AIBU to hope for a libel trial as entertaining as Vardy v Rooney and an outcome that rivals the Katy Hopkins debacle?

Not going to happen. He's not wrong.

Mayorquimby2 · 15/05/2022 16:55

Good to see other right wing grifters being pulled in to the fray.

Hopefully bankrupt a couple of them and if we're lucky ruin their lives.

We won't be lucky though. It will just set up a further grift to fundraise for legal fees and bang on about woke lefty lawyers trying to censor them.

Imo she’s eloquent, articulate, has a lived experience of poverty and persuaded Asda etc to restore the value brand range and pricing.
He’s a patronising capitalist.

Ive heard the name but didnt know who it was.

I hope she sues him and I hope she wins.

What a miserable person you must be.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 15/05/2022 16:59

Can anyone explain why it is fine and innovative for Monroe to suggest people buy from value ranges and batch cook but disgusting and insensitive when Tories say it.

Dauncets · 15/05/2022 17:00

She does like suing people doesn't she?

Libel has to be untrue.

newnamethanks · 15/05/2022 17:00

He may have "an awful lot of support" for his mistaken and jaundiced opinion. That doesn't make it true. I would have thought you might know that.

I really want to like her but…. Why does she keep claiming she doesn’t have a lot of money? It can’t be true these days. What is that?

Clymene · 15/05/2022 16:53

That’s correct. He’s right isn’t he?

( I can’t stand her but I guess that’s by the by)

HobnobsChoice · 15/05/2022 17:02

Nobody publically knows how much money Jack Monroe makes as they haven't filed their company accounts for a while. Has a good number of people on Patreon though so should be able to provide evidence of what their income is alongside the fees they earned from TV work and partnerships over the last couple of years. But I don't think her last book sold very well so maybe not making that much but certainly not on the poverty line.

Whenthegoatcomesin · 15/05/2022 17:03

She would have got a bloody healthy advance on the book whether it sold well or not.

I think this is my issue with anything like this

If you're the 'wrong' person (and tories are generally wrong in my eyes) then you cant or shouldnt say that people can get better value for money by shopping and cooking differently. Even on here you get shot down for suggesting such a thing

But if you're the 'right' person then people lap it up and its amazing and supportive blah blah blah

To be honest there is something about her that Ive never been able to to find likeable and I dont know why. She has had some good tips sometimes.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/05/2022 17:05

I find her very annoying and I think there's definitely some dishonesty in her backstory, but I can't really understand how his accusation can possibly be true and he is definitely the worse of the two of them.

Fair play to her, but I don't want to hear about it. 😴

Dauncets · 15/05/2022 17:05

Poor people can't afford solicitors' fees for defamation cases.

Tigofigo · 15/05/2022 17:08

Writing books isn't hugely lucrative (unless it's a mega bestseller to be made into a massive film type thing) so I don't think she'll be raking it in from that.

I also haven't seen her do loads with brands, which can be reasonably lucrative for the amount of work it requires but to make big bucks she'd need to be doing several a month.

I don't think she's anywhere near poverty and there is clearly some muddy waters around what's true or not in her back story, but I find it quite believable she doesn't have a fortune, isn't a millionaire etc. And if she DOES have a lot it's off the back of brands and media companies, not off poor people.

Tontostitis · 15/05/2022 17:08

Is it she or he or they or has Jack completely jumped off that unprofitable bandwagon?

ninnynonny · 15/05/2022 17:08

Why has she not sent up a GofundMe but is asking for donations for legal fees, if needed, to her own paypal? That just seems off.

I always like it when the Nasty Party forgets that is meant to be nice and shows its true colours.
And the bonus is that along come some supporters on here to confirm what they are like.

Franklin12 · 15/05/2022 17:09

Monroe isn’t poor.

AllotmentTime · 15/05/2022 17:09

Why can she say it and he can’t…

Because she is drawing on personal experience of poverty to say “it’s shit, here are strategies that may help you”

Whereas he is looking down from a place of spectacular privilege to say “you’re doing it wrong and your poverty is your own fault”.

How people can’t see the difference between those two positions is astonishing to me.

bellac11 · 15/05/2022 17:10

It wont be off 'poor people'

And for the tories to make that comment is laughable, they've done nothing but make the poor poorer and the country poorer overall!!
