Too much crap in handbag - bloody heavy!

Ok so in my handbag I currently have
Work phone
My phone
Keys
Work pass
Work keys
Numerous epipens (at least two)
Numerous antihistamines (life needed can not be without)
Letter for emergency contact for epipens
Letter for a and e
Tissues
San pro
Charger for both phones
Diary
Basic first aid stuff for kids inhalers etc

Just realised how bloody heavy it is.

Seriously contemplating having a handbag on the back of my chair Monday to Friday and having duplicates of epipens etc in the car and then a small bag - which would just be the two phone, diary, purse which goes from work to car!!

Seriously how do people manage - I used to have phone and keys (?) what has happened to me?

Get yourself a nice backpack. Kerikit does lovely ones that look professional and smart!

eldora · 21/03/2022 22:07

Get a backpack. You need to distribute the weight evenly across your back and shoulders. You’re setting yourself up with back issues if you don’t.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/03/2022 22:11

I massively downsized in the pandemic, but while I have quite different things to you, I still have a lot in mine:

Cardholder
Folding brush with mirror
Tissues
Face masks (Scotland so still mandatory)
Fold up shopper bag
Beanie hat
Umbrella
Lipstick
AirPods case

I carry my keys and phone in my pockets.

On in-work days I have a tote bag on top which has:

Laptop
Charger for laptop
Work ID
Pencil case with whiteboard pens
Diary

I keep a spare phone charger at my work desk, also stuff like face powder, deodorant etc.

purpledagger · 21/03/2022 22:19

Get duplicate chargers for your phones, lap top, tablets etc and keep a set at home snd one at work.

When I commuted to Central London, I would have my handbag with all of my bits (purse, keys etc) and a second bag for umbrella, lunch and anything else I needed to cart to and from work. At weekends, I wouldn't need my second bag.

With the medical kit, agree with your suggestion about keeping a set at work and in your car. Put it all in a bag that you can just grab and go.

Honestly OP, you'd never be a girl scout.

Where's the purse, deodorant, nail file, makeup, bag hook, compact mirror, bottle of water, numerous bags for life, sanitiser, pack of ibuprofen, random unidentified boiled sweets?

Shuuu · 21/03/2022 22:28

I’m the same, when I get a new bag I take the essentials out & bin the whole bag Grin

Chishnfips · 21/03/2022 22:32

You've got 2 phones what do you need a diary for?

Coulddowithanap · 21/03/2022 23:33

Definitely get a backpack.

Happymiraclemorning · 21/03/2022 23:41

I have a black leather backpack
I carry

Purse
Keys
Phone
Sunglasses
Pen
Hand sanitizer
Hand cream
Lip balm
Lense wipes
Tampon
Pain killers

TheChurchOfEli · 21/03/2022 23:49

Might just be me but that doesn’t seem that heavy, a few phones, some keys, a few pills and some paper? Definitely agree with a rucksack though.

LondonQueen · 21/03/2022 23:57

My day to day bag is always full and heavy, it's a Louis Vuitton Neverfull, in it I have:
• Phone
• Work phone
• Purse
• Car key (keyless car so I only take it out to put it in another bag) and house keys, must admit my house keys are rather large and bulky, includes my gate opener and an array of key rings.
• Laptpp (Macbook Air so not too heavy, still weighs it down)
• A snack or two, usually nuts or something similar
• Painkillers and Antihistamines (recently I suffering from migraines and hay fever is in overdrive this year)
• Tissues
• AirPods
• Power bank and iPhone charger (does both phones)
• A pencil case
• A small makeup bag
• Sunglasses
• Sanitary Products
• Hand sanitiser
It weights a ton but I stick to a smaller, more stylish Gucci bag on the weekends (DH bought me it for Christmas as I used to carry the heavy one everywhere!) , which fits just my phone, purse, car key and house keys in. It's bliss.

moonbedazzled · 21/03/2022 23:59

Don't you have a purse? Or do you use your phone? I seem to collect coins and it weighs a ton on its own. I have to have a bag I can wear across my body to load out the weight evenly.

Kite22 · 22/03/2022 00:08

Put all your things like work pass, work keys, work phone into your work bag. Get a little pull along one if you feel you are needing to carry all that.

You do seem to be missing a lot from your handbag though, that I feel are fairly typical to carry in a handbag if you are carrying one - not least, your purse !

Blossom64265 · 22/03/2022 00:15

I spent time streamlining my epipens, antihistamines, and medical details. My antihistamines are on tiny, lightweight containers, my medical details have been copied and formatted onto cards that nest nicely with the epipens, and the epipens are in a lightweight heat cooler pouch that is just big enough to hold them, but that is bright red and covered in medical crosses so easy to spot.

Keys I got down to the bare minimum and got a valet style keychain with easy on and off so if I know I won’t need some and it is a long day out, I can pop some off.

Wallet I went through and was vicious. Then I picked one that was lightweight. Ounces matter. Coins are banned except for specific outings.

Replace the phone chargers with a rechargeable battery. Spring for the lightest weight one you can afford.

Nat6999 · 22/03/2022 00:28

I have a Radley cross body bag that has my
purse
phone
house & car keys
Mini pack of baby wipes
Painkillers
Lip balm
Vape mod & tank

The heaviest thing is my vape mod that weighs maybe150g, I never carry cash, just cards.

camelfinger · 22/03/2022 00:44

Is it your bag that’s heavy, even when it’s empty? Sometimes the leather ones weigh a ton with nothing in.
My suggestions are to consider using your phone instead of a diary and, if you use a computer at work, just take the usb charging cable rather than the whole plug for charging. Do you have any heavy key rings? I have stripped down my keys to just one house key, and sometimes don’t take that if I know someone’s at home.

feeona123 · 22/03/2022 00:45

Mines the same…I have 4 purses! Blush

Prettynails · 22/03/2022 18:03

I packed my handbag full and now leave it on the back of my office chair.

Work bag is fine I have to have stuff and I’ve halved it!!

I e duplicated it even tripled everything home, car, work.

I have a space in workbag for purse phone and keys and diary!

I don’t carry a hand bag. I bring my phone which has my bank cards and that’s is it. I feel woefully ill prepared.

Svara · 22/03/2022 20:55

I have phone, keys, work key fob, string bag.
I often go out without a bag though, phone (with debit card) and keys in pocket.

LaWench · 22/03/2022 21:00

I minimised my handbag as I was lugging around way too much. I have a tiny cross body bag and usually carry small wallet, keys, tissues, pen, phone, lipbalm, sanitiser and mask.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/03/2022 21:03

I detest carrying handbags. They annoy me. I keep my bank cards in my phone case and my car keys in my pocket. That's it.

If I go out for the evening, I carry a small bag that goes over my shoulder and across my body, which might have a lippy and phone in.

dudsville · 22/03/2022 21:07

I've downsized to a tiny little thing. Just sunglasses, keys, lip balm, tissues, spare mask, phones, it has slots for cards - I carry two, and a hand cream. It would fit two inhalers and epi pens too. I raised early on that I couldn't be carrying my laptop and paper docs back and forth and work accommodated this. Made a big difference.
