To ask for weird realisations you’ve had about life?

Things about mundane life that you’ve never given much thought but suddenly think “Now I think about it, that’s weird.”

I had one of these today. I live in a mid-terrace, neighbours are nice and quiet and we don’t hear a peep. A few days ago I had a snoop at one of the next-door neighbour’s house on Rightmove after seeing it was for sale, and realised that they have their bed right up against our party wall as I do mine. So even though I sleep in bed alone every night, there’s actually 2 people who I don’t really know just a couple of inches away from me! I don’t know why but for some reason it creeps me out. I’ve realised that in terraced houses you’re actually sharing one building with lots of people, many of whom you will NEVER interact with.

Primary purpose for the mother would be to produce milk. Primary purpose of milk woukd be nutrition for the child. Lots of secondary purposes, immunological and otherwise. You mentioned 'purpose of lactation is; forming stomach lining via rapid cell division' so I was curious what you meant. Grateful for an explanation.

Regarding the sandwiches, I understand they are produced by some manufacturers in stacks then cut so the pair in a pack are the vertical adjacent sandwiches on, say, the left hand side rather than both sides of the same sandwich or layer, if that makes sense?

LakieLady · 15/04/2022 10:43

That a significant proportion of the UK population is racist, xenophobic and incredibly right-wing.

I mean, I always knew some people were, but there seem to be far more of them than I ever imagined.

If this method is used, it's definitely from the same bread!
Zilla1 · 15/04/2022 11:31

I did say some manufacturers and I see the footage around 4m rotates the sandwich but at 2m35s on the other assembly line, does it say 'the stacked halves on each side will be packaged as one sandwich'

Sleep is basically time travelling to the morning

Sleep is basically time travelling to the morning
Which is why I can't understand people who go to bed early on Sundays.

Thanks for the sandwiches explanation.

If you posess things either gifts or things you have inherited for example and the giver is now dead, that item is now in your posession, in your home because of a decision that now dead person made. They thought about you, they saw the item and decided to buy/give it to you. If they bought it, their energy went into earning the money to pay for it. The food they ate gave them the energy to earn that money and shop for the item.
I have some furniture that my grandad made. To think that he ate his breakfast each morning, went into his workshop and made those items. I think, what was going through his mind as he bashed this nail in or sawed that piece. Wondering why grandma was taking so long with that cuppa?
All that energy of someone long gone has resulted in me having those things in my posession, right now and I am using my energy thinking about it!

@TransitionYear

All this Ukrainian stuff is really getting to me. Russians sending in their army to murder, terrorize, rape, etc. Just like the Germans in WW2, and like we’ve done to many countries too, even in recent times.

I think this is less likely to happen with female leaders.

I have always thought that if every Leader/President/Prime Minister was female, that there would be no war. My Mum (rest her soul), used to say that women would not send their sons to war.

This.

I mean I knew some people were, but I didnt realise it was a signficant proportion of the country.

Has made me more aware of their point of view and how uneducated, ignorant and closed minded people in the UK are. Not that other European countries aren't, just that I thought Brits were more open-minded and accepting as they seem so polite.
@2ndMrsdeWinter yes same here! Body processes. My heart keeps beating, breathing keeps happening, food is digested, my body regulates its own temperature and fluid balance. All without thinking about it!

Also - what's underneath me? If I'm lying in bed, there is the bed, then the floor, then the ceiling of the next room, then space, another floor, foundations of house, ground, all the layers of earth's crust...all the way down to the centre of the earth. If I kept going at what point on the other side of the earth would I emerge? What would be there??
I've been a primary school teacher for the better part of 15 years now. I remember so clearly, about 5 years into the job, looking around for a "proper grown-up", then realising that person was me!! I was the oldest person in the room. Prior to that, I'd always had teaching assistants who were older than me.

Another one is the idea of sonder, which I've been aware of for many years. The realisation that everyone out there in the world, has a life as vivid and complex as my own. And similarly, the realisation that no one else is thinking about you, quite as much as you are thinking about yourself.

It looks like about 1000km away from Australia depending where in the UK you are.

Not a distance I could swim anyway.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/04/2022 14:40

When I dig through I'm off to NZ instead, accents sexier anyway.

It is easy to forget and then it is a shock all over again when you encounter it.

Sometimes more than others. Ex's friend worked in an estate agents in Newcastle. Apparently the terraces there often shared one loft space running the length . Nightmare for burglaries if the loft hatch in each wasn't secured.

... and fires.
