Today I met with friend for a coffee. She mentioned getting some new curtains and I told her I got some new bedding from Wilko. 2 x duvet sets king size 2 x fitted sheets king size and 2 packs of 2 pillow cases all for £88 and I was cuffed about it. She said that i must have more money than sense, and would never pay those prices…
I thought that was an absolute bargain! And told her so and she said I clearly don’t shop around.
Have a missed something? Is bedding cheaper than that for what I got?
I’m kicking myself now I didn’t ask her where she buys bedding from but I was really shocked she thought it was expensive!

Try Dunelm or b n m. Not Terrible value but could get cheaper

VyeBrator · 12/04/2022 22:53

Just have a look on Google

Rockband · 12/04/2022 22:54

You could’ve got it for about half the amount in Asda, so she probably gets her bedding there/another supermarket or waits for the sales.

TOADfan · 12/04/2022 22:54

Dunelm Mill has the best bedding and great value eg king-size duvet set for £22.
£88 would be expensive to me.

TibetanTerrah · 12/04/2022 22:56

I bought wilko bedding when I moved. It pilled, buttons came off and was itchy. I paid a similar amount in asda and they're just lovely. Maybe that is what she meant?

Ponoka7 · 12/04/2022 22:57

Have a look at Asda George prices. It tends to be King-size that's on sale. It's worth checking around. Aldi and Lidl always have king-size left over. They are on Aldi's website. You could have got the same for £32.

OppsUpsSide · 12/04/2022 22:58

Expensive for the quality

DuggeeHugPlease · 12/04/2022 22:58

I got mine in white company and paid about that for one duvet cover and 2 pillow cases so I would agree you got a good price. Having said that I had to really convince myself it was worth spending so much. But you spend a lot of hours in bed and I think it's worth getting better quality. They wash and wear really well and just feel so much nicer.

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 12/04/2022 22:59

Your friend is being unreasonable to use the term “more money than sense”, which is usually used in the context of “ooo look at her getting above her station in life”.

Jalepenojello · 12/04/2022 23:00

I could knock at least £30 off that without even trying. It would be easy to spend a lot more though, I don’t think it’s a terrible price

Cocomarine · 12/04/2022 23:00

What an odd thing to be “kicking yourself” about?!
Put a wee message to her on a carrier pigeon.
Or you know, text her and say, “so where do you recommend for cheaper bedding then?”

Your friend was rude.
CallMeRachel · 12/04/2022 23:01

£88 for all that from Wilko is not cheap imo but if it was £88 from John Lewis then yes it would be a bargain.

redfairy · 12/04/2022 23:01

I think £88 for all that sounds absolutely fine. Obviously her budget is different to yours.

echt · 12/04/2022 23:02

The whole point is were the sets what you wanted: thread count, fabric, pattern? On its own, your friend's comment is meaningless; of course there are always things cheaper somewhere else.

I look for what I want, THEN compare prices.

Cocomarine · 12/04/2022 23:03

I’ve just checked the first page of results on Amazon.
£14.99 for king size duvet and two pillow case set. £9.99 for fitted king size sheet.

BrownStripePJ · 12/04/2022 23:04

Sounds cheap to me

MurmuratingStarling · 12/04/2022 23:04

Not super expensive but you could have got cheaper for basic shop-bought stuff. Basically, you paid £44 for a king size quilt, a king size sheet, and, 2 pillowcases. From Wilkos. Confused

You could have got something nice in the Catherine Lansfield collection for less that. Or some other similar designer, or something in the Habitiat range. Just seems a lot to pay for Wilkos.

LBFseBrom · 12/04/2022 23:04

I think it is quite a bargain, op. Of course you can get cheaper but the items may not be as nice. Why worry about it? It's done now anyway.

Seems an odd conversation to have :).

DockOTheBay · 12/04/2022 23:05

I was surprised at the price for wilko because that tends to be cheaper/not great quality. But I wouldn't say "more money than sense" because its still pretty cheap. Yes you could get cheaper but you could get much much more expensive!

Hardtofindafreename · 12/04/2022 23:05

All depends on the quality. I will pay for quality bed linen as I love high thread count crisp cotton sheets. Your friend was rude imo.

MurmuratingStarling · 12/04/2022 23:05

Sorry £44 for a king size quilt COVER, 2 pillow cases and a sheet.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 12/04/2022 23:06

To me that's pricey but it's all relative isn't it. You buy what you like and what your budget allows.

SteakExpectations · 12/04/2022 23:07

I think that if you got bedding that you’re happy with - colour, material - and you obviously think it’s value for money, then disregard what your friend said.

Yes, you can get bedding cheaper that Wilkos, I actually find that Wilkos isn’t the cheap option it used to be these days. Ultimately, it’s like everything else - shop around and go with the one that you judge to be the best option.

Jeschara · 12/04/2022 23:17

2 bed sets and 2 fitted sheets at £88.00 is not expensive. If you like them, they are worth the money. Your friend us rude.
I would not discuss what I pay for things with friends.
