Organising, labelling & cleaning business

lookingforopinions10 · 07/03/2022 19:04

Hi mums netters,

I am aware this doesn't belong in AIBU, but I feel I will get many more responses...

I am looking to start a new venture. I love & enjoy organising my home.

Cupboards, kitchen drawers/units, children's toys, fridges and every day deep cleaning.

I have three children under the age of 5 & it gives me some sort of control staying organised.

I am looking to start a new business solely organising and helping de clutter people's homes.

So my question to you all, is this something you think will be successful, something people would be interested in - would you?

I will provide all containers/turn tables/hooks & labelling etc at an extra cost.

I will attach example pictures ( not my own work ) I don't want to be outing.

Thank you for any advice Smile

Not for me. I'd like to have less stuff, not more - jars, containers, shelves, labels etc. All so much more faff and so much more to keep organised and feel guilty about if it slips.

You are a rare person to care so much about that sort of stuff and also parent 3 children under 5. I'm not sure there are too many like-minded souls out there!

gindreams · 07/03/2022 20:31

I would hire you !
I need help decluttering

lookingforopinions10 · 07/03/2022 20:31

I have been thinking about this for a while. I love helping and working alongside people.
I will offer a service in which I work alongside the client offering advice and helping/doing the decluttering as we go.
I can't possibly know what clients want to discard off and keep but working alongside them I can achieve there goals.

There might be a small market for it, but... I love an organised house but I'm very disorganised. But I wouldn't pay for your services because I find my main problem is the ongoing upkeep, not the initial decluttering and sorting. No matter how many labelled boxes I've got, my stuff still ends up thrown randomly on shelves. And I see no point in paying for a regular decluttering if I have to work with you on it, I'd be more efficient by myself.

lookingforopinions10 · 07/03/2022 21:01

I know from my own experience, once I have organised everything & it has a home ( whether that be boxed and labelled or put away neatly in the same spot ) cleaning in general takes 10 minutes compared to before of up to an hour as everything has its place. Makes my life so much easier & I would love to help others

I personally like labels as everything then has a home. It's so much easier to organise & tidy.

Anything that doesn't have a home ( especially in the children's bedrooms ) is boxed into what I call odd bits and bobs!

It's still boxed in a single large tidy container & put away.

Very interesting opinions & some great support so thank you! Smile

1224boom · 07/03/2022 22:31

Omg I didnt realise people did this I would defo pay someone to declutter my house.

TatianaBis · 07/03/2022 22:37

@LadyinRead

My home is in dire need of decluttering. But how could you (or anyone other than me) do it? Clothes–how would you know which ones I like/fit, which ones I wear regularly and which ones I wear once a year? Papers–how would you know which items from this particular mountain to discard and which to keep? Kitchen–which tin opener works best? Which are my favourite plates and glasses etc? You can apply the same thinking to just about any category of item that needs organising. The difficult part of the job is deciding what to keep and what to discard, and only I can do that. Cute labels and boxes aren't required.
Well you do it together.

Eg go through all your clothes - work out what you wear a lot, what you wear sometimes, and what you don't wear at all. Filter the stuff you don't wear into what can be coordinated with existing stuff and used, and what can be chucked.

Ditto kitchen.

Papers - look at the extent of them - and figure out what storage solutions you need to keep them filed and tidy. Then you sort through what needs to be kept and filed and what can be chucked.

@lookingforopinions10

I will be looking to charge £15 an hour for deep cleaning/general cleaning.

Price depends on what needs organising ( how big the job is etc ) & if they need me to provide the containers & labels etc

Which side of Kent are you? Please PM me !
mintich · 07/03/2022 23:22

Definitely a market for it. 2 of my friends had the style sisters come round to their houses to organise.

ronjobbins · 07/03/2022 23:25

Sounds brilliant OP I would love this service and happily pay £15.00 per hour Flowers

frustratedashell · 07/03/2022 23:25

My business started off quite well, gone quiet since mid December. I'm in Mid Sussex if anyone is interested. I love doing it, it's very rewarding. My clients are always thrilled with the result.

