Or is this not how anyone does washing?!

Who is BU here, me or DP?

When I put a wash load in the machine, I pick up each item individually and sort of make a mental note of it so I have a rough idea of what is going into the machine (in case anyone asks where an item of their clothing is, or in case I'm wondering "where's that pair of black trousers of mine?", for example).

DP claims to just "pick up a load of stuff and shove it in". He doesn't put them in one by one. So if it's a darks wash that he's put on, and I ask "are my black trousers in that wash?" or "is DD's pink dress in that colours wash by any chance?", he won't know. All he knows is that he shoved a load of dark or coloured stuff in.

He thinks that's a perfectly reasonable way to do the washing. I think surely no one else does this? Surely most people look at what they're putting in so they at least have a rough idea of what's going in?!

Who is BU? Please settle this once and for all! Grin

Title makes no sense - it should read:

"Or is this not how anyone does washing?"

Shove them all in, but mentally note as I hang them to dry.

UnadulteratedCat · 17/04/2022 11:19

Big arm full of darks here too. No time to give a fuck where everyone’s pants or tops are.

Even your own?

YABU I separate the colours and shove it in, it’s going to be out in an hour anyway I don’t see the point looking. I’d notice when hanging to dry maybe.

JanetPluchinsky · 17/04/2022 11:19

I sort it into piles of colours but I have no idea what goes in at any one time. It all gets shoved in.

Ohilovetorave · 17/04/2022 11:19

Of course I don't make notes, just shove it in and take it out again when it's done, that's just bonkers quite honestly Hmm

RedSnail · 17/04/2022 11:20

i do it how your dh does it. people will know whether they put their trousers in the washing basket or not.

SausagePourHomme · 17/04/2022 11:20

No time for all that. Just bung it in.

D0lphine · 17/04/2022 11:20

I don't have the headspace to note everything going in and out the washing machine!!!!! Who does?

Soozikinzii · 17/04/2022 11:21

Also just shove in here ! I did have 6 DSs though so I suppose I couldn't have been to fussy and have continued now they've all left !

Wombat98 · 17/04/2022 11:21

Shove in, divided approximately into dark, lighter, etc.

I take no responsibility for what happens after as DH handles drying, sorting & putting away.

SalmonEile · 17/04/2022 11:21

I’m a shover too unless I know I need certain things washed

Sofiegiraffe · 17/04/2022 11:22

😂 I don't make physical notes. Just rough mental ones. So I'm aware roughly of what's in there. Mainly for the DCs' stuff so I know where their things are. But also for my work stuff or DP's, so if he asks I can say "that shirt is in the wash at the moment" for example.

everything gets shoved in the machine

Whitacre · 17/04/2022 11:22

I don’t check all the undies but usually mentally note the tops/trousers etc, so I know where everything is. I don’t make a big effort, it’s just the way my brain works!

Dizzyhedgehog · 17/04/2022 11:22

It just all goes in. Why would I sort through it individually? If it's not in the wardrobe, it'll most likely be in the wash. You can wait for half an hour until the washing machine is finished, if it's really such a burning question.

Sofiegiraffe · 17/04/2022 11:22

Apparently not in our house 😂

I'm with your husband grab an arm full and shove it in.
If I need something specific ill make sure it's in but that's the extend of it.

Chemenger · 17/04/2022 11:22

Shoved in all at once. Life’s way to short to individually insert things into the machine.

Akite · 17/04/2022 11:22

Yep, another with your DH I'm afraid. I mean, I might put a wash of school uniform on but I won't take note of individual items, who has time (or inclination!) to do that? Big armful, shove in, turn on - done.

IsDaveThere · 17/04/2022 11:22

Shove it all in. If I can't find a particular item of clothing, it must be in the wash so what's the point of making a note of every item put in the machine? That's bonkers Grin

EastHer · 17/04/2022 11:23

Separate colours and then shove in.

Cocomarine · 17/04/2022 11:23

YABU?!

Does your washing machine cycle last 3 days?!!

Why on earth would you need to answer queries?

“Mum, have you seen my black trousers?”

“No. They’re either in your wardrobe, more likely on your floordrobe, or if they were in the washing basket then they’re either still in there - or as a load went on half an hour ago, in the machine.”

Not enough hours in the day to be answering stupid questions about what’s in the machine! I’m actually really surprised that you do 🤣

You do you - but don’t criticise him.

Luckingfovely · 17/04/2022 11:23

What on Earth are you talking about?

I can barely remember if I've put darks or lights on (or mixed with a Colour Catcher)!

If someone can't find something in their room, then it must be in the wash.

So no, no idea, no interest, no inclination to know what the duck is in the washing machine at any given point in my life, ever.

YABU in the extreme Grin
