Should I tell her everyone can see her pics are photoshopped?

Girl I went to school with, not close but vaguely keep in contact and I like her.

When she posts selfies on her Instagram stories you can see the original pic for a second and then it flicks onto the photoshopped version. She’s gorgeous and successful and clever and doesn’t need to do it!

If I can see it, I’m guessing others can. Tbh I used to do it when I was younger / insecure so no judgment but would I BU to message her nicely as an FYI and let her know so she can change the app she’s using? I’d rather know if it were me, but don’t want to make her feel bad.

How can you see the original?

falloutcheer · 21/04/2022 20:42

No
leave it

Shouldi2022 · 21/04/2022 20:43

@CornishGem1975 the original comes up at first and then it changes to the photoshop.

nose smaller, wrinkles gone, teeth white etc. it’s very obvious as it changes.

CornishGem1975 · 21/04/2022 20:44

I don't understand how though? Because she's posted both?

Pyri · 21/04/2022 20:44

Absolutely do not mention it, many many people use filters and photoshop and it’s pretty obvious when you do

TinLeaf · 21/04/2022 20:45

It’s non of your business and you might make her feel like shit

Shouldi2022 · 21/04/2022 20:45

@CornishGem1975 i don’t understand why it does it either.

the story lasts a few seconds - for the first second or so it’s the original pic and then it morphs into the photoshopped one.

CrushedPistachios · 21/04/2022 20:45

Do you think there’s a point she might be doing it deliberately? To illustrate what photoshop can do?

Aquamarine1029 · 21/04/2022 20:45

I can't understand why you'd even think to mention this. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. No good would come from giving your unsolicited opinion.

Shouldi2022 · 21/04/2022 20:46

Ok thanks, IABU.

i don’t mean any harm, like I said I’ve done it before so I’m not judging. I’d just rather know if it was me.

OP posts:
falloutcheer · 21/04/2022 20:47

this is about someone you are “vaguely in contact with”

op, what on earth would make you start a thread and navel gaze about whether you of all people should do this?

Shouldi2022 · 21/04/2022 20:47

@Aquamarine1029 because she clearly doesn’t know it’s happening and like I said, if it was me, id be embarrassed and want to change the app I was using.

OP posts:
Gizacluethen · 21/04/2022 20:48

It sounds like she's doing it deliberately, its not a thing that happens.

I would absolutely tell her 🤷‍♀️ because I’d want to know

CrushedPistachios · 21/04/2022 20:49

Some people enjoy playing around with the enhancement of what filters can do. It seems like she’s being open about it having a filter but still enjoys the visual effect it offers

luxxlisbon · 21/04/2022 20:51

If her story literally shows two different images then she must have uploaded it. There is no way she edited an image and added it to her stories but Instagram somehow also had access to the unedited version and also uploaded it.

ImInStealthMode · 21/04/2022 20:51

I can't see how this is possible unless she's deliberately screen recording while she does it, and posting the video. In which case, she'd obviously know.

Pyri · 21/04/2022 20:52

Also if she’s vain enough to be posting any selfies to IG, let alone edited ones then I really don’t see that anything good could come of you mentioning this

dudsville · 21/04/2022 20:53

This is not a good idea. I vote yabu!

linerforlife · 21/04/2022 20:53

Oh you mean she's using a filter not photoshop! It's normal for the filter to kind of toggle on and off as faces move, and it's acknowledged that people know you're using a filter - it even says the name of the filter in the top right. So mind your business and don't say anything, and she will likely write back yeah it's a filter what's your problem?! Grin

Exactly. The only way I can see what OP is saying is if the story is a video, and she’s using a filter and it’s not recognising her face straight away then going into the filter. This wouldn’t happen on a still image.

It's not clear at all if she's aware of this. She may very well be and thinks it's amusing.

Lu901 · 21/04/2022 21:17

Only time I've had the urge to say something I situation like this is if the person is really Beautiful but as you said uses all these filters and people think it's real. Probably a jealousy/thinking people should not compare to unrealistic expectations of beauty.

Never have said anything because end of the day it's not worth it.

We spend so much time online that this is just the norm people will know it's fake just like you did and as you said you don't really know her. So the people that do will know what she looks like in real life.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 21/04/2022 21:21

Oh goodness - I would be mortified if that happened to me (ie the ‘before’ pictures flashing up, not the pointing out of that to me).

I am a,ways grateful for the kindness of strangers pointing out embarrassing things to me - eg skirt tucked into knickers, toilet roll attached to shoes etc so I would be grateful to know about a dodgy pictures

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 21/04/2022 21:21

Never used it before so not sure how it works. You could try "that looks cool, how do you use that filter?"
