Martin Lewis as Prime Minister

AIBU to wish Martin Lewis would start a political party and run for PM?
If this were the case we'd not be facing a Winter of deaths from cold, malnutrition, starvation and no doubt suicide?

And Covid if no one can afford to test

Brunosaiditlookslikerain · 01/04/2022 08:12

I agree he seems able to understand the financial impacts of political policies on the average person in the UK better than most MPs.

BlueBeeSpots · 01/04/2022 08:12

If he became prime minister he would start to be hated (as prime minister’s always are). I’m happy for him to stay where he is and remain a national treasure Grin

TinySaltLick · 01/04/2022 08:17

Love the idea of electing someone practical, pragmatic and in touch.

What if it went to his head and he starting doing terrible things, like finally update the formatting on his website - we would never recover

I agree!

The fact our system is so sewn up between two parties, but in effect one most of the time, is pretty terrible really!

longwayoff · 01/04/2022 08:21

Love Martin Lewis. Too sensible and humane to become a politician, we need him where he is.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 01/04/2022 08:22

He would be particularly excellent, but he ruled it out on twitter apparently Sad he was very emphatic about it Sad

Plus he likes his work life balance - he signs off social media for the weekend. He wouldn't get that in office!

ApocalypseNowt · 01/04/2022 08:26

Hugh Grant for PM. Martin can be his chancellor.

Playplayaway · 01/04/2022 08:51

Yes Martin Lewis or Dave Fishwick! They've got far too much common sense though Hmm

UsernameInTheTown · 01/04/2022 09:03

I did think he is way too decent a person to be either PM or MP but if he were to run for PM and succeeded, which he would (provided he stayed out of gender politics) it would herald a new era of, well, relevant politicians whose sole aim and purpose isn't to screw over the electorate.

Martin Lewis is too truthful to ever be PM. I particularly remember in the run up to the Brexit vote people were clamouring for him to tell them if it was true they'd be worse off if we left. He truthfully said that no-one knew for certain, so it was silly for people to be asking for "the facts" as there were none - only predictions.

No-one in this country would elect someone so truthful.

DebenhamsHadSomeLovelyStuff · 01/04/2022 09:15

He should certainly get a knighthood for services to his country though

Ikeptgoing · 01/04/2022 09:17

I love Martin Lewis and would vote for him as PM if he ran!
I hope he gets a knighthood

lkjhgfd · 01/04/2022 09:29

I thought I'd read that he'd been offered a knighthood and turned it down? Could very well be mixing him up with someone else though

I do think there needs to be a way to make sure our government is actually representative of the population. I just can't think how that could/would be implemented

sHREDDIES19 · 01/04/2022 09:43

Whilst he has done so much for the good, I do find him rather big headed, sorry! Having met and spoke with him, he's rather arrogant. Some may say rightly so, but a little humility goes a long way. Not a massive fan of him personally.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/04/2022 09:45

I’m clearly lacking in something because he really irritates me.

thebellagio · 01/04/2022 09:48

I feel that he is the sort of person who is much better being on the outside, and holding politicians to account. He has that cross-party appeal and an air of trust and respect.

As part of the excluded UK group, I cannot praise him enough for consistently trying to champion the 3 million people excluded from any financial support.

me too. Grin

And when he, Holly and Phil get together. Three multi millionaires telling people how to save 25p a week on their food bill.

Although being a multi millionaire and a bit arrogant/big headed probably good if he's going to be Prime Minister.

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2022 09:56

I wouldnt want to date him I imagine he wouldnt splash out at all.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2022 10:00

I don't think he's looking to date anyone. Grin I do wonder what it's like round at their house though, doing the monthly budgeting.

Apparently he's been approached a number of times to run for office but isn't interested in doing so

At the very least be great if he were chancellor

Love the idea of electing someone practical, pragmatic and in touch.

This is the problem we don't have anyone in office or willing to stand for office like this.

It used to be the Labour Party was more this way inclined but since Blair...

Plus he likes his work life balance - he signs off social media for the weekend. He wouldn't get that in office!

Yes - I love that he does this too. Clearly also a devoted husband and father and I also like that he's very open and down to earth regarding his faith too that's unusual these days I really like that aspect of him.

Hugh Grant for PM. Martin can be his chancellor.

Loving this idea!

People think it's really meaning Hugh's character from love actually - who was also awesome - but he's another I follow on sm and his political opinions aren't what I think a fair number of people would assume them to be. He's very scathing of this govt!

No to a knighthood I have far more respect for those who decline honours like this elitist archaic nonsense!

^This - he's not bound by party affiliations so he can call out bad things wherever they come from. As a politician (unless he stood independently in which case being PM would be tricky to say the least) he would have to try and defend the indefensible as they all have to.

Me too. Think he’d be a really good Chancellor too, but I agree with PP who’ve said he’s better (as he’s bloody brilliant!) at holding politicians to account.
BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 01/04/2022 13:09

Jackie Weaver for PM! 😃🙏👍🏻
