Costa - aibu to this their deal is unclear

Went to cost this morning it's said on the board £1 or £2 breakfast deal. I thought oh great ill have that, I've had it before at a different drive thru Costa. Last time I got the sausage bap and large drink for £2 and thought wow that's such a good deal.
Anyway today get to the front ask for the £1 breakfast deal. They put it through and say £5 whatever please. I questioned it and said but I thought it was £1. The woman was rude and said no it's this amount. I then told her that another Costa location had done me the £2 deal. She scoffed and said what Costa? No way, there no way that would have happened, definitely not.

So basically called me a liar. All I could say was I'm not lying. If that's what she's saying it cost then fine ok but I don't appreciate being called a liar.

I just don't understand how 1 Costa is doing 1 thing and another isn't. Also the boards aren't clear. It is not a 1 or 2 pound breakfast deal if the total cost equates to 5 or 6 pound in the end. Very misleading.

Who's unreasonable?

Is it that the breakfast item is £1 or £2 with a drink?

Cheeseandbiscuits2 · 18/05/2022 10:53

Went to Costa* that should read

She is for being so bloody rude. However, they are franchises and do have different prices depending on whether they are independent franchises or run by an umbrella company. I.E owned by a service station or an independent franchise owner.

She should have known that, explained politely and not been so damn rude to you.

3WildOnes · 18/05/2022 10:54

I think the deal is a breakfast bap for £2 or a pastry for £1 when bought with a full priced drink.

Ducksinthebath · 18/05/2022 10:53

Is it that the breakfast item is £1 or £2 with a drink?

I looked it up online and I think that is the case but not very clear.

I accept if I was wrong but when I told her the other costa had done their deals for 1 or 2 pound with the drink she scoffed and called me a liar.

Also it's confusing if Costas are doing different things

i thought the deal was was the breakfast bap was £2 if you bought a drink as well.....never £2 for both!

Andromachehadabadday · 18/05/2022 10:57

Costas deal, as far as I have always known was you get certain items for £1 or £2 with full prices drink.

the offer is £1/£2 breakfast deal.

I do think the other Costa got it wrong. Where would they make money selling a coffee and food item for £1 or £2, when you take all costs into account.

Pinkdelight3 · 18/05/2022 11:03

I think you got lucky the last time cos someone messed up.

user1471457751 · 18/05/2022 11:06

If you actually got a drink and bap last time for £2 then either somebody made a mistake or it wasn't the standard costa deal

Alexalee · 18/05/2022 11:28

I think you never got a drink and bap for 2 quid, as even when put through the till by a very experienced member of staff the system would not allow it
So yes yabu

myuterusistryingtokillme · 18/05/2022 11:36

Given that the drinks are more than £2 on their own, the person at the other costa was clearly wrong (why would they give you a discount on the drink AND breakfast, that wouldn't make sense)

Doesn't excuse her being rude though

I can assure I actually did! I remember even telling my dad who I saw after about it and said how good it was

Really? Is it because people get confused for the boards?
As I said I accept if I got it wrong but the boards are very confusing too!

The deal is a pastry for £1 or a breakfast bap for £2 when purchased with a medium or large drink. I don’t even know how the previous Costa would have been able to charge you the deal price without putting a drink through alongside the deal item.

It's so misleading. I wish someone would sort out their signage.

Indoctro · 18/05/2022 12:14

I have been caught out with this deal too

It's poor advertising on their part, it definitely makes you think the whole deal is £2

I didn't buy it though , I said no it's ok I don't want it when I found out the correct price.

I think it's on purpose to trick people and many will just buy it as too embarrassed to return it when they realise the real price.

LOliver123 · 18/05/2022 12:16

Whoever give it to you the last time - must have been a new starter and got it completely wrong . A drink on its own is over £2. The offer is the item is £2 when purchased with a drink .

MarvellousMay · 18/05/2022 12:18

Why would it be cheaper to buy a drink and food, then just a drink?
YABU.

You cannot seriously have thought you could get breakfast for £1!

OneTC · 18/05/2022 12:20

Sounds like she was being rude but they run different promotions in different branches depending on what local competition they're trying to quash

To lure you in to trying breakfast

saraclara · 18/05/2022 12:21

The woman was rude, but she was right. I don't know how you got it for £2 in total before, but she's right in saying that shouldn't happen.

OneTC · 18/05/2022 12:21

Like in mine they've got bogof on drinks and allow you to use your free coffees to pay for them. So you can get 4 drinks for 2 vouchers
