Is there a reason I can eat loads and not feel full before period?

It's quite amazing. I can eat and eat and eat, and not feel sated. Rest of the month, I have good cues to stop eating and easily recognise when I've had enough.

Scanning google seems to say we do need a few extra calories before/ during but like not two pints of ice cream and lots of toast Blush

I did find a thing that says new research does actually show our brain needs more glucose, but don't have the energy to hunt through the 'research' to see if it's shonky science?

But I feel like the change in hormones does something to leptin and gherkin?

Watching as I am the same

Ihatemyjob22 · 29/03/2022 22:52

I'm the same. Absolutely starving a few days before and could easily eat double

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/03/2022 22:53

Yes I do think there's plenty of us like this! It's so weird, it's like the hunger setting changes.

I get this, insatiable hunger but then my period comes & I can barely eat so I presume it just balances out.

ridemesideway · 29/03/2022 23:02

Blame progesterone.

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/03/2022 23:04

Yes my appetite really slacks off for a couple of days too. So it does balance itself.

But I just wonder what's happening, and if there is perhaps a supplement that might help with the UNRELENTING NEED for Haagen Dazs the week before Grin

Or I wonder if I made myself eat more healthy carbs that week, earlier in the day, would it reduce the drive for less nutritionally-dense carbs in the afternoons/ evenings?

Following with interest because this is me today. For me it only lasts one day every month. But for that day I CAN'T stop eating or thinking about eating. I usually just give in to it for the day.

TulipsGarden · 29/03/2022 23:10

Following as I would love to know. My friend and I call it Carb Day 😁

theton · 29/03/2022 23:11

I just feast & presume my body needs it.

FairyLightPups · 29/03/2022 23:14

It's normal, on ovulation day and in the build up to your period your body needs more carbs, particularly between 3-6 days past ovulation.

Howmanydaysuntilfriday · 29/03/2022 23:15

How is a man that's why

Howmanydaysuntilfriday · 29/03/2022 23:52

I mean god is a man

Ladywinesalot · 30/03/2022 15:35

Yeah I’m like this for 10 days before Confused

Specter123 · 30/03/2022 15:39

Same! Anyone ever feel like they're only actually themselves for like a week a month?

Week 1 - bleeding, in pain
Week 2 - happy!
Week 3 - spotty, ovulation pain, bloating
Week 4 - exhausted, eating everything in sight and irritable

It's amazing what we have to put up with really!

ForeverSingle881 · 30/03/2022 15:41

This is me. I got my period today. Yesterday I was sooo emotional and sooo hungry, craving all the chocolate, all of it!!! I always eat too much and then it only clicks the next day when I have my period.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 30/03/2022 15:48

Hormones!

Dixiechickonhols · 30/03/2022 15:54

Unrelenting need is a fab way to put it. I never really had pmt. Now I’m in peri menopause for about a week before period I NEED carbs more carbs and choc. My diet is normally very healthy.

blobby10 · 30/03/2022 15:58

Same here - the week before I'm due I crave carbs and salt. It used to be sweet stuff but that's abated over the past year. I assume my changing cravings are to do with peri menopause as I'm 'that' age! Day before yesterday I just wanted to eat and eat and eat and eat then eat some more. Period due yesterday but hasn't arrived yet - maybe this will be the month I miss one. Then another. Then another 🤞🤞🤞

I was like this as a teenager. Going on the contraceptive pill gave me stability.
Frostylaudanum · 30/03/2022 17:38

They used to recommend eating small amount of carbs every two hours when premenstrual

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/03/2022 17:41

The carb monster visits all women. Even when I am in the depths of a Crohn's flare and can't really eat, period week gives me a bit of appetite back!

Yep! I live for the week running up to ovulation.. I'm energetic, motivated, a bit giddy... I definitely get an ovulation high!
Pixies74 · 30/03/2022 17:45

@specter123 @bluesummerbaby... The pill definitely evened me out, but although I didn't get the lows running up to my period, I also didn't get the peak of ovulation.. Every week was just a bit meh Grin

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 30/03/2022 17:45

Yes to carbs, no to gherkins. They’re just going to hit the spot.
