To avoid ever booking with P&O

The sackings were disgusting, but with the event of todays news that the replacement workers are being paid just over £5 per hour I wouldn't give the directors of P&O a penny of my money.
Such diabolical treatment of people.

OP posts:
myyellowcar · 24/03/2022 21:19

Would never book with them now.

Disgusting. The new workers will be on pittance. It must surely be less safe than experienced crews. They won’t be getting any money of mine.

whichiswitch · 24/03/2022 21:25

Travel by ferry often. Will never use p&o

LightSpeeds · 24/03/2022 21:26

No no to P&O.

Unbelievable Fuckers!!

AllOfUsAreDead · 24/03/2022 21:27

@Heatherjayne1972

What else are they doing on the cheap?

I wouldn’t sail with them now I’d be worried safety was compromised

Exactly. Getting on a boat can be dangerous even when done right. Things can go wrong, but if you have the best staff in place, then you should still be safe even in a bad situation.

But they are cutting corners on staff, are they going to not have enough lifeboats next? Are they fixing holes with duct tape?

You're an idiot I think if you go with them again. It's like flying with easyjet after they sack all the pilots and hire dave down the street instead, with the excuse of 'Oh it's all auto pilot, it's fine'. Hmm

seriousandloyal · 24/03/2022 21:27

Agree OP m, disgusting way to treat the workforce so I would boycott for that alone but add to that the consideration that their ships will be sailed by people newly recruited being paid £5.50 an hour and I cannot imagine anyone wanting to even board them.

DGRossetti · 24/03/2022 21:32

He knew the sackings were unlawful.

He carried them out anyway.

What other laws will he break ?

saggyhairyass · 24/03/2022 21:33

I am disgusted by P&O Ferries' CEOs comments today, and how the workers were fired, but he really, to his bones, did not GAF. It's also a concerning move to me, who is considered overpaid and also in a service industry, that I could very well suffer a similar fate if the loopholes are not closed. DH is feeling much the same vibe in his logistics job.

caringcarer · 24/03/2022 21:34

I will never sail with them again. I prefer Brittany ferries anyway.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/03/2022 21:35

I would never sail with them now

Utterly abhorrent - that bloke was a DISGRACE

Hope he catches crabs off a toilet seat

caringcarer · 24/03/2022 21:36

I don't really understand how P&O can get away with paying less than minimum wage in the UK? Government should stop them operating in UK.

NecklessMumster · 24/03/2022 21:40

Stupid question...but I don't understand, if they've broken the law then what are the consequences ? A fine?

beautifullymad · 24/03/2022 21:41

I feel the same OP. We will be avoiding travelling with them going forwards. Disgraceful actions.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 24/03/2022 21:48

Yep said to dh tonight l will never use them again.
They make Ryanair look like a brilliant employer.

StrongerOrWeaker · 24/03/2022 21:49

100% agree with you

slashlover · 24/03/2022 21:50

Why WYBU to not use a company when you disagree with their practices?

user1487194234 · 24/03/2022 21:53

Will never sail with them again

reluctantbrit · 24/03/2022 21:54

They are in the same pot as Ryanair now for me.

DH gets seasick very easily, regardless of the vessel, so we normally don't use ferries. But that's a defnite reason not to book at all.

ButtockUp · 24/03/2022 21:55

I really hope that people on here , including OP , are not confusing P&O Ferries for P&O Cruises .

They are two different companies.

P&O Ferries is ultimately owned by a Dubai based company.

P&O are owned by a British company.

Hope that helps.

ButtockUp · 24/03/2022 21:56

Sorry.. P&O Cruises are owned by a British company.

FirstFormAtMalloryTowers · 24/03/2022 21:59

We live in Germany and cross the channel several times a year. Never ever again will I take P and O.

Jonny1265 · 24/03/2022 22:05

I'll never use them again. Channel tunnel for me this year.

Ellmau · 24/03/2022 22:09

Sorry.. P&O Cruises are owned by a British company.

Aren't they owned by Carnival, based in the US?

PugInTheHouse · 24/03/2022 22:10

@myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses as long as you mean P&O Ferries then 100% yes. P&O Cruises are a completely different company, sadly many people don't seem to realise this.

Mindtheears · 24/03/2022 22:11

I don’t understand why he thought that saying the business was unsustainable was justification. Fine, they can’t run it sustainably on decent wages but other operators clearly can do it would be far better if P&O withdrew from those routes and let others step in, taking on the ships and crews in the process. When train operators have withdrawn or had franchises removed, the Government has just taken over running.

carefullycourageous · 25/03/2022 04:53

It is a good idea to boycott unethical companies, I never use Amazon due to their tax dodging and the way they treat workers.

The government knew in advance of course, and supports fire and rehire practices, they have never tried to stop it. So if you care about workers, boycott the Conservative Party too.
