Deliveroo cost

We hardly ever get take away. Mostly for health and kid fussiness reasons.

But just ordered £30 of pizza and paid £42 to Deliveroo.

A few years back everywhere did free delivery within a few miles.

So I don't get why Deliveroo appeals? They charge 5% on top of the food cost plus delivery and then a tip.

It was partly so high because I messed up and had to put 2 deliveries through. But before I would have just called the restaurant and amended the order (tried that but now they can't do it).

But AIBU to not get why Deliveroo has taken off? They charge a lot for a service that used to be free!

If you order direct from a restaurant it's often cheaper. Deliveroo and the like offer restaurants in one place, some that don't usually do deliveries. For me, it's the convenience and the cost I pay for that. My other option is to order direct, go get takeaway myself or use a different platform. Choice is ours as consumers to make and most people know they're paying for the convenience and choose to do so anyway. Very few do it then complain about it on a forum like they were forced to pay unreasonable costs for delivery, but I have seen these sorts of posts occasionally before. ... We always have a choice, and the costs are set out before you pay... Don't use it. Simple really.

Yes, for one year

Generally I cba to walk and pick up food and therefore am happy to pay extra for delivery. Clearly a lot of other people feel the same as they’re doing pretty well!

Order directly from the restaurant - it is almost always cheaper and I find you don't always get their multibuy offers with deliveroo, ubereats, just eat etc
