To ask why threads disappear without explanation?

NETSRIK · 18/04/2022 08:37

Just that. I invest in a thread. It disappears. No reason given. Just gone. Why?

DrSbaitso · 18/04/2022 08:38

There's always a reason given, isn't there?

NETSRIK · 18/04/2022 08:42

Well a thread I was on yesterday has completely vanished with no explanation.

OP posts:
Theimpossiblegirl · 18/04/2022 08:44

I don't always see the reason when using the app but a deleted thread that I've posted on will be on my threads I'm on in the web version. The reason is there when I click it.

It's usually a troll, sometimes 'outing'.

A580Hojas · 18/04/2022 08:45

I've not known this happen before. Which thread was it?

NETSRIK · 18/04/2022 08:51

I'm using the app. I'll have a check using my laptop later. That might be the reason! Thank you.

CounsellorTroi · 18/04/2022 08:55

Ate you sure you didn’t accidentally hit the “Hide this thread” button? I’ve done this before now. Try Google searching the thread title and see if it comes up.

EarringsandLipstick · 18/04/2022 09:03

PPs are correct. If you're on the app, annoyingly, deleted threads disappear with no notification. (You have go to the website to check)

MNHQ are aware but haven't addressed it.

Giggorata · 18/04/2022 09:07

I wish that MN admin were not so quick to do this.
Why not carry on deleting the really bad posts and let the threads stand?
Surely they don’t want a bland forum, with no rows, out there opinions and weird posts?

AllFreeOwls · 18/04/2022 09:15

It's often because the OP is getting roasted (generally because they are being unreasonable), so they contact MNHQ saying they've been outed in real life so MNHQ zap the thread for them.

You can check using the mobile site. I usually can find it under 'notifications', i scroll them until it mentions the post then I click it and see the explanation.

The app is severely lacking! Needs so much improvement, but I use MN mostly on my phone so it's much better than the mobile version in terms of vision

Thank you to everyone who has helped and explained. Very much appreciated. Interesting though that even on a thread where I'm asking for help/answers someone comes on to be deliberately obtuse. Must be lovely to go through life and know the answer to everything.

Lockheart · 18/04/2022 09:38

Don't invest in threads. You're only wasting your own time.

It's the internet and people lie / troll / things get deleted all the time. If you want closure etc then MN is not the place for you.

sobby49 · 18/04/2022 09:41

@NippyWoowoo alright 'Nippy Woo Woo' Confused

BarbaraofSeville · 18/04/2022 09:44

Was it a thread about someone having no money?

If it was, I think there were too many people PMing the OP so they could send her money, so there was a bit of an argument about that, also the usual digs about money mismanagement and having DC with a waster.

EvenPhilip · 18/04/2022 09:49

MN are forever deleting threads with no explanation.
Often there is a cursory "We are just looking into this poster .." type of thing but nothing ever happens, it goes poof forever.
They make it up as they go along Confused

I KNOW what the internet and mumsnet is. I know about trolls and that people lie. I don't waste my life on here. I use it like most people, and you, do. I also don't want or need closure. I was just querying why a thread had just vanished.

And trotting out the old 'mumsnet is not for you' line!?!!! Really?! It's mumsnet not the dark web.

You're the one complaining about a fairly commonplace and unremarkable occurrence...

No point in looking harder! The deleted posts vanish from app, no deletion message (if in Im on / watching)

No, she's complaining that threads disappear with no notification - which they do, on the app.

You will not see the deletion messages for threads you are on, or watching, on the app. Only on the website versions.

And it's quite irritating so it's a reasonable question from OP.

NETSRIK · 18/04/2022 10:08

Not complaining. Querying. Maybe if I'd have known you knew everything I could have asked you and saved myself the trouble of starting a thread that you are having to invest in.
