It looks like a kid’s medal for taking part in a team. What else do you think it could be?

user1473878824 · 07/04/2022 18:27

Not a genuine what?

ValerieCupcake · 07/04/2022 18:31

@user1473878824

Not a genuine what?
Football medal achieved by a grown adult.

Well, it's hardly FA Cup quality but I'd be happy to believe that a lowish league club or Sunday dads league could hand out something like that. Why do you care?

Hugasauras · 07/04/2022 18:33

But you can get medals for all manner of things. Charity games, amateur leagues, memorial games. So genuine how? What's the person who has it claiming it's for?

bluebaul · 07/04/2022 18:33

It's a medal, so it's genuine. Context?

AnxiousHeffalump · 07/04/2022 18:35

Unless someone is telling you they are a professional footballer, and this is the proof, I’d say it’s genuine as a little medal for an amateur team.

Why do I care? Someone I think is being fed a load of rubbish.

You know anyone can get medals and trophies made, right? So it’s genuine in that it is a real physical item resembling a medal. But whether or not the individual in question rightfully earned it is a different matter. Is that what you’re questioning?

Yes.

You can buy medals like that for amateur games. DS has a few rugby ones in a similar style - participation, runners up, winners etc. What is the person claiming?

Snoopfroggyfrogg · 07/04/2022 18:37

What is it supposed to be that you think it may not be? I don't know the name, is it a famous player?

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2022 18:38

The back story is probably interesting essential.

bluebaul · 07/04/2022 18:39

It's like pulling teeth with this OP Hmm

CuddlyCactus · 07/04/2022 18:39

Whether it's genuine depends what the person is claiming it's for.
Sunday morning 5 a sides league Yes.
European cup No

Someone I know is in conversation with the person who allegedly won this medal. I think they are being fed rubbish. It could be leading up to something unpleasant.

incognitoforthisone · 07/04/2022 18:39

Well, clearly it's not a Champions League winner's medal, but it's certainly exactly the kind of medal an adult would get given at a low-level non-league tournament or a charity five-aside thing or something.

I don't really understand what your issue is? If someone has told you they got this for representing their country at the World Cup or playing in midfield for Tottenham or something, then obviously they're lying. But if they've just told you it's a football medal they won, then... clearly that is definitely exactly what this is?!

ValerieCupcake · 07/04/2022 18:40

@bluebaul

It's like pulling teeth with this OP Hmm
Because it concerns someone else and not me. Possible scammer.

nearlyspringyay · 07/04/2022 18:40

Yep, context needed. Is someone claiming to be a premier league footballer and this is the proof? Or is someone a Sunday league player proud of their medal?

iklboo · 07/04/2022 18:41

We can't help with such little detail to say if it's a scam or not. You've not said what they're claiming the medal is for / from.

MoggyP · 07/04/2022 18:42

It does look like the sort of medal you get at some levels of competition.

Are the names Nigerian?

waterlego · 07/04/2022 18:42

But it’s not really a wild claim. Tens of thousands of people (maybe more…I’m really bad at estimating Grin) across the country play football on the weekends. Is it hard to believe this person may have won a medal? My husband has won medals and trophies for football over the years and believe me, he is no Pele. Ordinary, not particularly athletic people can win such things in their local leagues. It doesn’t really seem like an outrageous claim to me.

BlanketsBanned · 07/04/2022 18:42

Whats the scam

Namechange466 · 07/04/2022 18:42

OP just give us the full story and context as this is very painful

of course it’s a genuine medal or replica of a medal - but no idea what benchmark to are asking us to compare to
