Virtue signalling? How about Branson pays the nhs the money he’s done them out of instead

Why pick that issue, I wonder? There are plenty of things people have to wait ages for on the NHS.

Foilball · 15/04/2022 15:38

He's a business man. He's probably worked out that it's a good way to recruit and retain staff who would otherwise have to either pay for private treatment or wait for up to a decade for the NHS, as well as being a good bit of PR.

I do think he should also pay back the NHS

KrisAkabusi · 15/04/2022 15:39

And yet another trans-bashing thread on Mumsnet.

Do they also fund IVF / other (potentially health improving) operations?

If not it seems a bit crass to exploit the PR…

Scianel · 15/04/2022 15:48

There are people waiting in agony for years for hip and knee replacements, missing out, living with poor quality of life and losing mobility.
They're just boring though I suppose.

@KrisAkabusi

And yet another trans-bashing thread on Mumsnet.
Please do state specifically what makes you say that?

Or is questioning something "trans bashing "?

I agree.... Isn't it better that these procedures be funded by private healthcare instead of the NHS???
DaysInPinkPolyester · 15/04/2022 16:02

Boycott Virgin.

Hit these fuckers and others like Monsoon and Marks and Spencer right in the pocket.

Lucia23 · 15/04/2022 16:10

I'm with them and will be terminating if this is true. This man is filthy rich - could cure so many of the worlds ills and he chooses this one. Wonder why.

JustLyra · 15/04/2022 16:12

Branson doesn’t own Virgin Media

IsadoraQuagmire · 15/04/2022 16:18

Virtue signalling crap!

I expect they've weighed up the fact that a small minority will boycott them against the fact that this will cast the company in a positive light to far more people, as well as make it a more inclusive and supportive place to work.
LampLighter414 · 15/04/2022 16:29

Richard Branson does not own or have any investment in Virgin media anymore. Not for many years. It is owned by a US cable conglomerate that has similar tv/broadband offerings in Netherlands, Germany etc

Presumably some kind of agreement was made to retain the name so at best Virgin group receives some money from that - maybe a few mil a year.

They have also recently merged with o2. Owned by Telefonica, a Spanish company and nothing to do with Branson

Also great trans bashing.

A person or business can support whatever initiative they want. It's a free country. They are trying to help some people.

Blossomtoes · 15/04/2022 16:30

Bit disingenuous @Rosiesmydog. It’s only for VM employees.

LeftFootForward · 15/04/2022 16:38

@Muminabun

Is he also willing to fund other surgeries that are elective but that will make people’s lives so much better. Is this benefit really being dolled out fairly or is it just a desperate attempt to be ‘inclusive’. Other staff will be quick to realise this if they feel it is unfair. My personal feeling is that it is deeply unethical to cut into healthy flesh to relive psychological issues and needs. I don’t think trans surgeries are on a Par with plastic surgery because for example a nose or boob job is fully recoverable whereas trans surgeries are not and cause lifelong pain and damage.
Probably controversial on here to say this but I think trans surgery is exactly on par with breast enlargement or a cosmetic nose job. In all cases you are having perfectly healthy body parts modified which IMO should not be done on the NHS. Plastic surgery to correct illness/ injury fair enough. Cosmetic procedures should be private in a stretched NHS. Branson would get more respect from me if he stumped up for some hip and knee replacements or hernia repairs.
Rosiesmydog · 15/04/2022 17:18

@Blossomtoes I wasn’t knowingly being disingenuous… I posted the link to the article which states clearly that it’s just for VM employees. I was not intending to infer that it was a free for all

Virgin Media are a joke company with shit broadband and abysmal customer service. The kind you only get replies from if you post on facebook.
Please leave the company to die off quietly.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 15/04/2022 17:39

“More inclusive” well no not for all the ppl who get that biological sex is immutable, that being gay or lesbian is to be same sex not same gender attracted, detransitioner regret is a real thing & are tired of explaining reality to fuckwits

Are you calling me a fuckwit?

/////

What, by feeding into what will always be an untruth?

Vs so much actual real benefit this money could do for people who are in pain, every day, possibly terminally ill?

FrancescaContini · 15/04/2022 20:28

Two-year waiting list for CAMHS locally. I suspect RB could sort this out very easily.

Can you tell me what’s wrong with trans people so that a company that’s trying to help them deserves boycotting ?
