suppose.

my job is rather unusual outside of London & I'd need much more money to move back there, so it's not easy to change jobs.

watchingrnfire · 21/05/2022 15:50

We'll be getting either 3% or 5% depending on our level of work. My managers told me I'll be on the 5%, I suppose it's better than nothing, and definitely better than the 3%
With the cost of living, I really don't think it's enough though

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 21/05/2022 15:50

I got 5 percent and was really pleased.
I was expecting 2 percent.
The company gave everyone 5 percent and said that although it wasn't enough to match the rising costs of everything. They hope it would help everyone though this tough time.
Everyone was pleased with the pay rise

Snowdropsarelovely · 21/05/2022 15:57

I'd be delighted !

MatildaJayne · 21/05/2022 15:58

I recently got 1.75%, local govt. Net increase was £10 a month. 🙄 5% would be a bit better than that. Whoopee do, nearly £30!

Madmog · 21/05/2022 15:59

Have to admit I was very pleased to get 5.5%, especially as we've had three lots of redundancies since lockdown and sales haven't got back to their pre-covid levels. We have two other jobs between us and not getting a pay rise so that makes it even better - just a shame the above is my small one day a week job!

Candleabra · 21/05/2022 15:59

I’d be delighted. Civil servant and no pay rise since 2019. Also unlikely this year.
