AIBU to hope for a libel trial as entertaining as Vardy v Rooney and an outcome that rivals the Katy Hopkins debacle?

What's interesting is how attitudes to her have shifted. On here, a couple of years ago when people started to see through the act, the thread would be gone within seconds. She was untouchable.

@NeverDropYourMooncup exactly! And let's not forget Jamie Oliver back in the day with his "teaching the poor what a potato is" series. Very uncomfortable watching. The whole premise of that series was based on the uneducated spending too much on KFC because they didn't know what to do with mince.

Lee Anderson (as I have said often) is my MP and is a horrific man. He's a disgrace in many ways.

Jack Monroe is a construct. Acts like a petulant teenager when her falsehoods get found out.

No time for either of them, but LA=bad does not JM=good. And LA says if people don't know how to cook it stands to reason they will be poorer= what food banks and Jamie Oliver have said before him.

Sorry that wasn't very well written! I think the difference is that Monroe makes out she's helping the poor when she does nothing of the sort.

This thread was from five months ago so yeah since then I’ve read a lot more around Jack’s background and clearly a lot of her stories are total bollocks and she’s got a good thing going from that.

However I stand by my comparison between her and Anderson- he was blaming poor people, she was at least verbally supporting (whatever motivates her to do so).

Even if you believe 100% that everything JM has ever said and done is a lie, let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Tories have screwed people over way, way, way, way worse. This thread was originally about a Conservative MP claiming that someone else has made money off the backs of the poor. It was “pot calling kettle black” at the time and it’s even more so now!!

No, this thread was originally about Anderson's statement that she has made a living off the backs of the poor.

And yes the tories have absolutely widened the gap between rich and poor. No disagreement from me there.

A reminder of the MP’s comments, in the Guardian’s words:

Last week, the MP for Ashfield in Nottinghamshire provoked anger from opposition MPs and campaigners after stating in the Commons that food banks are unnecessary because the main cause of food poverty is a lack of cooking and budgetary skills.

In the context of that article, it helps to also quote the person in charge of the college that runs the food bank he was talking about.

“It’s a combination,” she said. “To be good with your food you need to be good with your money, and also be able to cook. If you can’t then the food doesn’t go as far as you can get into a very difficult cycle.”

The link between the food bank and the college means that while people referred for assistance receive one-off help without conditions, those getting food over the longer term are asked to take a course, whether in cooking, budgets or job skills.'

So it's not just shoving a box of beans and some packets of instant noodles at people, it's also giving those without the necessary skills the tools to help them get out of the situation wherever possible through education, support, somebody to talk to, free electricity to do some cooking, somebody to help to make sure they don't ruin the food by doing something stupid like running the nutrient dense content of the tin down the sink they're cooking.

And the other side? That's saying it's a waste of time trying to help/it's evil to think of helping to upskill people because they should just give everybody more money and a copy of her book at somebody else's expense

@Nospringchix @AllotmentTime you are joking right? Anderson is a miner's son. He was a miner before he became a politician. Monroe's grandfather left a £1.8m estate when he died ten years ago.

Jack Monroe has never known poverty. It's a cosplay grift

Why can she say it and he can’t…

Because she is drawing on personal experience of poverty to say “it’s shit, here are strategies that may help you”

Whereas he is looking down from a place of spectacular privilege to say “you’re doing it wrong and your poverty is your own fault”.

How people can’t see the difference between those two positions is astonishing to me.

Absolutely this.

About 3/4 years ago I realised there was something up with how she was acting. It was the constant contradictions and dramas that did it for me. There is a narc in the family and so much of her behaviour is the same. The constant need to be in the centre of everything and be very important, whilst also everyone feeling very sorry for them as everything is so very hard for them.

It’s more than obvious if you have followed her for a while she has enough money. That last blog she did about not being able to afford shampoo (whilst getting her haircut at Toni and Guy) is a disgrace.

Well clearly she's not not going to sue the MP, because what the MP said was true.

She vanished from Twitter after people started asking too many questions about her patreon/teemill money.
Well she claimed it was because people were mean about a photo of potatoes, but it was at exactly the same time as lots of questions were being asked

I wonder if the people who donated to this crowdfunded ever got their money back given she's not pursued it after asking for funding?

I'm guessing she wouldn't know exactly who donated what money for what purpose, unless they specifically asked her for a refund It was done via her PayPal account, not through a more 'traditional' crowdfunder page, so it all went into the 'Jack Monroe money for puppies/sideboards/hats/spoons' pot.

I think Martin Daubney also confirmed that he hadn't received any official communication relating to Jack suing them, for all her crowing about it.

I think this thread is in the spirit of Mumsnet. Someone in the public eye is convincing people, who are often in poverty themselves, that they need their donations when they are clearly very financially stable.

I really don't think this is in the spirit...
Perhaps MN just innocently forgot to delete this one...

I don't see why it should be deleted. It's a fair commentary on a public figure.

I honestly think she gets away with murder.
Her stories have more holes than a colander

It certainly is sixoclock and, in the absence of any creative policy in a leadership campaign piling lie upon lie, what else have they got? If you're looking for lying grifters, Tory voters, you could start a lot closer to home.

Or you could do both? The fact that the Tories are liars doesn't excuse or absolve the fact that Jack Monroe is also grifting for everything she's worth.

Interesting to note that this thread was started off the back of Jack gleefully tweeting that she was beginning legal proceedings against Lee Anderson and Laurence Fox, to the point where she actually asked her followers for donations to the cause through her personal PayPal account. And yet, so far, it's been tumbleweed...
