To Hate Eating Competitions?

They are so wrong! Apart from anything else, it’s obscene for people to shovel down vast amounts of food to win a prize when there are so many starving in the world. Plus it’s bad for you physically.

Eh?! 🤔

Whataroyalannoyance · 19/03/2022 18:57

Then don't enter them

Blimecory · 19/03/2022 18:57

What’s an eating competition?

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/03/2022 19:05

Several pubs, cafes etc in Facebook offer a prize if you can eat vast amounts of food in a very short time. Maybe I should have said an eating race

On not in

I hear you OP, My DH sometimes has them on youtube and is in awe of what the people are scoffing. It knocks me sick!

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/03/2022 19:07

*whataroyalannoyance of course I don’t enter them! That’s not the point. I don’t believe they should exist in the first place!

How often are you seeing these to get riled about it? Think I’ve seen this in reality (eg not on tv) about twice in my life, both times at uni when it was a freshers’ week nonsense thing.

D0lphine · 19/03/2022 19:09

Yes absolutely vile. My brother watches them sometimes.

There is one woman on YouTube who very clearly has an eating disorder. Sad really.

AlwaysLatte · 19/03/2022 19:10

I completely agree! I've seen some disgusting displays on tv. Often full of meat and very fatty foods 🤮

They have always been obscene. Speed eating's just as bad. I remember a TV play several years ago called On the road to Eldorado. One of the 'contestants' was so intent on winning - just one more mouthful....and he exploded!! Lovely. When there are so many in the world starving and/or in food poverty it shows a distinct lack of judgement/moral fibre.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/03/2022 19:14

Traumdeuter I see them often on Facebook.

I’ve never seen one personally, but I know they happen and I agree with OP, find it revolting.
SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/03/2022 19:20

Traumdeuter they are often on Facebook

I agree, as someone who previously suffered from bulimia they always have a weird binge vibe, and often the competitors are skinny and attractive so I find myself assuming (rightly or wrongly) that many of them also purge.

IncompleteSenten · 19/03/2022 19:30

It can't be good for you and I'm surprised people don't choke all the time. The speed of it just seems really dangerous

Dentistlakes · 19/03/2022 19:32

I agree, it’s revolting. I’m always amazed how slim some of the competitors are. It makes you wonder how long they are actually keeping the food down.

tomsellecksloverug · 19/03/2022 19:33

Absolutely disgusting. I also hated that Man V Food show. My DH used to watch it. Vile.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2022 19:36

There's a local place that does a ginormous breakfast and you can get a prize if you eat it all. It;'s just so unnecessary and I'm not sure anyone has actually managed it anyway.

I can't watch either.

RampantIvy · 19/03/2022 19:37

Wow! I'm surprised that 29% of voters think you are unreasonable Hmm

IMO eating competitions are gross and in bad taste.

GarlandsinGreece · 19/03/2022 19:42

Amen. I abhor gluttony and think it’s vile to eat 27 hot dogs in a row or whatever.
