To think converse high tops are not supportive enough?!

Dd(15) usually wears her doc martens to school...great. I love them.
But lately with the nice weather she has switched to her high top converse. In my mind I'm thinking are they terribly unsupportive for her feet? Is there anything stylish but supportive that I could sway her to?

I've always found converse to be rock-solidly uncomfortable. Narrow and stiff, I can't imagine they're great for growing feet all day long.

Turningpurple · 24/03/2022 18:25

What do you mean supportive? Of her ankles?

sweepeep · 24/03/2022 18:25

@katicomps that's what I'm thinking but she loves them...I'm trying to find an alternative

sweepeep · 24/03/2022 18:26

@Turningpurple of her feet in general I suppose

They're just baseball boots. People have been wearing baseball boots for generations. Teenagers especially!

If you're that worried, add an insole for arch support.

Converse are not supposed to be supportive, or particularly comfortable. They are a fashion item, not a pair of Clark’s.

Sailorsusan · 24/03/2022 18:29

I agree. I have looked fondly at some on people this week but they are too flat and uncomfortable for me. When I was a teenage DM wearer, nice trainers fit the bill in summer. No idea what though.

stimpyyouidiot · 24/03/2022 18:30

I live in converse. Once walked a marathon in them!

Turningpurple · 24/03/2022 18:31

I am genuinely sorry. I am not sure what you expect them to do. They are just fashion shoes.

The only time I have known anyone look for supportive shoes is when they have an issue with their feet, ankles, back etc.

I think they are comfy, that's all I really look for.

WashedupTroll · 24/03/2022 18:31

She is 15 not 5

WhatIsThisPlease · 24/03/2022 18:32

I love mine. I've worn mine all day today for the first time since last summer. But I do agree, they're very flat with no arch support.
I think there are worse shoes DC can wear to be honest, but I do get why you're worried.
Maybe some arch support insoles in them?

Blossomtoes · 24/03/2022 18:35

Why do her feet need support? Feet are designed to function perfectly with nothing on them at all.

Riitt · 24/03/2022 18:36

I wear mine with an insole for arch support, if it bothers her she can easily add them in.

🤣🤣 yes I suppose but I just feel that over my 20's with the ballerina shoe fashion my feet got ruined and now they fall in and I don't want that to happen to her...@WhatIsThisPlease I'll have a look at insoles and see thanks

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 24/03/2022 18:46

I wore Converse happily throughout my twenties....until the day I woke up, put my feet on the floor and screamed in agony.

Vans are slightly better, or just put insoles with arch support in the Converse.

dworky · 24/03/2022 18:58

They're probably better for her feet than 50% of shoes on the market.
Also, she's fifteen, she's old enough to make her own decisions on what she wears and you shouldn't get involved.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 24/03/2022 18:59

I lived in Converse for years and happily wear them all day now when I'm not working.

They're fine, honestly.

sweepeep · 24/03/2022 19:10

@dworky she's in her second year of secondary school it's hardly "step back syndrome let her at it time" if I feel she's ruining her feet I will say it to her. As it stands I haven't said anything to her yet, I'm just thinking on it.

sweepeep · 24/03/2022 19:10

Syndrome?? Wtf

Step back at let her at it time is what that's supposed to say 🤣

I have high arches and Converse make my feet burn. Definitely a fashion item, but realistically, how much is she on her feet every day at school? Probably not enough to do any long-term harm.

CaptainHammer · 24/03/2022 19:27

I used to wear converse all the time but switched to Rocket Dogs and they are 100x comfier!

Regularsizedrudy · 24/03/2022 19:30

Doc martens have fucked up my feet waaaaay more than converse. Try rocket dog, they do converse style but they are more kind of shaped and padded inside

notacooldad · 24/03/2022 19:30

Converse ha e served me well for the last 44 years!
I ho between Nike and Converse for my every day shoes for work.
