That’s crazy!

dementedpixie · 23/03/2022 10:29

Is that a fixed rate offer?
Go on the standard variable rate instead

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 23/03/2022 10:31

Grin mine have just quoted me £650. I have laughed in their faces. I use nowhere near what they’re suggesting I use.

Watchkeys · 23/03/2022 10:38

Is it based on an estimate? I think they're trying to fill their coffers by over estimating. Lots of people will just suck it up and pay over the odds without realising its an estimate.

MaizeAmaze · 23/03/2022 10:39

That is crazy high. Is that on the standard rate?
Are you kowingly heavy users or is there scope to cut back?

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 23/03/2022 10:41

A friend had just tried to fix and was quoted just over £1900 per month, for a 5 bedroomed house 😱

RagzRebooted · 23/03/2022 10:41

I don't understand how it was over £300 for 2 people before, never mind that increase! Definitely something wrong there, check their estimate of your usage and make sure it's not an inflated fixed rate.

Chely · 23/03/2022 10:42

And here's me being pissed off that ours are up to £160 a month now (household of 8, smart meter).

lljkk · 23/03/2022 10:44

Ours is now like £85 for 4 people, having been £45 or so last year (per month).
Doubling I can believe.
How did you routinely get £323/month before?

FluffEverywhere · 23/03/2022 10:47

We've just switched to Octopus at £92 per month for electricity, with British Gas for Gas, we pay that quarterly, winter bill was £384..

We switched because OVO charged us £717 for 2 months electric (pay on receipt of bill), after SSE switched us to them when they were taken over..

Do you submit regualr readinga/can you get a quote based on actual usage?

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2022 10:47

Yes, what on earth were you doing with £323 worth of energy before?

Maybe need to turn off the Bitcoin mine or put up the prices of the weed that you're growing to compensate?

But seriously, what is your annual usage and what size house are you in? You must be using at least twice the national average to have a bill that high, so whether you can afford it or not, there must be ways you could cut down.

dementedpixie · 23/03/2022 10:47

Last month we used about £170 of gas/electricity on the current standard variable rate. I have been offered outrageous fixed rates so I am staying on the SVR.

AllOfUsAreDead · 23/03/2022 10:47

How were you using £323 a month before?! Is your heating on 24/7?

Halllyup17 · 23/03/2022 10:50

5 bed detached, 5 kids, husband works from home, devices on all the time, heating on during the day at 18, use the dryer for multiple loads a week etc, and the fix I was offered was about £450. Currently pay about £200, although will increase to around £350 on standard variable.

How you're getting £760, I have no idea.

User56436674 · 23/03/2022 10:54

That's absolutely crazy!! I've got a 4 bed semi with shit insulation so we have the heating on a lot in winter. 3 kids, lots of devices on, tumble dryer on a lot in winter. Ours is 170 a month (not sure what it's going up to but it won't be 750!)

EmpressSuiko · 23/03/2022 10:54

Do you live in a mansion!?

HopefulProcrastinator · 23/03/2022 10:58

Do you have a hot tub?! Even £350 a month is exceptionally high for two people.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/03/2022 11:02

Don't fix. Fixed rates are about 40% higher than a standard variable rate, which is protected by the price cap.

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 23/03/2022 11:02

what on earth were you doing with £323 worth of energy before?

That’s what I’m wondering. 3 adults here & it was £80

girlmom21 · 23/03/2022 11:04

How big is your house?!

HoldenCaulfieldismyhomeboy · 23/03/2022 11:07

3 bed semi. 3 people in house. Gone up to £160. I can't afford that. Paying less as I'm with octopus so can set it to what I want. Was paying £75. I will end up in debt with them but I have rent to pay. Single mum so struggling.

Horst · 23/03/2022 11:10

I thought we where high usage at a combined of £180. So far they haven’t given us a higher dd yet.

Horst · 23/03/2022 11:11

That’s a three bed, two adults and 3 children and what feels like a zoo of animals requiring electric.

DaisyDeli · 23/03/2022 11:12

Bonkers!!

Are you supplying to the whole street ?

2 of us in a 3 bed semi. Less than £100 combined.

Ifeellikedancing · 23/03/2022 11:15

How on earth can you possibly be using that much energy? We live in a draughty nightmare or a granite 4 bed house. DP works from home so heating on all the time. We are £150 per month, going up to £210. I cannot fathom how you could possibly use double what we do.
