To not understand why people care about men being feminine/wearing feminine clothes?

This is something that has divided me among family members. I'm usually respectful during discussions but had to distance myself.

One of my cousins is what you would consider a 'feminine' guy. He's came out as bisexual and the families reaction has been quite mixed. Most of my family are not at all accepting but at the same time haven't disowned him. They also have an issue with him wearing feminine clothes like leather boots, skinny jeans etc....I remember in particular walking with my other cousin and seeing a guy in really tight fitting short shorts and saying "It's wrong for a man to do that".

Now, I just think it's a bit stupid and somewhat immature for people to be concerned about what others do when it doesn't affect them. Some will say they're entitled to their opinion but I don't there's nothing wrong with calling out an ignorant opinion.

Am I in the wrong here?

Sorry, men don't wear skinny jeans?

Lol.

AlisonDonut · 27/03/2022 14:03

And men don't wear leather boots?

Oh my days.

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/03/2022 14:04

Really?

Skelligsfeathers · 27/03/2022 14:04

Why can't men wear skinny jeans and leather boots? Have you ever been to a rock/ heavy metal club??

JohannSebastianBach · 27/03/2022 14:05

Where do you live where men don't wear skinny jeans?

AlisonDonut · 27/03/2022 14:06

Hang on OP I'm just messaging my friends in Hell's Angels to let them know you think they are feminine.

Hotcuppatea · 27/03/2022 14:07

I grew up in the 80s. It was normal and sexy for men to wear feminine clothes.

What bothers me is men who wear their jeans so low you can see their arse hanging out. Surely even they know that looks ridiculous?

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2022 14:08

Leather boots and skinny jeans are feminine? 🤷‍♀️
I grew up in era where men wore pixie boots, frilly blouses and at least as much make up as I did. Grin

I have no issue with men wearing what the West considers to be feminine clothes. I was looking at the photos of Boris in Saudi Arabia and the palace guards in their ceremonial robes and such...essentially floor length dresses with flowing over dressing gowns...and they did not look the least bit feminine but quite masculine and forbidding with their desert daggers in belts and such. If men did wear “dresses” here, they would be masculine versions of them anyway.

EmpressCixi · 27/03/2022 14:13

I was just thinking about the old Beefeater uniform from when I was a child...it’s a knee length dress worn over trousers and very decorative...

HelenWick · 27/03/2022 14:27

I don't know anyone who has issues with men in 'feminine clothes' - blouses, dresses whatever - but I do not people, including myself dependant on the location, who are uncomfortable with men in cycling shorts, running tights etc if they are not actually exercising. Men come into my business place in these clothes and I find it really grim, I just don't want to see their cock and balls. A nice loose dress type thing - no problem.

XmasElf10 · 27/03/2022 15:13

Wear what you like as long as it covers your basic modesty. I couldn’t care less, it’s no one else’s business what clothes you choose to put on (or how you wear your hair, make up, tattoos, piercings….)

Skelligsfeathers · 27/03/2022 15:31

This is what lots of men looked like when i was a kid

I basically spend all my life in joggers and hoodies so everyone else can wear whatever the hell they want!

balalake · 27/03/2022 15:40

I agree with the poster who cared more than they did not wear low slung jeans or trousers. I do not want to see your probably dirty underwear.

Hawkins001 · 27/03/2022 15:42

A friends friend, so to speak, likes to wear women's underwear, apparently for the kinkyness factor of it. And the partner is aware of the person's preference and seems accepting of it. I guess each to their own, really, after All clothes are just different fabrics and materials with different designs and forms.

Blossom64265 · 27/03/2022 15:43

Men can wear whatever they want. Women can wear whatever they want. We teach these lessons to 3 year olds. There are no boy colors or girl colors. There are no boy clothes or girl clothes. Some people may try to say otherwise, but those people are wrong.

Just like with any fashion item, some men look great, even masculine, in a skirt or some frills and some just can’t quite pull it off. Even if someone doesn’t look stylish, they can still choose to wear whatever they want.

toomanytwinkies · 27/03/2022 15:58

People today: Men should dress like men, like they did in the old days.

If people study history then they'll see the various styles in fashion etc
toomanytwinkies · 27/03/2022 16:06

Exactly which is why I don’t get why they keep trotting out the old, men dressed like proper men in the past crap. Surely everyone knows what they wore in the past.

threecupsofteaminimum · 27/03/2022 16:09

Are your family from a remote island from the 1900's. They sound horribly judgemental, do they have anything nice to say about people who don't fit their idea of what's right and proper. Tbf, they sound exactly like my ex in laws Grin

Herja · 27/03/2022 16:14

I wear a lot of men's clothes. Not masculine looking womens clothes, ones from mens departments. Mens boots too (I have wide, wide feet, so mens steel toe caps fit me better and I like being able to kick things apart if necessary). To these ends, I couldn't give a shit what men wear. Clothes are clothes.

Kanaloa · 27/03/2022 16:20

Some people are just like that. They don’t really care what other people are wearing, they’re just sort of bullies and will pick on other people’s differences. Mostly they are the same sort who will sneer at a woman with short hair/less feminine clothing. Just mean people. It’s the type of thing you’ll never really understand if you’re not that type of person.