It's no exaggeration to say it can change your life!

Loginmystery · 07/03/2022 23:32

I’d pay you for this service. It’s a good idea.

Crankley · 07/03/2022 23:52

I have zero interest in labelled boxes and jars. I have 2 large storage areas which need sorting out but there's no way I would pay a stranger to do it. While I am telling you what/what not to sort out, I can do it myself.

I watched a Kondo video once and thought it was ridiculous.

Hope there aren't too many like me and you get a successful business going.

IJoinedJustForThisThread · 07/03/2022 23:59

I’d pay for someone to declutter my house and organise me. My house isn’t dirty but it is untidy and cluttered. I still have a teenager’s bedroom. Well, actually I have a teenager’s house!
I don’t object to labels, but I hate the font of the labels in those photos!

Dinoteeth · 08/03/2022 00:08

Decluttering needs the householders input so not something I'd pay someone to do - where do you want this put, whats that for.

However I would love someone to sort kids toys for me particularly lego!

ilovesooty · 08/03/2022 00:27

I think there is a market for it if you're trained by APDO.

PikachuAndMe · 08/03/2022 00:41

I'm in West London and think £15 an hour is bargain and very cheap. I would definitely hire you (I would expect to pay more though). When our renovation work is complete later this year I am planning on getting a declutter and organiser to help me. If they were able to offer a weekly cleaning service with ongoing tidying and decluttering I would be overjoyed.

I am ND and really struggle with exectutive dysfunction and day to day house stuff so someone that would get the house organised and keep it organised is the dream.

lookingforopinions10 · 08/03/2022 07:02

Good morning!

Thank you everyone for your input I will take some time today to read them individually and reply.

I have one child in school & two pre school age.

My question to you all ( those who would be interested ) would evening work and weekends be something you would book me for?

I would be happy to have a consultation before starting so we can discuss everything that you needed doing.
You can give me a idea of what's staying and what we are decluttering?
What type of jars/boxes/containers you would like?
Whether you will source these or you would want me too? Or you can work alongside me Smile

Just out of interest as a busy mum of three the only time I have available would be evenings and weekends. Some input on these hours would be great? Would you be interested if I could only work these hours?

Il get the school run & food shop out the way & reply to those who has messaged me with interest Smile

Have a lovely day! X

Good morning,

Thank you for your message Smile support & guidance would be great for me as I am only just starting out so thank you. Are you happy for me to message you when I think of any questions. Will most likely be in the evenings when the children are asleep. Have a lovely day

@stevalnamechanger thank you for your interest Smile I didn't want to start my busy day without replying.

I have tried to PM you but won't allow me for some reason, would you be happy to drop me a message with your location & a brief idea of what you would be looking for? I would be happy to help

Look forward to hearing from you

For this sort of service you would need a wealthier demography, most people don't have £15ph to stand there and tell you what to get rid of. IME the type of people to have labels on every jar are definitely not the wealthier type, they just go to B&M and buy them. I wouldn't make the labelling a USP of the business, and I would have a variety of fonts to choose from too.

lookingforopinions10 · 08/03/2022 07:39

If anyone can advice me how to message an individual privately that would be great?

@stevalnamechanger sorry I don't expect you to share your personal information here, I wasn't sure how a quote worked on Mums net. Can anyone point me in the right direction Smile

OP click on the 3 dots in the bottom right of the post, an option should come up for PM. Some posters may have disabled this option though.

CowsAreNotGreen · 08/03/2022 08:01

I'd pay for someone to come and organise my kitchen once. I don't want fancy labels and I'm not looking for something Instagramable. It would only get messed up again. I would hate my fridge looking like that, looks like it's for display purposes and I never get that much food in at once! But yes I would pay for a one off organisation of my kitchen.
