Went to a colleague’s home as she was holding a make-up party. I thought it would be nice to take a bottle of wine. I didn’t buy anything especially, just picked one of the bottles of red from the two in the kitchen.
Arrive and hand over the wine, she took the bottle, didn’t say thanks, just said in a really disappointed voice “I don’t like red wine” as she took it into her kitchen.
I was slightly shocked and I’m kicking myself for not saying well I’ll keep it then.
AIBU to think she was rude?

Lazylady76 · 24/03/2022 15:52

Rude but maybe stressed or joking, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Kego · 24/03/2022 15:53

Well she was honest and rude. Just don’t bother going again op Smile

Justcallmebebes · 24/03/2022 15:53

I'd have said "well I don't like cheap makeup and MLM crap but I'm being polite and have turned up"

ForeverLooking · 24/03/2022 15:54

A bit rude. I detest red wine and it would end up gathering dust (or shoved in a tombola) but I'd be gracious about the gift.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/03/2022 15:56

Rude! I would of made a point of saying I dont like the brand of makeup shes flogging!

girlmom21 · 24/03/2022 16:00

She was both.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 24/03/2022 16:02

Rude. I don't drink red wine but happy to splash it into casseroles/spag bol/gravy etc.

MurmuratingStarling · 24/03/2022 16:03

100% rude! I'd have taken it back tbh!

Lillyhatesjaz · 24/03/2022 16:04

Really rude. One of our friends gives us a bottle every Christmas we just say thank you as it's a nice thought and I use It when I make Bolognaise

MrsGHarrison87 · 24/03/2022 16:05

Rude.

HollowTalk · 24/03/2022 16:06

I thought that the hosts of those parties were supposed to provide the wine?

SpringSummerAutumnSpring · 24/03/2022 16:06

Rice. It’s a gift, you just take it and pass it on to someone you know who will drink it.

Gilly12345 · 24/03/2022 16:16

She was brutally honest and very rude.

I get given and win bottles of red wine and don’t like red wine so I use it for cooking or regifting.

I definitely wouldn’t say anything.

CrystalCoco · 24/03/2022 16:21

Rude and no need for this level of honesty, she's showing a lack of manners and grace.

DameHelena · 24/03/2022 16:22

Rude, obviously. The correct response is along the lines of 'How thoughtful! Thank you.'
DP and I get given red wine. I don't drink and he's not a wine person, but it's not a problem; we just cook with it or take it to someone's house when we get invited. (no, we've not yet taken a bottle back to the person who gave it to us Grin)

stripeyflowers · 24/03/2022 16:22

Rude!!

worriedatthistime · 24/03/2022 16:22

Rude , honesty is not always the best policyb

CounsellorTroi · 24/03/2022 16:26

Extremely rude.

moonbedazzled · 24/03/2022 16:27

I don't drink but everyone I know prefers red wine so whenever I went to a friend's house, I took a bottle of red each time. We were out somewhere and her husband bought her a white wine spritzer and said she only likes white wine.
I so wish she'd said the very first time, I prefer white wine. It would have saved me the aggravation of thinking and her the aggravation of watching her husband drink the bottle to himself.

ClariceQuiff · 24/03/2022 16:28

Yes, very ungracious. If she was wanting to avoid receiving red wine in the future, she could have said something like,

'Thank you - I'm more of a white wine drinker so I'll open this for everyone to share today.'

OatmilkandCookies · 24/03/2022 16:36

Very rude. She could have kept it for a gift or poured you a glass!

longwayoff · 24/03/2022 17:20

Both. Cheeky cow. Get a new friend.
