Was she honest or rude?

Went to a colleague’s home as she was holding a make-up party. I thought it would be nice to take a bottle of wine. I didn’t buy anything especially, just picked one of the bottles of red from the two in the kitchen.
Arrive and hand over the wine, she took the bottle, didn’t say thanks, just said in a really disappointed voice “I don’t like red wine” as she took it into her kitchen.
I was slightly shocked and I’m kicking myself for not saying well I’ll keep it then.
AIBU to think she was rude?

Sexnotgender · 24/03/2022 20:31

Incredibly rude, hope you didn’t buy anything from her.

Ohyesiam · 24/03/2022 20:35

She was rude, honest, lacking in social skills, and I expect, stressed.

DramaAlpaca · 24/03/2022 20:36

Very bad manners.

Leeds2 · 24/03/2022 20:36

Both rude and honest!

When I take a bottle to something like that, any drinks contributions or chocolates are usually opened for everyone at the event to share.

Startuplife · 24/03/2022 20:37

So rude! DP is self employed and for some reason always gets given red wine by clients. We just put it in the cupboard and regift it. Means I never have to spend any money when we go to dinner parties 🙈

Claricestarling1 · 24/03/2022 20:38

Extremely rude

ThreeRingCircus · 24/03/2022 20:41

Shockingly bad manners. I'm the opposite and really like red wine but don't like white. If anyone gives me a bottle of white wine I say "thank you very much" then I re-gift it when I'm next going to a party. I can't imagine how tone deaf and rude you must be to say what she said to you.

dayswithaY · 24/03/2022 20:45

Rude, I would have found it and stuffed it back in my handbag.

Crimeismymiddlename · 24/03/2022 20:58

Extremely rude, I hope you did not buy anything.

Onlyhuman123 · 24/03/2022 21:13

@Justcallmebebes

I'd have said "well I don't like cheap makeup and MLM crap but I'm being polite and have turned up"
🤣🤣
AllOfUsAreDead · 24/03/2022 21:15

Extremely rude. I don't drink at all, but say thank you anyway if someone gets me a bottle of wine or champagne or whatever. Then just hand it to my partner in private. Grin

WorriedMillie · 24/03/2022 21:18

Bloody rude, I hate this “rudeness, dressed up as honesty” crap, you deserve better, OP and she doesn’t deserve friends/colleagues like you Flowers

twoshedsjackson · 24/03/2022 21:26

When I was still teaching, I was regularly given bottles of alcohol by kindly parents who were unaware that I didn't drink. I always appreciated thought behind the gesture, and passed on when appropriate.
In those circumstances, I'd have probably replied "More for those who do like red, then!" (and refused, very politely, to buy any makeup!)
If she wants to make a profit from entertaining visitors, she'll need to learn fast that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar!

AnnaSW1 · 24/03/2022 21:30

Yeah that's rude.
