To hate toothpaste

ClawedButler · 18/05/2022 09:58

I am aware that bigger things are happening in the world, but for the love of Jesus why are ALL toothpastes so violently minty?

Not one of them is mild. It's like having your mouth assaulted - it burns, it lingers, it's horrible. Have resorted to kids' toothpaste, but I know it's not as good for adult teeth.

Am I a freak? Am I the only one who hates this stuff?

Or if you've found a mild one, PLEASE let me know about it!

Marvis is not cheap but comes in lots of fun flavours:

www.lookfantastic.com/brands/marvis.list

I was given some and it lasted well and seemed good

It doesn't have fluoride in it though

Beachsidesunset · 18/05/2022 11:05

You can get beef and chicken flavour at the pet shop ...

Ducksinthebath · 18/05/2022 11:06

Marvis is so nice.

refreshingseahorse · 18/05/2022 11:23

The Oral B one is kind of aniseed / medicine like (nicer than it sounds).

Mercurial123 · 18/05/2022 11:31

Tom's of Maine. Have been using it forever.

Oldenoughtobedead · 18/05/2022 11:58

I completely agree, I hate the taste of mint. I’d love a lemony toothpaste so I’ll check out some of these recommendations thanks

melodypondisasuperhero · 18/05/2022 12:22

Even the smell of mint makes me gag, I cannot put it anywhere near my mouth. I’ve used kids toothpaste my whole life and the only cavity I’ve ever had was when I was 6 so I don’t think it’s a problem.

I have found though that the non-mint ones seem to be getting rarer and rarer, sainsburys do a good “berry” one but it’s hardly ever in stock so when it is I buy a lot of it 😬

toastofthetown · 18/05/2022 12:31

As long as the toothpaste has enough fluoride in, it doesn’t matter if it’s marketed for children. This one here just as an example has 1450 ppm fluoride in, which is equivalent to adult toothpaste.

Bronzeturtle · 18/05/2022 12:35

Go got my kids a nice watermelon one from boots recently.

TooManyPJs · 18/05/2022 12:35

I use Oranurse. But you can also get childrens toothpaste that contain the same amount of fluoride as adults toothpaste.

I ordered an ultrasound toothbrush from Germany and they sent me some apple flavoured toothpaste with it. It's great, but I've almost run out 😭

What toothbrush did you get and what do you think of it?

moostermum · 18/05/2022 12:57

Same here, can't stand strong mint. I used to use mentadent SR which has been discontinued and was buying for £20+ off eBay.
I've found Colgate exilir (pink one) which is really mild and can get in Tesco.

Two of my DC can't have mint toothpaste-
one uses Oranurse and the other biotene.

There is an ingredient in some that can cause irritations like ulcers, other reactions and some ppl have an allergic reaction so m.ine both use alternatives.

Both can be bought on amazon

bebanjo · 18/05/2022 13:12

My dad is 85, has had 2 teeth knocked out, no other teeth missing or fillings. He has never used toothpaste of any kind.

VeryTrying22 · 18/05/2022 13:14

I’d get your mouth checked if you find it violently strong, and your DD thinks it’s spicy Confused

I can't use mint, it burns. Fairly common

talkingthewalk · 18/05/2022 13:18

Have you tried Euthamoyl OP? It is pink and tastes lovely, not of mint but very clean tasting

Smells a bit like deep heat

AWeekinJanuary · 18/05/2022 13:28

Euthymol doesn’t have fluoride, does it? I use it too, but I shouldn’t really and keep meaning to find an alternative. Also, I don’t think op would like it from her description as it’s very strong, albeit not of mint.

I hate mint (would describe it as a phobia) and finding something non-minty that leaves you with fresh breath is difficult. Colgate did a great (but expensive) citrus one a few years ago, but I haven’t seen it for ages.

I have switched to Biomed Calcimax which I used twice a day and and Biomed gum health which I use once a day and they are the best toothpaste I have ever used.

I have very sensitive teeth and the Calcimax does not cause any pain but after one use my teeth looked like they had been professionally cleaned. I was amazed at the difference.

Inexpensive at only £3 and I bought from Amazon.

It does t taste salty to me but here is the spiel -

•	BIOMED CALCIMAX is salty toothpaste with spirulina, pink clay, thyme essential oil, natural antiseptics
•	Calcium hydroxyapatite and L-Arginine strengthen and restore the dental enamel by reducing tooth sensitivity
•	The complex of deep-water algae extracts (spirulina, laminaria, fucus) and pink clay promote healthy gums
•	Natural antiseptics - extracts of plantain and birch leaf help to soothe the gums and provide a gentle cleansing effect
•

I can honestly say my mouth and teeth haven't felt so clean since I started using this.

Genevieve99 · 18/05/2022 13:35

I'm the same, I can’t stand it! The only toothpaste I can use now is the Oral B pro expert clean mint flavour, it’s much milder than other toothpastes.

wonkylegs · 18/05/2022 14:08

I use corsodyl toothpaste atm which isn't very minty it's quite a mild taste and a bit weird but you get used to it.
Colgate natural extracts range comes in lemon flavour and a coconut and ginger one and a hemp one (not sure what that's like)

talkingthewalk · 18/05/2022 14:31

Whatever you do OP, don't buy that arm and h baking soda one Envy tastes of salty cat wee!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/05/2022 14:37

I use Corsodyl which has an " antiseptic" taste which is mild
