Didn't see a message on Teams from a manager at work, they think I ignored them

I was messaged yesterday afternoon on Teams by a senior manager at work in our group chat, they tagged me. I was having IT issues at the time so was restarting my computer so missed the notification and didn't see it when I logged back in. They then messaged me again after I had logged off for the evening, tagging me again.

I didn't see either of those tagged messages in the group chats or the notifications when I logged in. It was only when they directly messaged me that I went to check our group chat and saw it (it wasn't showing that there were any new messages in the chat so I hadn't looked at it).

I apologised and said I didn't see the message and promptly did what they were asking of me, but I feel like they think I was ignoring them deliberately?

AIBU to hate Teams

Happens ALL the time OP. If they are deliberately ignoring you, they’re being a dick. Teams can be really unreliable.

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/04/2022 17:25

OP was ignoring them? So not helpful.

Move on, nobody died.

Youdoyoutoday · 01/04/2022 17:25

Shit happens, job's done now so don't worry

SausagePourHomme · 01/04/2022 17:25

They can tell from the ticks whether a message has been read. If unread it has a circle next it it

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/04/2022 17:27

It’s a group chat so no ticks unless everyone read it.

Changethetoner · 01/04/2022 17:28

This is not a big deal. It is annoying yes, but it's a minor work issue. Move on. go home and have a large gin.

balalake · 01/04/2022 17:31

There is someone at Microsoft having a laugh about the number of people who have adopted Teams. It's a very poor and unreliable product compared with other options, or even with other Microsoft products.

AlisonDonut · 01/04/2022 17:31

I'd probably message them and say 'apologies, my teams messaging doesn't always actually notify me so if I'm doing something else I never see it. Probably best to use email if you need a quick response.'

PatientlyWaiting21 · 01/04/2022 18:27

This happens all the time to me too…only I do intentionally ignore them 😂

QuebecBagnet · 01/04/2022 18:33

If they want something doing they need to be professional and email or ring you.

I have so many different work chat channels on teams. One of them I see if someone tags me. The others for some reason I don’t. I can miss something for weeks!

SnackSizeRaisin · 01/04/2022 18:35

They should email you or phone if it's urgent. Just tell them what you wrote here - no need to worry

Quartz2208 · 01/04/2022 18:39

Your title says that they think you ignored them

But your post says you feel like they think that? Why?

Porkmore · 01/04/2022 20:16

Meh my staff ignore me all the time Grin

cakeorwine · 01/04/2022 20:24

You don't work where I work?

Teams is great - but it seems easy for people to not see messages. And not reply properly.

Or just forget to use it

AlisonDonut · 01/04/2022 20:26

When I worked I'd put meetings in my diary all the live long day so it would come up as busy. Honestly hated Teams. And glad I never ever have to use it any more.
FloralsForSpring · 01/04/2022 20:26

Is there a massive backstory to this?

OnTheBoardwalk · 01/04/2022 20:28

I mute group team chats cos all the constant noise annoys me

If they wanted to get you they should messaged or called you direct

alfagirl73 · 01/04/2022 20:36

I wouldn't worry about it - I don't always see messages immediately - often because I'm engrossed in a work task and tbh I find Teams really annoying. it's counter-productive in a lot of ways and if I stopped what I was doing every time someone in my dept posted something I'd never get any actual work done.

sashagabadon · 01/04/2022 20:42

I miss loads of people trying to call me on teams. I don’t care. It’s always colleagues wanting me to do things for them (never the other way round) so they can ring me on my phone or come and find me ideally and ask me to my face. ( they won’t as likely working from home)
I hate teams!

aylis · 01/04/2022 20:50

I hate teams as well. Your manager probably knows it’s unreliable so I wouldn’t worry about it.

ReadyToMoveIt · 01/04/2022 20:55

but I feel like they think I was ignoring them deliberately?

You feel like they think you were ignoring them? Have they actually indicated that they think you were ignoring them?

BettyOBarley · 01/04/2022 21:03

Teams is crap. I'm sure they know that too, don't worry.

Brefugee · 01/04/2022 21:10

I'm constantly missing messages on teams. I literally don't care if anyone thinks I'm ignoring them. If you want something from me urgently: pick up the phone.

cherish123 · 01/04/2022 21:14

I rarely check Teams. I prefer email.

tttigress · 01/04/2022 21:16

The problem is there is too much going on now. I am in many teams and Skype for business chats at the same time, as well as email, meetings etc.

I hate it, I am sure this is reducing our efficiency not improving it.

I actually have tasks to do, which require concentration and undivided attention to do without error, I do not someone pinging me every 5 minutes.

Companies need to stop excessive messaging!!
