Should I tell her everyone can see her pics are photoshopped?

Girl I went to school with, not close but vaguely keep in contact and I like her.

When she posts selfies on her Instagram stories you can see the original pic for a second and then it flicks onto the photoshopped version. She’s gorgeous and successful and clever and doesn’t need to do it!

If I can see it, I’m guessing others can. Tbh I used to do it when I was younger / insecure so no judgment but would I BU to message her nicely as an FYI and let her know so she can change the app she’s using? I’d rather know if it were me, but don’t want to make her feel bad.

no she 100% doesn’t know she’s doing it.

it’s not a video or filter. It’s photoshop. Her nose shrinks and I know she’s insecure about it and she’s very image conscious so it’s not intentional. I don’t know how or why it’s happening, it must be a glitch or a live photo or something.

I won’t say anything but I hope she notices and changes the app she’s using.

BluKorner · 21/04/2022 21:32

Oh I know exactly what you mean. It’s like a split second of the original before it puts on the filter.

She may not actually know. I wouldn’t say anything though, unless it was a good friend.

MuthaHubbard · 21/04/2022 21:34

There is a tik tok/insta trend of posting a story before and after filter is applied (baby face filter or something I think). Is that what she's doing/done?

Peakypolly · 21/04/2022 21:36

You must know her very well if you know this? I would imagine she was doing quirky stories to show the fakery of photoshop.

I honestly don’t think so. I put a filter on stories from time to time (sparkle, star, that sort of thing), and there’s a very short split second where it’s the original, before the filter is added on. It’s never bothered me because mine are for effect, but I can see it being very possible that she’s using filters and she doesn’t know the original is there briefly.

Fearneyox · 21/04/2022 22:14

I don’t even understand how that is possible?

Electriq · 21/04/2022 22:16

Screen record it happening and send to her, just mention that you wasn't sure if it was intentional but you wanted her to know either way

TheRocketWillFly · 21/04/2022 22:19

Is it like when you use the live function on iPhone when you take photos. Yeah, you’d do her a favour.

sjxoxo · 21/04/2022 22:21

Filters are a normal part of Instagram.. that’s kind of the point- Instagram is not Facebook! It’s a social photo/video app and everyone uses filters.. tbh if someone messaged me to say what your suggesting I would find it a bit hilarious! You’re obviously on insta- are you not using filters? Photoshop is not at all the same thing.. x

RhubarbLeaf · 21/04/2022 22:43

Please tell her! I would want to know.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 21/04/2022 22:45

Myob.

If I was to advise everyone who looked ridiculous that the filters were obvious I'd have a busy day.

I do sometimes snigger privately when there are so many filters they look maybe 20 years younger, cheek bone enhanced, lips, bigger eyes, everyone comments "you look fabulous" when it looks nothing like their real life face.

HappyFlaps · 21/04/2022 22:56

It's an Instagram filter not photoshooting. Instagram must need glitching a bit and showing the non filtered version for a split second.

This is a actual non issue you don't need to tell her anything

TheOriginalEmu · 21/04/2022 23:06

No I wouldn’t say anything, but I don’t think it makes you unreasonable if you did as long as you were tactful.
maybe go with something like ‘hey, I’ve been having some problems for a while with this happening to my photos when I edit them and I can’t work out why, and then I noticed it happening on one of yours, do you know if there’s a glitch with the software?’ Something like that that’s pointing out you’ve seen it but makes it clear you aren’t laughing at her or being mean.

Invisibleandused · 21/04/2022 23:08

I would want to know. So I also vote tell her!

CurlyBurley · 21/04/2022 23:26

I would just tell her.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/04/2022 23:34

Do you know how photoshop works op? Have you used it to edit photos? Because if she's photoshopped a still image and uploaded into IG, there's no way the original image can be 'uncovered'. What you're describing sound like platform-native beauty filters which do toggle on and off slightly depending on movement.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 21/04/2022 23:40

It is a bit delusional changing the face shrinking your nose through an app.

The people who know you are aware of the size shape of your features.

What is the point in fooling yourself and others.

It's no wonder cosmetic surgery companies are ruining young women's facial features.

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/04/2022 03:37

If you go and insist to her that she's using photoshop to edit images and then upload (even if you mean some other separate editing software) the images and isn't aware of this issue.. you are going to look extremely stupid.

Images edited in a separate program cannot do this, as far as insta is concerned, the image uploaded IS the original image, it can't show you the previous version.

But if you upload an image and use insta filters to alter it.. then yes, it can, it 'knows' what the original was and the new version as well - that's whats happening and as it happens a lot, and everyone uses filters - she knows, she doesn't give a shit, you will look a proper tit.

jealousgirl · 22/04/2022 05:57

Hi do you know she doesn't know? Maybe she's showing the difference.

MrsKippling · 24/04/2022 13:48

This happens if you share something from Tiktok onto another app, she could be using a filter from there. It's pretty common. I wouldn't say anything.

Efortyjive · 24/04/2022 13:51

I've seen this happen, she probably hasn't noticed. I'd want to know but at the same time I don't know how you could bring it up without seeming like an arse!
