PASSPORT HELP- TRAFFIC POSTING!

TEMPUSERNAME67 · 06/04/2022 17:36

Well I f*ed up well and truly. Didn’t realise passports take 10 weeks now! Renewed my passport today then realised I lost it when I went to send my my old one off so now it’s a replacement.

Any chance on earth it will come within 8 weeks?!!!

Any experiences recently?

Yes IAU for posting here and for being a dick and not sorting this sooner.

can you get a fast-track in person appointment? those are quicker.

Amei · 06/04/2022 17:40

I renewed 2 adult ones and got a first child one - they were applied for on the 28th Feb and I received all 3 by the end of March x

FiveForAPound · 06/04/2022 17:51

I was on a thread the other day and some people were getting them quite quickly and some not so much. There seems to be an element of chance.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/04/2022 17:54

Do you mean you filled the form in as a renewal but then found you have got the old one to send off so it’s now a replacement but you didn’t state that on the form? Because that might slow things up a lot as they’ll be waiting for your old passport to arrive before they begin to process your application.

andyindurham · 06/04/2022 17:56

Submitted an application to renew DD passport on Monday. They said it can be up to 10 weeks, but applications right now should be processed in five weeks. So you would probably be OK, based on that timescale. The 10 week thing probably has a sizeable element of arse-covering.

YoYoYoYoSup · 06/04/2022 17:59

On the website it says 5-6 weeks for adult passports and 5 weeks for kids. You should be OK.

BrieAndChilli · 06/04/2022 18:01

The problem is those of us who got them in 5 weeks recently applied 2 months ago. No-one really knows how long it will take for people applying today as we have no idea how many other people have also apploed!!

Littlebendytoe · 06/04/2022 18:37

I posted 3 on the 15th of March and have had an email to say they have been completed and should be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

that1970shouse · 06/04/2022 18:43

DH posted his to Durham on 21st March and it came back yesterday, so only two weeks. It was a straightforward renewal though, not a lost/stolen passport so I don't know if that would make a difference.

YorkshireLawyer · 06/04/2022 18:55

Having just gone through immense stress sorting out a new passport for my son I wouldn’t take any chances. Do you mean you’ve submitted the application as a renewal, and only realised when you went to send the old passport in that it’s lost?If so, you need to withdraw your current application. You might be able to do that online or you can write to the office processing your application. You also need to make an application for a lost passport. I wouldn’t take my chances with an online application and would instead make an in-person fast-track appointment for which you get a paper form from the Post Office and take it along with you to your appointment. You then get your passport within 7 days.

It may well all turn out ok if you apply online, but having been less than two weeks away from our holiday without a passport for my son because the Passport Office themselves lost his old passport when we sent it in, I wouldn’t risk putting yourself in that position. It took us 2 x 300 mile round trips and a huge amount of stress to sort out!

BFCfairy · 06/04/2022 19:01

Our passports were quick but not lost so a renewal ans took 3 weeks

My drivers licence was lost and so needed a replacement took 3 months but that was last year still covid delays apparently

Any number you can phone to change application or at least cancel renewal and then do quickest next option hopefully in person now "covid is over"

Blah1881 · 06/04/2022 19:19

I’m another one who submitted a regular non- urgent application initially (Feb 28th) then panicked wildly, withdrew my application and went fast track (wasn’t easy, train journey to Newport and Durham HMPO, lots of begging) . Got the passport yesterday, travel Sunday! 100s spent on the whole enterprise and the misery of train delays but I have the prizeGrin

Dizzyhedgehog · 06/04/2022 19:29

I found out that we had lost DHs passport about two weeks ago. We're leaving for our holiday on Friday, so no way would a normal replacement have arrived in time. (We are also abroad, which means no option to fast track.) We were lucky enough to get an emergency passport posted to us within 2 days of applying for it. It's valid for this trip only but DH has a national ID card he can use within the EU for travel purposes.
We'll apply for a new passport once we are back home.

Toottooot · 06/04/2022 19:31

Got a first passport for a child within 4 weeks.

TEMPUSERNAME67 · 06/04/2022 19:33

Sorry everyone I wasn’t clear…

So I submitted an online application form today for renewal, they asked for me to send old passport off to them. So went home to do this, and realised it was my daughters and not mine. I tore the house apart searching. So called the passport office and explained, they told me to cancel it online and call back with reference number so they can update my application form but when I did this they put me down for a call back and took my reference number so it can be changed from renewal to replacement

TEMPUSERNAME67 · 06/04/2022 19:35

And also they said because I’ve already submitted application I can’t get a fast track appointment.

Sent off for DS1 and DS2 mid Feb (online). DS1 got his two weeks ago. DS2 still waiting.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 06/04/2022 19:49

I wonder if other countries have such shit passport services or is it just world class levelled up Tory UK?

Binbagladymay · 06/04/2022 21:06

@Blah1881 how did you withdraw ? I’m in a similar boat. Havn’t sent the birth certificate off yet. I’m really
Not clear how to change it to a fast track application

Binbagladymay · 06/04/2022 21:09

@YorkshireLawyer I’m in a similar board . Can I hijak and ask your opinion .

I submit my sons application this evening ( before seeing what a shit show the wait times were!) with 5 weeks thinking I could easily move to fast track ! No idea how to do that.

They need his birth certificate to progress . Am I early enough in the process to withdraw. And book fast track ? Any ideas ?!

YorkshireLawyer · 06/04/2022 21:38

I believe you can book a fast track appointment even if you’ve made an online application, and PROVIDED you haven’t already sent your supporting documents off (old passport, birth certificate etc) there is a form you can fill out at your fast track appointment to withdraw your online application. You’ll need to know your online application PEX number. You’ll obviously also need to take along your completed paper application form and the supporting documents. Hope that helps.

If you’ve already sent your supporting documents off following your online application it is much more difficult, as we found out!

Binbagladymay · 06/04/2022 21:57

@YorkshireLawyer thank you for that. I heard some rumours they have changes their policy recently and you need to take a signed letter to confirm withdrawal. It’s strange they don’t have a decent faq’s.

Barleysugar85 · 06/04/2022 22:01

Applied for a child renewal and child first passport on the 4th March. As of today they are both printed and being sent for delivery- I only had 9 weeks myself and totally understand the worry! But we should get them both next week I think, so roughly 6 weeks after we sent them in.

We had to ring the passport office about sending a marriage license and while on the phone to us they did tell us they'd made a note of our travel date in early May on their system. I don't know if that had any influence on anything!
