Periods returned after vaccinations

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this! For the last 7 years I had had 2x periods. 2 in total. I have severe PCOS and 7 years ago conceived twins via IVF. Prior to the birth I was having a period every 6 - 9 months. Following their birth I had 2 periods (in 7 years) up until I received my first covid vaccination. Following the vaccination I had a period! Since then I have had regular periods, every single month!! I am fully vaccinated and boosted now. I have spoken to 2 other people who I knew through ivf and they are BOTH now having regular periods following vaccination, very similar circumstances to mine. It is absolutely crazy! I've never had regular periods for my entire life so adapting to them is strange but I am so happy. They are completely normal, not heavy and completely regular. We are going to do ivf again this summer and it will be so much easier with regular periods so this is a brilliant and welcome change but I wondered whether anyone knows why this could have happened? Thanks!

I got pregnant (twice) after my jabs having had 3 lots of failed ivf (1 missed miscarriage in 2020) Including the second jab during TWW which led to pregnancy.

Currently 32 weeks. I also agree get trying just in case.

Not the same but a period side effect with the vaccine- after the first one my (regular all my life) periods stopped. Took a fuck load of pregnancy tests as this was the only time that this had ever happened to me before. Then, four months later the and fur periods missed, the second vaccination triggered my period literally that afternoon 😬 really weird. I reported it as a “yellow card” and that service and my GP said it's done mad things go womens periods. Weirdly the booster didn't have any effect but when I had Covid a month or so after the booster, I came on the next day (around a week early) and suffered from severe hot sweats (that felt like postnatal sweats) for around a month. Makes me think that there's is a female-hormonal element to Covid.

Yes I believe it affected mine, first two cycles after mine were crazily long, 37 days (normally 28 ish) they then eventually fell back to near that. They were also incredibly long heavy periods, the first one after my booster I bled solidly for 2 weeks! This cycle was about 31 days in length and the actual period was much more like my normal.

OwlinaTree · 27/03/2022 10:02

Isn't it strange. Mine went really irregular over the 2020 lockdown and I thought it was the start of the change possibly. But when I went back to work properly in sept 2020 they started to go back to normal.

A friend at work had had a terrible time with gyne issues since the booster.

DrinkReprehensibly · 27/03/2022 10:06

I was the same. I had regular periods for 6 months after my firat vaccination after not having them for years due to PCOS. Then after my second vaccination, I bled every day for 3 months straight without breaks and then it just stopped and hasn't returned. All in all, odd, but I've had checks and everything is apparently fine. All down to the vaccinations they think. Had the booster and that didn't have the same effect but it was a different brand.

I don’t have periods and I got them after my vaccinations. Unfortunately mine are stopped for medical reasons (autoimmune) so it wasn’t a pleasant or welcome thing for me and I didn’t get my booster because of it. But im so glad there’s a happy story about it :)

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 27/03/2022 10:14

I had dreadful periods after second two jabs but not the first - I think related to where i was in my cycle at the time of the jab. Then actual covid at the same mid-cycle point which gave the same sort of heaviness.

Caroline Criado-Perez has commented on it in her newsletters as well as the reluctance of anyone to consider collecting data on the effects on women because it's only women and no one ever collects data on women, after all.

I'm also convinced the 3rd Pfizer vaccine "reset" my periods and returned them to their normal state before having a baby. At the point of getting the booster I was 3 years post-partum and suffered shorter, heavier cycles with crippling migraines. I even weaned DD thinking it had something to do with breastfeeding but it still went on for almost a year afterwards. I've had a clockwork cycle since my teens which was fairly long (5 weeks) and meant I had a nice long break between periods which I loved. Since they returned after baby it felt like I'd just get over the tiredness and headaches of one cycle before the next one began.

Long story short, the week I got my 3rd shot was the week I typically feel worst with a lot of headaches. Miraculously, this never happened and my cycle stretched back to the length they've always been before pregnancy. They are also lighter and less painful, which is how they've always been. So I got very lucky...if this was a side effect then I'd happily take a fourth shot.

@NewtoHolland

Currently holding my baby...who was made as a result of my cycle changing drastically after my second vaccination! Very grateful to the vaccine as I think I'd have let the time slip by if I hadn't had conceived by accident, a positive menstrual side effect for me 😂
@NewtoHolland Snap! I don't think my baby would be here if it wasn't for the first vaccine changing my ovulation cycle. A happy accident although it was a bit of a shock at first!

Wow! Thank you for all the replies! Definitely something going on there!

Ive been getting a period every two weeks since the jabs. They are finally returning to normal (had booster in dec) so I won't be having another booster!!

NewtoHolland · 29/03/2022 20:25

Ah lovely! I wonder how many Covid jab babies there are around?

Sarah239 · 29/03/2022 20:29

I think there is some link too, we were TTC and had not had a single positive pregnancy test in 2yrs 3 months (though was having regular monthly periods). Then I had my second covid dose of Pfizer in August 2021, my period came 5 days early a few days afterwards.... and that was the last period I had because I'm now 33 weeks pregnant :) conceived the same month completely unexpectedly! I do feel like the vaccine triggered something with my reproductive system.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/03/2022 20:33

I'd gone 5 months without a period, and thought I was menopausal. Then I had my first jab. Went back to almost as regular as clockwork (one has been 1 week late). Guess I'm only peri (possibly thanks to the jabs)

Theonewiththecandles · 29/03/2022 21:20

I don't have periods on the mini pill, but after each jab I have experienced bleeding when I would usually never have anything, similar with my colleague in her mid 30s. Definitely think there is a link!

Ginkeepsmesane · 29/03/2022 22:07

I know quite a few people that have noted changes to their menstrual cycles following vaccination for covid, me included! I mentioned it to my practise nurse at my coil change, who said she'd heard a few people say the same. Congrats @NewtoHolland for your new arrival!

Wanttobehappy123 · 29/03/2022 22:39

I have a pain in the back of my shoulder and it runs down my breast during certain times of the month, from ovulation onwards. I remember this all starting around
The time of my vaccination.

GettinPiggyWithIt · 29/03/2022 22:45

Hmmm straight into menopause for me i think. I’ve had one period since my booster in November. Before that I was regular all my life. I miss them!
