Periods returned after vaccinations

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this! For the last 7 years I had had 2x periods. 2 in total. I have severe PCOS and 7 years ago conceived twins via IVF. Prior to the birth I was having a period every 6 - 9 months. Following their birth I had 2 periods (in 7 years) up until I received my first covid vaccination. Following the vaccination I had a period! Since then I have had regular periods, every single month!! I am fully vaccinated and boosted now. I have spoken to 2 other people who I knew through ivf and they are BOTH now having regular periods following vaccination, very similar circumstances to mine. It is absolutely crazy! I've never had regular periods for my entire life so adapting to them is strange but I am so happy. They are completely normal, not heavy and completely regular. We are going to do ivf again this summer and it will be so much easier with regular periods so this is a brilliant and welcome change but I wondered whether anyone knows why this could have happened? Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to add - I discussed with my ivf clinic and they said they do not know why this has happened but they are seeing it in a huge number of patients following vaccination.

Must just be me and the mystery periods Grin

I had an ablation five years ago. My periods have returned post vaccines. I know it’s not the same circumstances but I thought I’d share! My doc is going to ‘yellow book’ which I believe is noting as a side effect.

Shedoesntevengohere1 · 26/03/2022 18:15

I have PCOS and average at 2 periods a year- since getting the vaccines I’ve been getting them every month! (A year now) didn’t even think this could have been the reason

steff13 · 26/03/2022 18:25

My doctor told me it could affect my period. It hasn't though.

Periodconfusion · 26/03/2022 18:37

That is really interesting! Thank you very much for sharing. The IVF clinic said they've done the same, noting as a side effect.

I had heavy periods after both my vaccinations. A pretty awful side effect for me as I've never had that and didn't really know how to deal with them. Back to normal now thankfully.

Periodconfusion · 26/03/2022 18:38

And another! It's fascinating. Thank you for sharing as well.

Glad to hear you're OK and back to normal now Gwen!

Opposite here. Regular periods until the booster and having covid close together. However I'm also over 45.

Liverbird77 · 26/03/2022 18:39

It's been the opposite for me! Had booster in December, period in January and nothing since!

Notanotherwindow · 26/03/2022 18:45

If you want to conceive I'd try now as they may not stay. My usual cycle is 72 days so roughly every other month and I went to a normal 28 cycle after each vaccine.

Within 6 months I'm back to 'my normal'. Which I'm kind of glad of because I hate my period and prefer only coming on every two or three months.

I'm 44 so thought it was peri-menopause to begin with, but seeing everything back to normal has made me convinced it was the vaccine.
Undisclosedlocation · 26/03/2022 20:31

I’d had at least a year without periods (enough to stop counting),so deemed fully past menopause medically, yet my periods returned after my booster jab. Stopped again after 2 months

WelshyMaud · 26/03/2022 20:33

I'm the opposite...i've been as regular as clockwork for 20 years.

Had my first vaccine in the last week of February and I'm currently 3 weeks late. I've never been late, not once since I was 15 - except for 4 x pregnancies (and I'm definitiely not pregnant).

threeblowdries · 26/03/2022 20:42

I suffered irregular periods for years .... had maybe 3 or 4 periods a year. Since my vaccination I've had a period like clockwork every month. Im 42.

Undisclosedlocation · 26/03/2022 20:42

www.bmj.com/content/374/bmj.n2211

Over 30,000 cases of menstrual side effects have been reported and the BMJ note the link as ‘plausible’

And that’s without all of those like me who had issues but wouldn’t even have thought to report it…….

MrOllivander · 26/03/2022 20:52

I'm the opposite. First 3 vaccines no issues, 4th vaccine sent mine crazy
Usually have a 25/26 day cycle, that one was 33 days. Then spotting every single day
Next period was early so back to my normal cycle and hoping that's it now!

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 20:59

That sounds...Good?

I know of several people who's periods were affected following the covid vaccines...Hopefully there's something in it that will lead to new treatments for people.

EinsteinaGogo · 26/03/2022 21:16

I'm 54.

3 years post-menopause, not a period since aged 50.

I had 6 periods last year after vaccine 1 and 2 - and periods from hell, they were.

I had various tests to check nothing serious was at play. It wasn't, it was 'just one of those things'.

Hmmmm. I don't think so.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 26/03/2022 21:28

I had regular periods until I had the Pfizer jabs. More pronounced after 2nd jab..NO my periods became quite irregular. Had the moderna booster and they have returned to normal after a couple of months

VioletVesper · 26/03/2022 21:30

I know it’s almost taboo to criticise the vaccines but I really don’t understand why there isn’t more concern about this.

(Glad for you though OP if it will make your IVF easier, good luck Smile )

Mooda · 26/03/2022 21:35

DD18 had a month long period after first vaccine. This was despite being on the pill. It was painful and tiring. She hasn't had the second vaccine - can't face going through all that again with A-Levels approaching. I think it's concerning, would like to better understand (or understand at all) why this happened.

NewtoHolland · 26/03/2022 21:39

Currently holding my baby...who was made as a result of my cycle changing drastically after my second vaccination! Very grateful to the vaccine as I think I'd have let the time slip by if I hadn't had conceived by accident, a positive menstrual side effect for me 😂

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 26/03/2022 21:55

Opposite effect here - always had regular periods except when pregnant. Each vaccine dose (and actual Covid) meant my periods went away. They always came back 3-4 mths later horrifically heavy and painful for a while. Definitely is Covid related as had tests and am not peri (and am only 41) so wouldn’t be surprised if it worked the other way either :)
