To think converse high tops are not supportive enough?!

Dd(15) usually wears her doc martens to school...great. I love them.
But lately with the nice weather she has switched to her high top converse. In my mind I'm thinking are they terribly unsupportive for her feet? Is there anything stylish but supportive that I could sway her to?

I'm a foot HPC... They are absolutely fine unless she actually has some kind of foot or ankle issue

@fairylightsandwaxmelts

I lived in Converse for years and happily wear them all day now when I'm not working.

They're fine, honestly.

Yes, this. I wore converse pretty constantly from about 12-starting work. We didn’t have school uniform! I’ll get them out again now the weather is warmer. I’ve never found them uncomfortable.

I buy the fancy insoles ...only from aldi or lidl when they have them in and then I put new ones into the converses at the beginning of summer. Also seems to save them stinking to high heaven!

It really does make them way more comfortable....walking miles round city pavements in excess heat comfortable!

Converse are fabulous, wear them about 95% of the time, says the 50 year old

Me and DC practically live in converse high tops, they're so comfortable. At 15 she's old enough to decided for herself what she'd like to wear on her feet.

There is a philosophy of footwear saying that you shouldn’t wear overly supportive, high arch, very structured shoes, but instead wear minimalist shoes that allow your foot to be as free as possible. It requires a small change if running technique when running on hard surfaces, but otherwise it’s fine. DH has been wearing minimal footwear for years (think Vivobarefoot etc) and is great, in fact they helped him with his feet problems. I’m not that into it, but the philosophy makes sense to me and I live the feel of Converse. I’ve been wearing them and similar canvas shoes all spring / summer for the last 25 years, and my feet are fine. As for the narrowness, you can lace them as you want. I’d say they’re better than the vast majority of shoes out there, particularly girls’ school shoes which seem to be of the “ballet flats for winter” variety.

They look nice but I find them so uncomfortable

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/03/2022 05:31

They are better than ballerina flats that's for sure, but I personally don't find them comfy, but then I don't find DM's comfy either and it turns out DMs are pretty cheaply constructed boots so really just 'fashion shoes' as well.

I've started putting memory foam insoles in all my shoes, and try to avoid canvas style skate/basketball shoes as imo these are the most uncomfortable.

Had a pair once, and found then uncomfortable, they are just made our of thinnish cloth, there is no padding.

Maybe she would be better off with some simply retro basketball boots? I think Nike do some that are quite minimalist.
