Just listening to my 6 year old beg (once again) to watch Jurassic park (the first original movie)

Is he still too young? Aibu / stupid to say yes?

I'd let him. My nearly 3 year old watched it. She loves dinosaurs.

My DS2 has watched all the Jurassic Parks since he was about 5. He's 8 now and can't wait for the new one to come out so we can go to the pictures. It all depends on the child.

Surprised at people waiting so long to let their DC watch something as innocuous as Jurassic Park. Obviously you know your kids best but it's just a fun film. My dinosaur obsessed DS1 is 23 now and it's remained his favourite film since he was 3!

Flowersandwine47 · 16/05/2022 11:12

it's my favourite film at 32yo. My 7yo has asked to watch it but I know she'll get scared at the high tension parts. My 4yo would absolutely love it but she hasn't yet developed that kind of fear of things

I'd let him, but skip the very first scene where the construction worker gets eaten. The story line still works without it, and all future gory bits are at least in context. There's not actually that much, mostly screaming/ running and nasty bits happen off screen.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 16/05/2022 11:19

I think the first one is OK for younger kids (broadly speaking) because there's enough wonder and joy in it, which kind of balances out the scary bits. Spielberg has always been very good at this.

Some will be fine and some won't be. I'd watch it together and keep the remote close to hand.

EsmeeMerlin · 16/05/2022 11:35

My 8 year old has watched them all and is absolutely fine. I find with him that if he knows it can't happen in real life then he is fine. He knows dinosaurs no longer exist so seeing them on screen doesn't scare him. Yet if he can relate to something or it relates to a real fear he doesn't like it. So he can watch Harry potter, marvel, Jurassic park etc but refuses to watch lion king as he hates the dad dying and it upsets him. Same with Hook when Peter got lost from his mother, absolutely hated it and cried last year.

On what basis do you think kids are more resilient now? Curious as I think in a lot of cases it’s the opposite. For me it would be too much too young.

Applegreenb · 16/05/2022 11:55

My 4 year old has seen them all and obsessed. Completely depends on the child. If they are timid / easy scared I would maybe wait.
