To not want Decathlon advertising on MN

balalake · 02/04/2022 08:02

I keep seeing Decathlon adverts. A company who has only after five weeks of Russian invasion of Ukraine finally withdrawn their business there.

Should they continue to be boycotted and their advertising not accepted?

OP posts:
00100001 · 02/04/2022 08:03

Ridiculous.

ChiselandBits · 02/04/2022 08:10

Oh give over. Its a business. They can't all make instant changes or afford to make some kind of a moral point that will actually mostly affect the ordinary Russian person who loses their job.

Shurl · 02/04/2022 08:11

Boycott if you like, but nobody else has too

00100001 · 02/04/2022 08:11

Of you want to stop adverts or boycott rom companies with a presence in Russia, you'd be blocking Colgate, Danone, Allianz, Huawei, general mills, Acer, Johnson & Johnson, Nestlé, AstraZeneca, Barcadi, Kellog, Mare, Whirlpool etc etc etc

QuebecBagnet · 02/04/2022 08:12

I thought the adverts here were individualised? So based on your browsing history? I’ve never seen a decathlon advert.

MintyMoocow · 02/04/2022 08:13

Yes, because the workers in those Decathlon stores are ABSOLUTELY responsible for the invasion of Ukraine!

girlmom21 · 02/04/2022 08:13

Grow up OP. They're a business who need to keep going. How many people do you think will lose their jobs if we boycott every business who makes a decision we don't agree with?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 02/04/2022 08:15

The adverts are tailored to the individual user, not the website.

saltedcaramelchocolate · 02/04/2022 08:30

I am trying to avoid companies who are still in Russia, but now Decathlon have pulled out, fair enough. I think they have huge investments in Russia so probably not straightforward to just shutting the doors.
But if they were still there, I think I would be annoyed to see MN advertising them too OP.

spotcheck · 02/04/2022 08:31

@MintyMoocow

Yes, because the workers in those Decathlon stores are ABSOLUTELY responsible for the invasion of Ukraine!
I thought the invasion was sponsored by Decathlon...? The soldiers go back to camp of an evening and play ping pong on tables supplied free of charge by Decathlon
CrowUpNorth · 02/04/2022 08:35

If they were blocked forever there would be no reason for a company that makes a mistake up front to change their minds. Just don't buy from them.

RewildingAmbridge · 02/04/2022 08:39

They are personalised, I've never seen a decathlon ad on MN. Currently I'm looking at Boden and made.com ads.
Someone on your device has been frequenting the decathlon website OP

Ponoka7 · 02/04/2022 08:40

While the UK, still allows mega wealthy Russians to own property and businesses here, I don't think that we should take such a harsh stance towards companies who might wonder what good they will do by denying employment to Russian people who don't have a say. People in Russia will die of malnutrition. Putin doesn't care. We starved the Germans to death, allowed their women to be raped etc after WW2 regardless of who they voted for. We can't take the moral high ground. We've allowed very questionable people to buy large chunks of our country, invest and they have even been heavily involved with our government and royal family.

AskingforaBaskin · 02/04/2022 08:48

Do you feel proud now that you've made a post condemning some business and their workers?

Did you rack up those SJW points?

In realty most normal people understand that business still need to run, decisions can not be made instantly and decisions that could cause financial harm to them need to be executed right.

Also can you explain how the Russian people using this company directly contributes to the invasion? Maybe The company could add it to their Tax exemption.

Buffalostance89 · 02/04/2022 09:10

The adverts on here for me are things I’ve never looked up 🤷🏻‍♀️Currently showing is how to grow your own herbs, an alarm kit and Galaxy phone

I would like the Herbs one...I have one about glasses.
SafelySoftly · 02/04/2022 09:17

Oh FFS. I hope you’re also boycottting Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct for their appalling treatment of staff

JamieNorthlife · 02/04/2022 09:17

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound, The adverts are tailored to the individual user, not the website.

This... and

OP, needs to clear her cache and cookies and perhaps not search for decathlon anymore.

Some info on how targeted ads work ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targeted_advertising

Zonder · 02/04/2022 09:32

Quite funny that this implies op was searching for decathlon herself.

ThinWomansBrain · 02/04/2022 09:39

I've got something called "To Mr Vegas" at the moment - never gambled or looked up gambling ever.
I think it's because I decline cookies on almost every site I visit - I just get random adverts. Maybe I should be more lax about allowing cookies to that I get more interesting ads.

Cocomarine · 02/04/2022 09:43

I have actually been on Decathlon website this morning, but MN is still giving me Annabel flipping Karmel in a Whitney Houston type run of weeks!

Jedsnewstar · 02/04/2022 10:22

Oh go away with this nonsense

SaxendaSummer · 02/04/2022 10:39

I like decathlon!

Let's keep it!

Indicatrice · 02/04/2022 10:40

Aibu to not want to see threads like this on MN. they are meaningless.
